Searching for a Vice President

July 22, 2008 2:04 PM

With November looming, we're seeing an increase in Internet searches centering on potential vice presidential candidates for both the Obama and McCain Tickets.  Over the last 12 weeks here are some of the top searches in the U.S. that contained the term "vice president":

  1. Hillary Clinton
  2. Mitt Romney
  3. Scott Gration
  4. Mike Huckabee
  5. Bill Clinton
  6. Sarah Palin
  7. Joe Biden
  8. Caroline Kennedy
  9. Colin Powell
  10. Fred Thompson

The fifth most popular term, "Bill Clinton," is interesting in that there is also a number of incidents of searchers asking whether a former president can run as vice president. See this article in the Washington Post in 2006 that addresses the issue.

Probably the most worrisome search containing the phrase "vice president," which recurs throughout the top 100 terms shows how in touch our citizenry is with the second-in-command, Internet searches continue to ask: "Who is the vice president."
