Wednesday Playlist: Melvins, Mars, Michael and more

July 01, 2009 11:16 AM

This week's Wednesday playlist comes courtesy Brian Wheeler, researcher for World News with Charles Gibson. We've got some rock and roll, some new school blues, a jug band from hell and, of course, Michael Jackson.

THE MELVINS - The Kicking Machine
They've been in the game for a long time and they've still got it.

MONOTONIX - Summers and Autumns
From Tel Aviv. Tons of energy. The drummer lights his cymbals on fire. Can't ask for more than that.

THE MARS VOLTA - Cotopaxi
This is my favorite song off their new album. They can be an acquired taste, but the new stuff is easily digested.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART - Grown So Ugly
A cover of a Robert Peter Williams song. Growling blues, very cool.

O'DEATH - Ratscars
If your great, great, great, great-grandfather fought for the Confederacy and worshipped the devil, this could have been his favorite band. They rule.

ENTRANCE - Grim Reaper Blues
Far-out blues from this California-by-way-of-Baltimore band. They've got a new album out this summer.

TV ON THE RADIO - DLS
Still the best NYC band arond.

MICHAEL JACKSON - Burn This Disco Out
The King is dead. Long live the King.
