UT Students Drawn to "Super Size Me" Filmmaker
September 19, 2008 5:57 PM
ABC News On Campus reporter Chelsey Delaney blogs:
The University of Texas might be a party school, but massive beer consumption does not prevent Austin from keeping its rank as the nation's 10th healthiest city. It's quite a stretch considering that Houston and Dallas, which are barely three hours away, are ranked in the 40s.
The health trend supporting that rank hit a new level this week when the UT Student Events Center announced that Morgan Spurlock, creator of "Super Size Me" and the new hit show "30 Days," would be speaking next Thursday as part of a lecture series.
The ballroom where speakers such as Spurlock give their lectures holds up to 900 people; 800 tickets were given away in a little more than 24 hours.
Student Event Center coordinator Andrew Segovia said that the center usually gives out 1,500 tickets because, typically, only 70 percent of ticket-holders show up. Tickets are free for students and faculty, and one person can receive up to two tickets.
Only 350 people are left with a chance to get in, and Segovia said students have been coming in hordes. The Student Event Center plans to show "Super Size Me" Tuesday night to rev up the talk and to give out prizes that include promotional goodies for local vegetarian eateries. Austin also holds the rank of 8th vegetarian-friendliest city in the U.S., according to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Sperling's Best Places Web site gave Austin the No.10 ranking.
As a vegetarian myself, the temptation of free health-conscious food and the idea of an environment where others would rather fast than eat fast food, well … count me in.

Hmm..wasn't there a study just released that a veggie only diet caused shrinkage of the brain?
Hmm...economic troubles, middle east trouble, an election, etc., etc. and you waste space discussing sprout eaters?

Studies have also shown a more successful economy if everyone were vegetarian.
