Obama Not Told About Alleged Assassination Plot

October 27, 2008 5:11 PM

Nm_obama_secret_service_detail_0810 A senior Barack Obama aide tells ABC News that Obama's Secret Service detail had not been briefed on the alleged plot to assassinate the Democratic nominee, an indication that the plot had not reached the point of posing a serious threat to Obama.

"They were given no heads up," the Obama aide tells ABC News.

ABC News' Jack Date reports the ATF have arrested two neo-Nazis for an alleged plot to Obama.

The plotters were also planning to kill 88 individuals by gunfire and 14 African Americans by decapitation a federal law enforcement sources tells ABC News.

Obama has had Secret Service agents surrounding him since May 3, the earliest a candidate has ever been provided protection.

An Obama aide tells ABC News that Secret Service headquarters "would be notified of anything that mentioned" Obama. But adds that "it never rose to any sort of serious level," which explains why Obama's personal detail was not notified.

Kim:

you would use any opportunity to inject that stupid Ayers argument......

Posted by: shalom | Oct 27, 2008 5:53:46 PM

Ayers never did anything for which any formal charges were ever lodged against him. And just for the record, the only people any of the members of the Weather Underground ever killed were members of the Weather Underground. And for the first responder on this thread, a question. What about Mr. McCain's "palling around" with G. Gorden Liddy? Why doesn't that count?

Posted by: claypigeonb | Oct 27, 2008 5:56:37 PM

There is no doubt that the hate messages spewing forth in the last month from the McCain campaign helps to foment these sorts of plots.

Posted by: Robert | Oct 27, 2008 5:57:25 PM

Kim - Seriously? Ayres? Come on. There is no fricking comparison. We're talking about a plan to commit mass homicide and kill the next President of the United States because of RACE and HATE.

Who promotes race-baiting and fear-mongering? The GOP and the right-wing talking heads and radio personalities. The ones who brought you Ayres, Wright, Acorn, etc. - ALL non-relevant spin-tales designed to inspire fear and hate in the electorate.

We love Obama;
shame on McNasty and Cheney Light (McCain and Palin) for the hate and racism they have promoted and incited !

Posted by: philosopherkingtomas | Oct 27, 2008 5:57:44 PM

Why is it that when things like this happen it is McCain or Palin or Hillary who has "incited" it. Doesn't anyone understand that racism exists in this country and is not there because of Obama's political opponents. On the contrary, they are all too afraid to really press him on his former associations like Wright and appear "racist," when it was Obama and his wife in the front pew for 20 years when their beloved pastor was spewing hate. I just wish Obama supporters would see Obama for what he really is: WEAK. If he were white, he would be running ahead by 70% by now, so racism works both ways. He may be the first affirmative action president.

Leadership 101 Sarah and John. You must recognize the power of your mouths and the statements that come out of them! Are YOU ready?

Hey Sarah, are THEY terrorists.

Posted by: Doc G | Oct 27, 2008 5:58:59 PM

Another OBVIOUS leftist media ploy to distract attention from the radical muslim socialist Obama

RELEASE THE RASHID KHALILI TAPES, MEDIA!!!! OBAMA IS A TERRORIST!

Posted by: Khrutch | Oct 27, 2008 5:59:33 PM

With Palin/McCain's race-baiting, terrorist-mongering and McCarthyeque theatrics, it's not surprising that a few of their supporters resort to this type of action.

When Palin implied that a vote for Obama would lead to a loss of liberty and freedom and especially when she dropped the 'C' word -- Communism, this is the consequence of irresponsible speech and thoughtless actions of a hate-filled campaign.

It's obvious that Palin does not get out much from the backwater of Alaska. Communism in the 21st century. are you kidding?

Be safe Obama.

A "lady" at a Palin rally today is heard screaming "He's a ni**er" as the VP candidate paused momentarily, then, with her voice getting higher continued. . . NO action or spine. . . She heard and did / said nothing. . . SHAME on her.

.

McCain and Palin rallys do incite this kind of hatred and anger in people. I can't believe how low McCain has gone. He has no honor left and now he is splitting the country. He should be so ashamed of himself.
Palin needs to go back to her home where I doubt she will be re-elected. McCain needs to go to one of his many homes and retire. I hope when this election is over the press refuses to cover Palin, McCain, Bush and Cheney, enough is enough. I want to go the rest of my life without ever seeing them or hearing their voices ever again.
The Secret Service had better keep Obama safe, I know Obama will keep us safe.

Correction to the above: if Obama were white, he never would have had a chance against Hillary in the first place, given his weak postions and lack of experience

Posted by: rob | Oct 27, 2008 6:01:16 PM

Rob - you are scum.

Posted by: mudge007 | Oct 27, 2008 6:02:08 PM

McCain and Palin should tone down their foolish rhetoric immediately before they can caught in a backlash the likes this nation has never seen. People do not want hate. Stop the hate- it has no place in civilized political discourse.

Posted by: Jim | Oct 27, 2008 6:02:09 PM

To all African Americans "Watch your surroundings at all times as election day approaches." Obama is in less danger than the average black person in the street. If you live in racist areas be twice as careful. stay safe

Posted by: Horace | Oct 27, 2008 6:02:23 PM

Any plot by any person(s) to kill anyone is unacceptable. Period.

Posted by: Jane | Oct 27, 2008 6:03:03 PM

Kim, I can't believe you have the nerve to use this news to shamefully bring up Ayers against Obama. Using a possible assassination attempt on Obama against Obama is beyond distasteful.

Posted by: Preston | Oct 27, 2008 6:03:05 PM

Be safe Obama! I wonder how Michelle feels when she hears this, MCCAIN PLEASE STOP STIRRING UP ANGER IN YOUR RALLIES Maybe if your big mouth vp wouldnt of have been talking about palling around with Terriost then this would not be happening Palin has only rubbed salt in wounds!

Posted by: Angie | Oct 27, 2008 6:03:17 PM

Obama = affirmative action candidate. Lay off of Hillary, McCain and Palin!

Posted by: Rob | Oct 27, 2008 6:03:18 PM

The Weathermen always warned the people in the buildings they were going to bomb so that the buildings could be evacuated.

ENOUGH SAID.

Posted by: mjg | Oct 27, 2008 6:03:44 PM

khrutch -you too are scum.

Posted by: mudge007 | Oct 27, 2008 6:04:36 PM

Kim, you are an ignorant hateful fool.

Posted by: Tom | Oct 27, 2008 6:04:36 PM

Kim said "I wish that you people could be as equally upset and angry about the actions of another home grown terrorist Ayers. Imagine what the family of those individuals feel."

My question -- Who exactly did Ayers kill and can you provide proof of that killing?

Posted by: dotheresearch | Oct 27, 2008 6:04:54 PM

In a note of heroism in the workplace there were 40 telemarketers who resigned rather than read scripts sliming Obama that were paid for by the McCain campaign. This has happened elsewhere as well. People have had enough of their garbage outside of the workplace as well.

Posted by: bhciapol | Oct 27, 2008 6:06:34 PM

Are you happy Palin? Are you happy McCain? I almost hate to ask because honestly you and your Republican hate-mongering constituents probably are. This is sickening to think that you are condoning this type of behaviour and you are loving to stir up the hate no matter where you go. Please stop with the distortion of the truth and LIES!! Don't you know that the LIES that you are spewing from your mouths are causing people to HATE this much???? You will do anything to keep complete control and annihilation of this country. You are nothing but manipulative and mind-controlling, hate and war-mongers. We have had enough of your disgusting rule!!! You need to step aside and let someone else try to bring back peace and order into our country. I don't care if the person is purple, green and blue all over. They are good for this country and we deserve to get our country back!!!
