The composition of our jail populations tells the story. More ILLEGAL immigrants = more crime.

With regards to your story, I received the following message last evening:

According to Rep. Steve King, illegal aliens commit 12
murders every day in the U.S. and kill another 13 daily
through drunk driving incidents.

That's more than 9,000 people killed every year by
illegal aliens.

As World Net Daily's Joseph Farah points out, that means
more people are murdered by illegal aliens in one year
than have been killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars
since their inception.

Rep. King also notes that on average eight children are
sexually abused by illegal aliens every day -- that's
over 2,920 annually. And that's just a small portion
of the illegal alien crime wave.

As we reported in Grassfire's booklet, "The Truth About
The Illegal Invasion," some 325,000 criminal illegal
aliens will be incarcerated in state and federal prisons
this fiscal year. A GAO study found that illegal aliens
commit, on average, 12.6 criminal offenses. This means
incarcerated illegal aliens have committed over 4.1
million crimes -- and that does not include illegal
alien criminals who are not incarcerated. And we
learned from Rep. Tom Tancredo that thousands of
illegals are coming from terrorist and suspect nations.

This seems to contradict the Harvard study.

The very fact that many foreigners choose to stay here without proper documentation/citizenship means that crime goes up dramatically. A great many also drive illegally, more crime. A great many also drive without proper insurance, more crime. Many also falsely claim state or federal assistance, more crime. Many do not pay any form of taxes on their earnings, more crime. Many commit various crimes and are just let go because the local system of law enforcement does not want to deal with an illegal alien. No justice or recourse is available to
American citizens who are the victims of these crimes such as my friend who was hit by an illegal alien in her car. The police told her to get as much cash as the persons had on hand and let the two illegal persons, driving illegally with no license or insurance and not in the country legally, drive away. My friend only got a small amount of cash from them and it was not nearly enough to fix her car.

Any person who wants to become a citizen or stay in this country long term and who is actively working in the system to legally do so is welcome. Those who are choosing to abuse the system should go back to their country of origin. It does not matter how long the system takes or how much work it is, do it right or go home.

Indeed, human conscience is the same all over, and you will have your percentage of "rotten apples," but in its core, immigration has injected tremendous vitality to America. There are countless examples, from the forced immigration which produced peanut butter and the civil rights movement, to the turn-of-the-century wave which discovered breakthrough drugs like that for AMGEN, incorp., the cure for polio, and the key enzyme for human metabolism. The "selected" immigration of Jewish scientists was a bumper crop.

How about having the research done by someone who is not Hispanic. You mite get the truth.

Pomona California, where i grew up for instance. 30 years ago the population was aproximately 10% Hispanic. Today it is 99.99% Hispanic. In that same time the crime rate has increased 700%.
I do not belive the 2 white guys in town are doing all the crime.

It is a really silly idea simply because almost all of us who want the immigration to be a U.S. Citizen decision rather than a decision by Corperate America, know that some 36% of the jail cells in the Federal Prison are occupied by illegal aliens. We also know that number would be higher if the Feds actually prosequted all the people who have been caught for, for example, narcotics violations, fake I.D.s.

And we also know that if you look at the incarcaration rate at the State Level, the number of illegal aliens in jail for violent offenses related to narcotics is even higher.

Since I once respected you, I will tell you this: the Hispaic Defense League got the rules changed for Hispanics. They are held as 'White' on the rolls until they are finished with the legal system, and then they are entered as .. hispanic.. illegal alien. Go to the prison records for the correct information.

Want to reduce crime in your part of the country? Just invite a load of illegal immigrants in... That'll take care of it, right? Those Harvard boys are doing everything they can to get us to accept more cheap labor into the US. More bad news for the American middle-class...

Immigration = More Diversity and less fear of the other person who does not look like you. As for crime, the more poor people are the more crime that is committed.

If a person comes into this country illegally, they've committed a crime from the start. Not to mention stolen identities, fraudulent drivers license and social security numbers. Mainstream media does not report these crimes which include gang violence, drug trafficking, killings, rape and DUIs. How many illegal criminals are already behind bars? How many are the police unable to question because of "Special Order 40"? If you are unskilled and can't find or don't want to find work, the next alternative for many illegals is - CRIME! Illegal Immigration itself is a crime!

I would like to know if Robert J. Sampson lives next door to these wonderful immigrants who do so much for the economy of the wealthy and privileged. Maybe he wouldn't be so enthusiastic if he lived in an apt. where his neighbors play loud banda music at 3 am and puke their cerveza on his doorstep.

This is crazy. The U.S. govmt. continues to put all Americans in danger; every day! I totally agree with all but two of you. Not only is crime an issue and on the rise, but what about illness. No one checking ANYONE coming into this country for any forms of illness.

Did you know that the CDC has serious concern about TB in the southwestern states of this country?? It's a fact!!

Slowly we all see that this country is going to the "DOGS". Is there anyone in Washington still listening?

And please don't get me starting on the voting issues in this country.

Lastly, I like the way the reporter phrased the question- using the words "IMMIGRANTS = MORE CRIME?". The correct wording should be "ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS = MORE CRIME?", and the answer is YES!!

Most Americans agree that our current immigration mess is threatening to destroy the country. I would like to propose a new immigration policy: 10,000 people per year drawn only from those with a specific skill in science/technology/medicine. In addition, require them to be fluent in English before applying for entry and require them to pass a stringent citizenship test and take a loyalty oath within 6 months of their arrival. The great ship America will sink if we keep taking on unlimited numbers of uneducated third worlders. Obviously, not all so-called "immigrants" are equal. Those from Mexico are primarily an invasion force sent at the behest of Comrade Vicente Fox. Have a nice day.

Personally I don't know but while watching a county commission meeting on TV re: new jails, when a commissioner asked "What is the breakdown of prisoners?" The man testifying replied,"9 out of 10 Hispanic". I'm not sure that's the "breakdown" he was asking for but that's the answer he got and please note, he didn't say illegals so legal status was not evidently considered in his answer.

How about having the commenting done by someone who is not racist. You "mite" get less overt bigotry.

I love how most of you idiots are essentially saying: "To hell with the facts! Everybody knows Hispanics are dirty and evil!"

I know you think brown people are super scary, but get over it. Crime rates are about poverty, not race. When an area gets poorer, crime goes up no matter who the poor people are.

I live in Queens, New York, the most diverse county in America -- and that means lots of immigrants, illegal and not, and Hispanics. As we get more diverse, crime rates have been dropping like a brick. The neighborhood I live in, filled with immigrants, has one of the lowest crime rates of any neighborhood in New York City, the safest (and most diverse) big city in America. There's your research done "someone who is not Hispanic" -- me.

President (Theodore) Roosevelt said it best (three days before he died)…

“In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile…We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language…and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

I personally love diversity and love to see immigrants moving into our beautiful country. This nation was founded on immigrants from other countries, and the diversity helps make us strong. However, my one caveat is that ALL immigrants should come to this country legally. A system has been set up so that immigrants coming here can be productive and contributing members of society and the system can help them to do that. The problems arise when people come here illegally and start "brushing the cat's fur" the wrong way.

Going back to what Roosevelt said, it irritates the heck out of me to see a car driving down the road with a flag from (insert the driver's former country here) on their bumper or waving from their antenna. If a person comes to America to live and work and wants to become a part of this society, they should do it legally and become an American. The immigrants who come here who are trying to escape the conditions in their homelands are coming to the U.S. to make a better life for themselves in our society. Unfortunately, most illegal immigrants often bring the way of life from (insert the name of the country where they left from which they are trying to escape) to the U.S. and bringing down the standard of living here. In their former country, it may have been acceptable to use methods which are considered crimes in the U.S., i.e. bribes, stealing, drug-dealing, domestic violence, etc. Instead of assimilating into the U.S. culture, the immigrants take the ignorant/easy route and do 'what they know best' and those practices are not accepted or lawful here. The immigration system in the U.S. attempts to re-educate people so that they don't make those mistakes in this society.

Well, from someone who is living in a border town, the rest of the world needs to take a drip down here to see where the rest of the world is going. Every store is crowded, no matter what kind, and forget taking your child to the doctor..please. Spanish is the native language here in Sourthern Texas so if you speak only English and you're not Hispanic, good luck finding a job with benefits, unless of course you are a doctor, nurse, or government worker. You can work at the local clothing joints as long as up put with petty rules from the so-called managers. If you know enough people and kiss enough behind, you may get hired somewhere else. My point being, if there are no limits put on illegal immigration, they'll take over this country. If they want to be Americans, create a law that says they need to serve at least 1 year in Iraq..that would settle a lot of folks down. America is losing it's balls to these people..and it doesn't help that good Ol Bush needs to keep his rich buddies richer with all the cheap help.
Send them to war first...and lets see what happens.

Only an idiot believes that illegals are not responseable for the large increase in crime in this country and we American citizens have voted into office a lot of idiots.

Isn't it strange: the Latinos in my neighborhood aren't the source of the police visits, the domestic disputes, the misdemeanor charges or the code violations. I'm Anglo, btw.

Recent shooting/murder in the neighborhood: Anglos. Recent attempted rape: Anglos. Trespassing problems? Anglos. Unlawful discharge of fireworks: Anglos.

Repair of run-down houses: Latinos. The occasional kids' birthday party: Latinos. Restoration and maintenance of neglected front yards: Latinos.

As for some immigrants being here illegally and therefore guilty of a crime: How many of you speed? Most of you. How many of you fail to yield the right of way to a pedestrian, even a uniformed police officer, in a crosswalk? More than a few of you, based on recent traffic sting operations. That's attempted homicide, a felony. How many of you fail to come to a complete stop at a 4-way stop? About 90% of you, based on my observation point at a nearby bus stop. How many of the smokers among you toss your butts out the window while driving? That's littering and potentially arson. The vast majority of you ARE guilty of some crime or other, even if you aren't caught. Why the double standard? At least merely living and working in a country illegally doesn't inherently involve endangering others.

How about learning a foreign language? Many of you insist that people who want to live here learn English virtually overnight. And the majority of those of you who make that demand didn't ever take a foreign language because it's "too hard". Nonetheless, you expect others to overcome an obstacle you won't even attempt.

Even the U.S. military doesn't expect it's brightest soldiers to achieve moderate fluency in a relatively "easy" language like Spanish until the completion of 6 months of intensive instruction. "Harder" languages require 12 to 18 months to achieve a comparable level of mastery. And, as I mentioned, they only demand that of soldiers who are highly intelligent, often well-educated, and have shown an aptitude for learning languages.

Somehow some day laborer from Oaxaca is supposed to accomplish the same in a month or two? Get real, folks. Don't demand that others do what you can not or will not do.

Anyone who says illegal's don't increase crime either doesn't live around illegals, or they have an axe to grind(MECHA etc.). I live in a valley that is 1500 miles from the border, yet most of our crime come from illegal's, their offspring, or both. Our jails are full of hispanics and our streets are full of hispanic gang members. Some much for the mythological "strong" hispanic family.

only in america do we let ilegals come here, be born here, so the kids are us citizens. then we have to pay the hosp bills, and ecucate them through college in ca. is it any wonder san diego is bankrupt? they sure are a larger portion of inmates then their numbers in the general population. but I am sure it's because the cops frame them? so if we bring in a few hundred thousand more ca. will be better off.

My hate for illegal aliens, especially mexicans, stems from the two most recent incidents in the news involving these low-life illegals. One is from the east coast where, as far as I am concerned, an American hero who returned from Iraq and his fiancee after two years of managing to stay alive only to be murdered by one of these low-lifes. And, you know what? He'll probably walk! The other incident is from Denver, where a Denver Police officer was murdered by an illegal low-life. And, he'll probably walk. But, what ticks me off about the whole thing is these LOW-LIFES were both already put into one our fine criminal institutions and released becaus of the poor immigration laws in this country and these hispanic defending legal people that call themselves american lawyers. I think every lawyer that manages to get one of these folks should be sent back to mexico with them!
