Syracuse Students Join Rally for Gay Marriage

Bravo for them! It is time we quit letting religion override our Constitution!!

Nobody is stopping anybody from being with anybody.

The law doesn't stop any man who claims to be homosexual from marrying a woman who says that she is homosexual.

In University of California v Bakke, SCOTUS says that groups have no Rights, that only persons/individuals do.

Thus, the law that defines "marriage" as the union of a "man" and a "woman" does not discriminate since all those who claim to be homosexual are either men, or women.

The law says that two of the same sex may not marry each other. However, that goes for EVERYBODY, not just those who say they are homosexual. Therefore, again, no discrimination.

Men who claim to be homosexual may marry women who claim to be homosexual. So, what you call "gay marriage" was not denied.

its simply unconstitutional to deny equal rights to law abiding citizens... if homophobes dont want gays on the alter of their church, that is one thing, but a marriage license is issued by the government and the government has no obligation to religitards, but they do have an obligation to uphold the constitution and not discriminate... but fear not, eventually gays will be recognized as fellow human beings because society is shifting, however slowly...

I think it's sad that certain groups, who can't help the way that they were born, are not allowed the right (rite) of marriage. Would we ban physically disabled people from marriage? How about people who are mentally disabled or ill? Gay marriage doesn't affect heterosexual people - so why the backlash against it? Keep religion out of it. This is not a religious issue. It's a human rights issue. Banning gay marriage is no more right than banning two schizophrenics or two redheads from being able to marry. These are biological conditions - so why is one being punished? It's no skin off anyone's nose if a gay couple wants to get married. No church will be "forced" to act against its tenets. Gay couples will only be married in those institutions that will perform it. I know plenty of heterosexual couples who have been denied Catholic, Mormon or Jewish marriage ceremonies because they don't meet the criteria, and there's no law of the land that forces churches to perform marriages that don't meet their standards. So - what are people so afraid of?

People who deny the right of gay couples to marry are morally the same as people who tried to keep women and black people from voting and enjoying their full civil rights.

Bigotry is bigotry, and history is against the people who voted for Proposition 8.

Mr. Incredible, you are, indeed, incredible, or, rather, UNcredible. What skin is off YOUR nose if two men wish to marry each other legally, or two women wish to marry each other legally? We hear of more spousal abuse ocurring in heterosexual marriages than among gays or Lesbians in long-term committed relationships; those who CHOOSE to bring children into their lives by whatever means available are known to provide loving, welcoming homes to those children -- I've never heard anything about child abuse being imposed upon those children, but I've heard plenty about child abuse occurring to children born of hetero-sexuals. As for "morals", I don't believe it's any less moral for two people of the same gender to commit to each other than for so many people in heterosexual unions who serially cheat on their spouses. Whatever religion a person subscribes to is a matter of faith and the relationship each person has with the Higher Power he/she believes in. I'm straight, but I sincerely believe that gays and Lesbians made no choice in their sexual orientation; they were born the way they are.

There are two aspects to the word "marriage." The secular and the spiritual.

The secular aspect is the legal contract authorized by the state in which certain legal privileges and protections are available to couples meeting the requirements. The requirements currently are that the couple be one male and one female, of or beyond a certain age who have completed the required documents and filed those documents with the appropriate office.

The state has always regulated legal contracts and placed restrictions on them...including who may and who may not enter into one.

The spiritual aspects are whatever the couple want to make them...a ritual, swearing an oath, reading a poem, whatever they choose.

If the state offers the same and equal legal privileges and protections through a contract of a different name (like "civil union")for same-sex couples, the rational course of action would be to enter into that contract with one's partner in the belief that such partnerships will, over time, become a non-issue.

The irrational course of action is to demand that the majority abandon deeply held convictions and beliefs in order to have the word "marriage" appear on the contract.

If you are against Gay Marriage is because you must be in the closet, such an insecure human being!!! Morality? Oh let me think about that one, like priest and pastors and mormons sleeping with 13 year old children. Hmm!! morality!! Or how about this one, parents (straight ones) dropping their kids like flies in Nebraska! Oh yes that is very Moral and Christian!
