'It's Not a Criticism of Sarah Palin, it's a Criticism of John McCain,' Emanuel Says
October 26, 2008 11:43 AM
John McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Barack Obama supporter Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., responded this morning to a wave of Republican endorsements for Obama citing Gov. Sarah Palin as a negative for McCain. "It's not a criticism of Sarah Palin, it's a criticism of John McCain," Emanuel said explaining the "Palin Effect" in an exclusive "This Week" interview. "[McCain] has had compulsive erratic behavior. Obama has shown the leadership America is working for. Obama has shown the qualities that the American people are looking for."
While Graham said,"The Republican Party is in the toilet for a reason," he stood firm in his defense of Palin.
"Sarah has energized our base better than anybody we could have picked," he said. Graham, who previously backed Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., for vice president said "she is being treated, I think, very poorly and unfairly...her accomplishments are real."
Graham and Emanuel also spoke out on Sen. Joe Biden's comments earlier in the week claiming Obama will be "tested" within the first six months of his presidency.
"You're going to be challenged every day for four years, 24/7," Emanuel explained. "And what also Joe Biden said is that Barack Obama has a spine of steel. You've seen it through his campaign. You've seen it in the way he handled the financial crisis, the way versus what John McCain showed, an impulsive behavior."
But Graham disagreed. "Spine of steel, that's a new one.... Senator Obama's domestic and international policies are ill suited to the times... John McCain understands this world far better than Barack Obama understood Iraq, Iran and Russia. Senator Obama would be a very dangerous choice for president of the United States when it comes to foreign policy."

All the thinking Republicans are jumping ship. Doesn't that tell you something?

McCain is way too erratic for someone who wants to be in control of the nuclear football. I can only imagine someone in Russia or Iran upsets him, and off McCain fires some nukes to please the hawks in his party and relieve some stress. He is way too erratic: first he picks the least qualifies VP candidate in history, then he suspends his campaign because he can't do two things at once, and now he's trying to rewrite history before it has even happened: pretending to be the savior of the middle class when all his economic policies are geared towards the rich. Americans: go read for yourself and don't buy into the ads and speeches, look and compare the candidates' plans. Unless you make more than a quarter million dollars a year, you better be voting for Obama. That is unless you are fine with what you have and don't need a tax cut and want to be so generous and let all the millionaires have all the tax cuts. Wake up America and don't fall for the fear tactics that led us to re-elect Bush in 2004. Enough is enough. Obama/Biden 08!

"You've seen it in the way he handled the financial crisis"...sorry Rahm..you sawed off little runt...but you are WRONG! McCain suspended his campaign to return to DC to help work out a fix..and your Messiah? He went to NC to continue to campaign! McCain has a strong record of reaching across the isle to work with Democrats. On things like campaign finance reform, global warming and immigration. The last thing we need is a government controlled by one party. We saw it with Carter and we had 6 years of it with Bush. We all know the results if both.

the same Graham that said this is a recession "in people's heads"? he has a credibility problem if you ask me.

McCain = DISHONORABLE; Palin = SCARY!!!

your brainwashed by the ads and by Obama, these are not fear tactics, democrats are behind the reasons for our economy to plumpet like this, and behind the bailout. wake up people, promises can be made but can you really make it happen and will it work out? especially coming from someone who has no experience.
Posted by: Sharon | Oct 26, 2008 12:16:37 PM
sorry to say but Palin's accomplishments are very few if any. even her gas line is corrupted. bridge to nowhere, she kept the money, Socialist, gives money to all Alaskans every year from oil benefits(spread the wealth), fires people who think different to her, puts friends in power, abused her power in troopergate,$150,000 in RNC funds for clothes, $32,000 foe make up and hair, religion scary, got rid of building permits for personal gain, $17,000 charged to Alaskans for expences on family trips. Sorry not much good to say about her and you wonder why her negatives are going up.

MBNA Joe, great. Another Joe Nobody spouting off crap just 9 days shy of defeat. McCain looked like an idiot during the financial crisis. Everyone except for you, McCain, Lindsey Graham, and maybe Joe Lieberman saw that. So please spare me the GOP line that McCain was a hero during that week. He looked like a frantic, erratic, confused, gambling moron. And the polls have shown it since. See you November 5th!

FIRST OF ALL, let's remind everyone that Stephanopoulos was one of Bill Clinton's political hacks. Sarah Palin ,in fact, would likely make a better President than either McCain or Obama. She's the only one in this campaign with executive experience as both a Mayor and Governor. Senators run their mouths, that's their job. Mayors run cities and Governors run states. VOTE FOR PATRIOTS - VOTE McCAIN-PALIN

I watched it this morning and most of what graham was saying wasn't even mentioned.
Posted by: adam | Oct 26, 2008 12:25:22 PM
JUST A REMINDER: Rahm Emanuel (aka Twinkle Toes)was another of the Clinton admistration's hacks and, lest we forget, a former ballet dancer. Now that's a qualification to work at the highest levels of government !
Posted by: Ron | Oct 26, 2008 12:28:36 PM
Hardly anybody watches him! But funny they say it is a dig on McCain but what about Joe Biden and his 40 some gaffs? Total crap just like the mainstreet press!

The basic facts of this election are these:
McCain hasn't been able to offer a consistent attractive candidacy, being devoid of any realistic vision of where to go and how to get there which makes sense.
McCain's choice of Sarah Palin, probably the LEAST qualified Republican woman in the national eye, indicates the "gimmickry" that took the place of substance in his thinking.
McCain's complete lack of ANY message except fear of "the other guy" offers no reason to vote FOR him (McCain).
Obama has surprised many doubters with his calm and professional attitude, and his control in the face of rediculous and unfair charges from the McCain camp...a trait that will serve him well when dealing with the Iranians, the Russians, the Pakistanis... and the Republicans.
The Obama campaign's ground game clearly indicates that that there is alot of value to being a community organizer when running for office...his organization simply is the biggest and most effective ever seen.
People are ready to give this guy Obama, who more than any recent Presidential candidate represents the culmination of the AMERICAN DREAM, who clearly is intelligent and thoughtful and deliberative, a chance to lead us.
McCain has already lost.
Sarah Palin has already divorced from McCain and is showing her unpricipled and unbridled ambition to become the Republican party leader and candidate in 2012.
On November 5th, President-elect Obama will begin the arduous task of putting the Executive Branch of the US Government back together from the pieces left over from 8 years of the hateful and disreputable reign of Bush/ Cheyney.
Get used to it, get involved and lend a hand...we are going to all need it!

Mayaaaan, the wignuts are desperate this morning!
McCain was pathetic on MTP. Couldn't remember his endorsers and when asked for explanations for poll numbers on Palin and campaign, could only reply that he didn't agree. DUUUH!
Brokaw did his best to save him but McCain outperformed even his shilling.

BOTTOM LINE:
McCAIN = FAIL

Well I guess you could not get an intelligent guest to go on w Rahm Emanuel. Please try harder to not subject us to this L. Graham type of unsupported , non-factual, idiotic rhetoric in the future , okay ? It just wastes your time and that of the million people who are watching. your job is to ADD to our knowledge, not to serve up a net lessening. One feels not only irked but actually dumber after listening to Graham. I try to find value in everyone but it's a tough task w that guy. There are smart repubs , why not leave LG at home? Thanks

Et tu, Peggy? I just finished reading When Character Was King. I thought it was a great book...then I hear you quoted as throwing Sarah Palin under the bus. I could not understand it...then George mentions that you have a book coming out. I am truly sorry to realize that you are another Washington insider willing to sell out...but you got to sit at the table.

George are you a republican??? Or a fair commentator? Or what??? You sure let the windbag from Iowa (Graham) run away with your show. When it was time for Rep. Emanuel to speak, if Graham wasn't interupting him, YOU were! Some of us would like to hear what they have to say! Isn't that why you brought them on the show in the first place??? Maybe not. When a program tips too far one way or the other because of poor or biased commentating, I simply change the channel. I have watched your program for years. I am disappointed!

I really liked the Republican sound bite of the week: that Obama is trying to redistribute wealth!
The real re-distribution of wealth already happened. The Republican administration of GW Bush has destroyed the middle class, executive pay went ballistic and money "investors" made all the money while more people fell into poverty than at any other time in our recent history. How anyone in their right mind can say the Democrats are responsible for this blows my mind.
To be fair, I blame Congress. The Chief Executive can't get away with it without their votes. Replace them Nov 4th!

The entire Republican campaign has been undisciplined, poor organized, run and managed.
Sarah Palin is a symptom and a serious flaw that eroded support.
The campaign is a reflection of the personality of Senator Mc Cain and the campaign has not instilled confidence in the voters regarding his ability to manage and lead the Country.

Independents are by and large independent because they don't buy into the typical party line but they do tend to listen to both sides. Barack Obama stated on Bill O'Reilly that the surge "has succeeded beyond our wildest dreams". For Graham to refuse to acknowledge Obama's admission, and in fact, to flatly state otherwise does a discredit to the Republican message. It is disingenous and makes everything in their message this campaign season suspect. McCain is the benefactor of that suspicion. McCain has tried to win this election on tactics when the state of our nation, particularly our economy, required a coherent strategy.
John McCain has behaved erratically and he is off-message. When he should have been talking about a vision for this country, he was talking about experience. When he should have been talking about the economy, he was talking about Bill Ayers. When he should have been talking about a united team, he was defending the incoherent utterances of Sarah Palin. No vision, no clear economic message, a poor choice for VP, a splintered and often disingenous Republic machine and... NO MCCAIN!
G-O-Bama 08!

McCain is trying to use a standard GOP tactic, fear their opposition. It has worked in the past, but this year is different because voters are paying more attention to the issues.

I am an independent voter. I have listened to both Democrat and Republican sides. I have observed behavior and conduct, temperment and leadership abilities.
I have looked at the issues and responses. I have considered is best able to address the monumental issues of our day.
I have prayed about it. I have made a decision.
My choice is Barack Obama. He will get my vote tomorrow for President.
