Freaky Friday Redux?

October 30, 2008 11:25 AM

Ballot_box_vote2008_main Four years ago, Osama bin Laden released a tape the Friday before Election Day.
Sen. John Kerry is convinced it stalled his last-minute surge.

Four years before that, the big story on the Friday before the election was that George. W. Bush had been arrested for DUI in Maine as a young man. His supporters are convinced that cost him the popular vote.

Back in 1992, special prosecutor Lawrence Walsh indicted Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger for his involvement in Iran-contra the Friday before the election.
President George H.W. Bush and his team thought it cost them the election.

In each of these cases, the impact of the these last-minute surprises was more debatable than that.
But there's no question they made some difference.

Can it happen again?

Unlikely, because of early voting. What we're learning this week is that more than 10 percent of voters have already voted. A third will probably have voted by Election Day.

That, combined with the small number of voters who still appear undecided, and the saturation of the airwaves with campaign messages in the final weekend, mean that even a freakier Friday this time around probably won't matter much.

Palin's medical records that were supposed to be released days ago perhaps? (Guess they have to "fix" a few things first)

It is so astonishing. Palin seeking the biggest office in the entire world, but not able to fulfil the requirements.
Where is your Med Records Palin?
Are you serious with the job or you are testing our IQ???

Early voting seems to be an improvement that stabilizes our democracy.

And early voting for Barack Obama will have the same effect!

GO OBAMA!!!!

Late on Friday, if at all

What do you want to see? how her episiotomies were done???? if she had any tearing????

Posted by: CC | Oct 30, 2008 11:50:08 AM

Yeah, Where are her medical records? Also isn't today the day that the personnel board meets to go over their investigators
findings?

Posted by: Teri | Oct 30, 2008 12:00:07 PM

McCain's tipping point was reached today when he introduced Joe the Plumber and Joe wasn't on the platform. He was nowhere to be found.
McCain has a rogue VP out for herself.
This helps prove that if McCain is given the chance to run the country like this, we're in a heap of do-do. Regular folks vet their baby sitter more thoroughly than McCain has vetted the people around him.
This is the October surprise.

Posted by: doug | Oct 30, 2008 12:02:39 PM

Since Obama and Biden have released ALL of thedir medical records it stands in stark contrast that McCain and Palin have not...that, in and of itself, usually leads one to wonder what, if anything, they are hiding.
In McCains case? 4 bouts with fatal cancer stands alone. The public has a right to know.
Palin and her preganacy with son Trig? Is open to speculation to many and they have a right to know.
Honestly? One would think that McCain and Palin would want to put these rumors to rest by simply releasing their medical reacords..the fact that they won't? Should speak to people who have a concern with Palin being President.

Im wating for the Republican boogy man to hit the airwaves friday is Halloween perfect time for a little fear for people!

Posted by: Angie | Oct 30, 2008 12:03:26 PM

Actually, I'd like to see her keep her word. But that's a lot to ask since she is a complusive liar.

Posted by: Late on Friday, if at all | Oct 30, 2008 12:04:26 PM

Don't you think it is important for a presidential or vice presidential candidate to make some release of their health records? Especially when they said they would do it?

There's probably not much in there for a healthy 40-something year old woman, but then why not release it? It conveys an attitude of either arrogance or something to hide...

Posted by: doc | Oct 30, 2008 12:05:05 PM

CC,

It appears that for a campaign (McCain/Palin) that is so big on "keeping your word" and upholding traditions that they would've supplied some formal document regarding Gov. Palin's health by now. (Isn't it "tradition" for presidential candidates to provide information on their health?)

Posted by: Marie | Oct 30, 2008 12:05:54 PM

add the arrogance and lying to Palins refusal to release her medical records and we all better be praying that McCain does not win. Could you imagine a world where she was the commander in chief? Heck she has already been found guilty of abuse of power once and still have another charge in the tubes!

Posted by: Grissom | Oct 30, 2008 12:07:21 PM

TROOPERGATE IS NOT OVER YET. THE INDEPENDENT COMMISSION IS STILL TO MAKE A RULLING ON SARAH PALIN. ALSO, SHE IS BEING CHARGED WITH ANOTHER ETHICS VIOLATION REGARDING CHARGING THE STATE OF ALASKA $21,000 FOR TRAVEL FOR HER KIDS.

Posted by: JOE | Oct 30, 2008 12:07:46 PM

You will reap what you will sow.

Posted by: Mr. Twister | Oct 30, 2008 12:08:08 PM

It's funny though... they (McCain/Palin) argue that Obama took back his word on campaign financing, and yet it seems they are taking back their word on Palin's health records. Interesting...

Posted by: Marie | Oct 30, 2008 12:08:22 PM

Palin stated last Friday that she would release the records yet here it is almost a week later and no records...imagine my surprise that once again Palin is lying.

Posted by: Grissom | Oct 30, 2008 12:08:36 PM

Is Trig really her son or grandson? Ever see a picture of her preggers with that child? Why did she fly 10 hours after "her water broke"?
Yes there are a few things we would like answered, but most importantly, why would a career driven woman risk pregnancy by having unprotected sex with her husband while running a state office? Condoms anyone? Abstinence, method, common sense? Where is it?

Posted by: What's That Smell | Oct 30, 2008 12:09:18 PM

I wonder if the Repubs will pull out the old Color Code of Terrorism.. Slap a "red" bar on tv and say "be scared.. we have new "information" we recived (created) about an attack"... BULLLL SH!T.. If there is one.. Bush/McCain and there people coordinated it. Save us ALL Obama!!

Posted by: Michael in Philly 'Burbs | Oct 30, 2008 12:09:23 PM

Maybe the fact that her husband Todd was a member of the seccionist party. ABC should have asked Sarah that question to respond to her accusations that Barack is not patriotic.

Thanks Joe :)

Posted by: What's That Smell | Oct 30, 2008 12:12:14 PM

I am also curious as to why Gov. Palin has not released her medical records. It would seem to me that all doctors and professional care personnel would be jumping at the chance to make sure these documents were readily available. After all, she could possibly be the vice president. Although not by my vote.

Obama released a letter from his longtime physician. But not his medical rrecords.

The letter contained relatively few details but noted that Obama has a family history of cancer – his mother died of ovarian cancer and a grandfather of prostate cancer. A prostate-specific antigen test detected no issues for Obama, however.

The Illinois senator has struggled to quit smoking, Dr. David L. Scheiner wrote in the overview, but is now “using Nicorette gum with success.”
Even though others have reported he's a ccloset smoker.

“His build was lean and muscular with no excess body fat,” Scheiner said of the last physical, conducted Jan. 15, 2007. “His physical examination was completely normal.”

The overview was contained in a one-page letter with no supporting documentation. “With no surgery or hospital stays, this is a complete summary of his doctor visits and medical records for the past two decades,” said campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

The brief Obama letter contrasted with Arizona Sen. John McCain’s decision to let a selected group of reporters spend three hours with nearly 1,200 pages of health records last week.

So, Obama, were still waiting...

TruthHurts,

And how do you feel about us waiting on ANYTHING on/from Gov. Palin?

Posted by: Marie | Oct 30, 2008 12:16:01 PM

Are any of you willing to release your Medical Records? It is a federal violation under HIPPA compliance for anyone to get a hold of anyones medical records.
