John R. Parkinson reports and produces from the White House for ABC News. He is a regular contributor to ABCNews.com and the ABC News Radio network, shoots video of many of his own broadcast interviews, and works closely with chief White House correspondent Jonathan Karl on the network's political coverage.

Since moving to the network’s White House coverage in June 2015, Parkinson has reported daily from ABC News' small work space in the West Wing. He has traveled throughout the country covering President Obama, as well as the president’s trip to Asia in November 2015.

Prior to his current assignment, Parkinson covered Congress for five years, reporting daily from the U.S. Capitol on the Republican and Democratic leadership, committee hearings and legislative business considered by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. His assignment on Capitol Hill began in July 2010, just before the historic congressional midterm elections. He has contributed to the network’s coverage through seven national elections, including the Second Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama and the Republican National Convention in Tampa in 2012.

Parkinson has worked at ABC News since July 2004, employed previously as an associate producer in the Washington bureau for more than three years, producing for Good Morning America and World News Tonight. He started his career as a freelance desk assistant before joining the staff full-time as a production assistant.

Parkinson is an active member of the White House Correspondents’ Association and the 2016 chairman of the Radio-Television Correspondents’ Association. A native of Baraboo, Wisconsin, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004 from the University of Wisconsin, double majoring in Journalism & Mass Communication and Political Science. He lives with his wife, Sally, in Arlington, Virginia.
