Fly Now, Pay Later
July 25, 2008 3:12 PM
Itching for a vacation but don't have a dollar to spare? Take heart: Northwest Airlines introduced a new service on Friday that allows passengers to book their flight now and pay for it later.
The service, offered through the PayPal Pay Later program, lets passengers buy a ticket on Northwest's Web site and then defer payment for 90 days.
In today's announcement the airline says the plan benefits customers by "allowing them to complete their payments on a timeline that works best for their budgets."
Even travelers without PayPal accounts already set up can select Northwest's financing option. US Airways has a similar program called Bill Me Later.
Still, best to take some cash along for the ride -- just in case your plan to pack light falls through.
For tickets sold for travel starting August 28th, Northwest will charge travelers $15 to check their first checked bag and $25 for their second. Northwest announced earlier this month that it will join several other carriers in tacking on that extra fee. The carrier also announced that it will also start charging an extra fee for award tickets come September.
Earlier this week, the carrier announced a second-quarter net loss of $377 million as it took its place among a long list of airlines struggling to pay high fuel bills.

This is ridiculous! You think you are losing money now....how about the people that won't pay after the 90 days and end up at collections and never pay their bill....I say if you don't have the money to pay for your ticket...how do you have money for hotel, car rental, food, spending etc. RIDICULOUS!
