I don't know why anyone would ever want to visit Dubai.

You can't hold hands, kiss or even put your arms around your wife as you walk down the beach. I'd surely get arrested and so would every single one of you.

Regardless of what the outcome of their sentencing, this should be a warning to every single westerner, do not travel to Dubai. If you had any idea what they thought of you for merely kissing your wife in public, you would never want to be in their country and only a fool would sanction a loved one to travel there.

Think about it - it is they who should be respecting our culture or else forbid us from visiting because kissing, holding hands and hugging is too strongly ingrained into western culture - we cannot control it.

Americans will hug you - the French will kiss both of your cheeks and couples will always try to get away with a lot more if they think no one is looking - deal with it. It's called romance and every soul needs this no matter where you're from.

If they cannot deal with this, then they should never allow westerners into their country - problem solved.

I guess they figure they're from another country, it's ok to have sex on the beach. And of all countries they pick Muslim Dubai to do this. Very stupid of them.

Who in their right mind would commit a s-e-x act in public in a Muslim country! Folks, you have to respect a people's sensitivities. BTW don’t they cut off offending body parts in some of these countries . . . . yikes!

So what? The couple would probably face more jail time for doing the same thing in most American cities, especially those in the South. And if they were having sex on an American beach where children could see, the couple could get LIFE in prison in some US states. This has nothing to do with Islam. This has to do with stupid and overbearing laws that exist all around the world, including the USA.

I'm confused. Were they holding hands or having sex? If they were having sex on a public beach in any country I would hope they'd be arrested. Hey, in this country tapping your toes in a bathroom can get you in trouble.

The Dubai/Western thing isn't going to work out.

How about next time you come to Kansas for a holiday instead. It's a lot cheaper than Dubai and we can arrest you for almost as many reasons and our sentencing guidelines reasonably harsh - we're no Dubai, but give us a chance - I know we can make you feel at least half as oppressed. Come to Kansas instead!

What's that you say? Traveling to Kansas sounds lame? Exactly my point. So why would you want to go to Dubai?

Come on, we wouldn't allow an arabic man, who was living in the US for 3 years, to lash his wife with a whip for being seen in public with another man, would we? We expect him to respect US laws and customs, and to be thrown in jail if he didn't do so.

Same applies the other way. It doesn't take much effort to adhere to a local law, and if you don't like it or don't have the mental capacity to understand such a concept, I recommend not to go there. Plain and simple.

foxisms... that's a good question. Dubai is trying to mix modern western life with a primitive religion based on rules and philosophies from a thousand years (or more) ago.

The only reason it APPEARS to be working is because with enough money you can make ANYTHING look possible.

But as many have said on this forum, if you visit another country, expect to live by THEIR rules.

I would avoid a country governed by Islamic Law, even if they try to conceal it in a facade of ostentatious buildings, amusement parks, or whatever.

But if I DID have to visit such a country, I would make SURE I obey their laws.

Wonder if they were doing it during the daytime, hope they chop off his weeney, you know if you steal in any middle east country they chop off your hand and let you go, wonder what they would do in this instance, hmmmmmmmm................But then again what would they do to her????

I say if they want our tourism and want our oil money payments they better be more flexible. What's wrong with probation? Good grief.

If they go through with the sentence, Dubai can suck it. I will never go there or any other country that has draconian laws. 6 yrs, is draconian.
