We're Dreaming of a Cheap Christmas
December 23, 2008 9:26 AM
ABC News on Campus reporter Carly Swain blogs:
After studying for finals for weeks (or 36 hours straight), you start packing your suitcase to head home for Winter Break and find yourself in quite a predicament.
You’re going home for the holidays… where people will be giving you gifts… and you will be giving them what?
After a quick glance at your planner, you realize that under all the highlighted, asterisked, and Post-it covered pages, you’ve forgotten to pencil in time for gift shopping! Not to worry—ABC News On Campus has you covered.
Check out some of the ideas below that you can still get away with, because after all, you are but a poor college student.
The free gift you got for opening a student checking account
The letter you got notifying your parents you received a $300 scholarship
The t-shirt you got for free at the first home game—you only wore it once anyways
Half dozen cafeteria cookies
The keychain bottle opener from the move-in packet at your dorm
The philosophy text book you never read—but wrote a great paper on
Paint your empty beer cans and beverage bottles you’ve been saving—they make great vases or candle holders
The unopened pack of computer printer paper—you can print for free at the library
Blow up a picture of your Student ID card—Grandma is so proud you made it into college
A blinged-out pizza box makes a nice jewelry box!
Now, if you seriously doubt you can get away with any of these gifts, just remind yourself—you’ve probably been getting away with a whole lot more this semester. This is actually like a capstone project for the Fall.

Baking is another way to show christmas spirit.
But if you are not a baker get the already made dough and pop them in the oven and give them out as gifts.
The dollar tree and the family dollar has tins for a buck use them also get small things leave the exspensive gifts for another time get for who is close to you like your spouce and the kids.
do not worry about the rest of the family a good word and a card from the store is all that they need.
worse comes to worse and you can not afford presents get help from chataties and if that does not work for ya go to k mart and do layaway.
Since wal mart has no layaway it is better then not having christmas at all cheap is better tinker toys from the dollar store is good kids play with it in a few weeks it.
Can be replaced with better toys when you get your income tax then splurge but other wise a cheap christmas is a good christmas think of the possiblities christmas may seem stressfull but it isn't . instead of wrapping get gift bags and get tissue paper at the dollar store it is easy and do not have to get tape all over or run out of christmas paper .
think of the cheap and think of a alot .
Most things that are exspensive are material things the love you share with other will last a life time.
Things you buy do not need to be exspensive think pratical. instead of getting things that are exspensive get things on sale the meaning of christmas to a child is presents the cost of it doesn't matter to them it is the thought that sana came to town with presents for them is all they want .
for smaller kids the pretty wrapping is amuzing to them the thought behind the gift is the idea that simple things they can play with like games and dolls or race cars for kids they do not need the exspensive gifts to make them happy the cheap toys can do the same as the exspensive toys to.
buy more spend less or get a chatatie to help ya the cheap christmas can be a good one you have to set your mind to it and stick to a game plan.
