Will This Change the Senate Odds?
October 28, 2008 4:33 PM
The Republican National Committee has taken out a $5 million line of credit to shore up vulnerable Senate Republicans and to keep Senate Democrats from winning a filibuster-proof 60 seat majority, a RNC official tells ABC News' Teddy Davis.
Of the $5 million, $2 million has gone to the National Republican Senatorial Committee and $3 million is going to "coordinated expenditures."
With Barack Obama leading John McCain in the latest polls, and Democrats poised to pad their majority in the House where a simple majority is enough to control the agenda, the Senate is viewed by Republican strategists as perhaps the last best chance for the GOP to hold some measure of power.

Why didn't they use McCains money, he has lost his race.

I am so happy that the people of this great Nation are taking back their government. We will have a Democratic President with a Democratic House and Senate. Finally, maybe some good will start happening for us all.

I don't care about anything more than the bad judgment displayed by McCain picking Palin as VP. That act could endanger the United States more than any other we;ve EVER faced. He is a 72 year old cancer survivor and could die at any time, what on earth would we do with an idiot like Palin as president, she makes Bush look normal.

Sorry, have I missed something...aren't loans and credit hard to come by these days?
Who "loaned" the RNC the money?
Posted by: scooterfoot | Oct 28, 2008 5:41:00 PM
Maybe they shouldn't have spent $150,000 on Palin's wardrobe!!!

Bad moon rising for the GOP

Obama is a very smart person. Consider this: everybody was pressuring him to choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate. If that had happened, McCain would have gone with Romney, and that would have made the Obama/Clinton a very weak ticket. With Obama not caving in to public pressure to choose Hillary, McCain showed bad judgment by impusively picking Sarrah Palin, who has turned out to be everybody's nuissance, as a running mate. Talking about buyers remorse for McCain.

Republicans creating debt?? How strange.
Posted by: Ratna | Oct 28, 2008 9:45:56 PM
Typical Republican response... borrow money you don't have and increase your deficit. Is this how McCain is going to run the economy? Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result.

I guess the RNC needs a bailout. It's a good thing Bush has set a precedent for using taxpayer money to bailout losing ventures.

All those morons happy about the possibility democrats winning.
Don't they realize they will not get democracy but a-socialism?

THE GREATNESS OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY IS THEIR GENEROSITY.
SOCIALISM IS GENEROSITY BY THE GOVERNMENT WHO STEALS IT FROM THE PEOPLE.
IF THE GOVERNMENT IS PLAYING SANTA CLAUSE WITH YOUR MONEY, THE INCENTIVE FOR PEOPLE TO GIVE AND SHARE WILL DIMINISH
LOOK TO EUROPE AND SOCIALIST COUNTRIES. YOU WILL SEE THAT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY GIVING VOLUNTARY BY PEOPLE IS VERY LITTLE COMPARED WITH THE US.
WHEN OBAMA TURNS THIS COUNTRY TOWARDS SOCIALISM, AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL LOOSE ONE OF THEIR MOST SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS: CARING FOR OTHERS
WE WILL BECOME JUST ANOTHER A-SOCIAL COUNTRY.

This could be devastating for the GOP. They need to get some good moderate leadership with some diversity and get started again. They will go nowhere being Sarah Palins party. They need to be Bobby Jindals or some other educated young starts party.

"The Republican National Committee has taken out a $5 million line of credit"
--------
Why should anyone be surprised? They could have asked Obama for a loan. LOL
Reagan, Bush Sr, and the now infamous W have all been big spenders adding trillions to our national debt. The only break from the GOP fiscal disasters was during the Clinton years. For the past 100 years, Democrats have been cleaning up after Republican administrations.

How is that everyone who visits this site is a socialist democrat. I have repeatedly read this site and the vitriol I see from the left is damaging to this country.
Apparently, those of you like higher taxes, slower services, less curiosity, and more regulations.
Vote McCain.

R.E. HuntingMoose: How can the Dems give us Socialism when your party and Buffoon Bush just nationalized everything but your outhouse? And I'll bet he's filed an eminate domain action to get that! Stick to hunting and field dressing Moose and leave the politics to someone with a working brain.

Dear averagejoe: Perhaps you haven't noticed but this latest economic fiasco makes two great depressions in only 79 years both complements of republican fisco stupidity. The only way you can cut taxes for the fatcats, triple the national debt and export jobs to everywhere but america plus wage war with everybody except your mother in law is to bankrupt your own grandchildren and their grandchildren and theirs! Taxes is how you pay today for what you spend today. That's how joe the plumber does it!
Vote Obama 2008-2012

It is strange to see the GOP taking credit they claim they are fisical conervative did they not save any money, they talk of lowing taxes that is how they always desive the American people when it comes to elections and when they got elected they end up spending like the CEO's in wall street then at the end they end up putting the taxes up Reagan did it Bush senior did the same and Senator John Mccain is doing the same now, one question for John Mccain where were u when President Bush was spending like an old drunking captain you did not stop it instead you voted for his spending, as for socialism when Sarah Palin took money from oil company and distribute it to her fellow Alaskan was that socialism or redistribution of wealth, when the goverment gave the rebet cheaques John Mccain would have said to his supporters to send the money back to the treasury because it is part of socialism. Senator is building school for people to learn socialistic, is given health care to your citizens socialistic, is investing in renewable energ socialistic, is providing social security for your citizens socialistic, is fixing the Americain transport system which is near collaps socialistic if then when all this is done stop using it benefits. I called this hypocrisy

Quote from HuntingMoose: "WHEN OBAMA TURNS THIS COUNTRY TOWARDS SOCIALISM, AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL LOOSE ONE OF THEIR MOST SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS: CARING FOR OTHERS"
I take offense to this statement. Caring for others? I guess those rich executives on Wall Street deeply care about the rest of us. I guess our insistence on shoving our "values" down the throats of others is what makes us holy, instead of letting our example be what attracts others to our faith.
What has deeply hurt America for the past 30 years is the attempt of Christian fundamentalists to *legislate morality*. I'm actually ashamed at times to be an evangelical Christian, knowing that many evangelical organizations are busier trying to change the laws to their favor rather than loving and helping out their neighbor (Mat: 25:31-46).
America has always been a mix of capitalism and socialism. Thank God we are not 100% market driven by the greedy capitalists in this country who go by their own axiom, "whoever has the gold, rules."
