Can Multimedia Help the Book Business?
July 13, 2009 11:26 AM
As the book business struggles to adjust to the digital age, some publishers are testing multimedia books and Web sites for popular authors, Daisy Whitney reports in this week's “New Media Minute.”
St. Martin's just released the multimedia book "Personal Effects: Dark Art" by JC Hutchins and a multimedia site for Alyson Noel's hit young adult series "The Immortals." Penguin and Simon & Schuster are also testing new media efforts.
You'll also get a chance to win Whitney’s copy of "Personal Effects."

I'm buying as many books as possible for my Kindle. Paper books take up too much room, they're too cumbersome to move, and they're subject to wear and tear. Digital makes the most sense.

I would like to state that I am tired of commercials that blast out at an unreasonable volume.
Therefore, I am boycotting any and all products, services and companies whose commercials are broadcast at a ridiculously loud volume. I will continue to mute the volume on your commercials and if you want my business you should turn the volume down to the point where I won't turn it off.
I believe that the method of measuring the peak volume of sound verses the subjective loudness is flawed. A momentary loud sound in a TV show is far different than a full commercial where the sound is at that same peak level for the entire commercial. I hope anyone who reads this will take it seriously knowing that I am far from the only person tired of wearing out my remotes volume buttons!
