Porn and Economy - Tale of Two Stumuli
July 02, 2008 3:36 PM
Think Progress had an interesting piece today (Hat Tip: Mel Flashman) on the Economic Stimulus package and increased spending in the adult entertainment industry. According to a press release from the Adult Internet Market Research Company:
[adult sites surveyed] "reported 20-30% growth in membership rates since mid-May when the checks were first sent out, and typically the summer is a slow period for this market."
I ran a quick chart on Hitwise, which does appear to corroborate both an increase in visits to the adult entertainment category as well as the typical summer slowdown, which we have noticed over the last several years.
This is my last post on the adult category, if you haven't read the first chapter of Click, on Porn, Pills and Casinos, you can download it here. On July 7th we'll be offering the next chapter. A question for you to ponder until then: What are you afraid of?
