Axelrod: Hillary Won't Be a 'Potted Plant'
November 23, 2008 10:19 AM
President-elect Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY., have had some "great discussions" about her role in Obama's cabinet, incoming White House senior adviser David Axelrod told me today on "This Week."
But make no mistake: Obama is in charge of policy, he said.
"People have to understand one thing," Axelrod said, "One person is going to be in charge of policy and that is going to be Obama and he is going to assemble a group of talented people to tackle that problem...he is assembling the best possible team to move this country forward, but he will set the direction."
However Axelrod said Clinton and the other cabinet secretaries will be "partners" with Obama.
"He is someone who invites a strong opinions. He enjoys that he thinks that’s an important element of leadership," Axelrod said.
"They are not going to be potted plants in their departments, they are going to be partners and I’m sure that is the message he has given them in their discussions."

It seems that Mr. Obama only dare to hire experienced people and not one with judgement, the one quality he has claimed he has.

Good job ...............He is doing the right thing and I sure hope it proves a great success for all of them.

Yes, yes, yes, our Greatest Leader is in charge. He can take all credits he wants - no problem at all - like he did after Lugar's hard work for more than 20 years.
Hillary will do what she see fit for the best interest of the country. She will bring stability and reassurance to the Market even as an SOS. That's good enough for me - and for you. If our Smartest Leader thinks and wants you to believe it's his policy. So be it.

Hear, hear! We voted for him to take this country in a new direction. He's choosing strong, intelligent people who are not afraid of expressing their opinions. He doesn't want yes men and women. I think we should trust him to do the job we have hired him to do.

At least, Hillary is holding haft of the democrat population. This decision will create a stronger base for Obama to execute his plans.
One has experience, the other offers good judgment and execution. Both of them have ideals to serve the country. I am sure, if there is any differences, they are intelligent enough to work together for a common purpose.

pmp2008,
Who do you think has good judgment? Hillary, I suppose since Pres 0bama has none other than beneficial to himself.
Experience? I suppose you mean it's Hillary also.
So one an other is one after all.

When are we as americans going to accept resonsibility for our share of auto industry and the ecomony in general. If we would have been buying more fuel efficient cars, detroit would have had to build them. We spend too much time blaming other and not enough time to help fix these problems. I see a country that wants to abdicates problems to others and not fix them ourselves.

Good judgment amounts to appointing experienced people; also good manager amounts to being in charge of what the more experienced or shall I say appropriately experienced people do for you. A leader must choose the right people. It has never been different in the past and will not in future. There is only one President or a Leader. What a bunch of stupid arguments I have read here.

Well.
Imagine Hillary and Bill happily playing second fiddle!
Trust me on this: If they get their dirty selves in that cabinet, they will find a way to make Obama second fiddle - perhaps as sweet revenge for Obama taking it away from them.
But if BO has hit on an approach to make the IRS-untouched Bill disclose the source of his funding ...

OBAMA SAID HE WANTED TO CHANGE WASHINGTON ,INSTEAD HE HAS EMPLOYED WASHINGTON THATS NOT CHANGE OBAMA .

I don't think either of them is that stupid. Obama can get rid of her at will, then she'd be out of a job. I think she will do a superb job.

They will be like batman and Robin only riding in a much more fuel efficient automobile. Seriously, Hillary is a stellar pick and Obama has his game on at this juncture. The Country may be in a mess, but its starting to look like a new day is dawning!

Hillary Rocks!!!!!!!!
She will be President next time, hands down. Obimbo doesn't know his head from his ass. Go Hillary Go Hillary Love the Clintons!!! :o)

Obama stated that he is going to be a President for all who supported and does not support him still, so I have no problem with the dissenting views because it doesn't change the outcome.
What I find surprising throughout the campaign is how little Americans regard education and intelligence. The media in general and most of the anchors could do with a lot more of both.
Why doesn't anyone have a problem with George Bush and his performance throughout this crisis and especially now. Has he AWOL? and no one seems to care. The transition period was required to allow the president-elect to get ready, not govern while the sitting president sleeps. Don't worry about the Cabinet picks, the change we can believe in is our new president, and its definitely the change we need from George Bush. Don't get it twisted!!!

Dennis Blair being considered for DNI is a travesty. If Obama means what he says about ethics in high places, Blair is not the guy. He was on the Head of the Institute for Defense Analyses while DOD had told it to study F-22. Blair didnt recuse himself despite having a conflict of interest. He resigned! This is change???

BHO is telling his supporters that he is not stupid like his supporters and to run the country you need experienced hands and not sexy look with the empty 'Change' message.

It amazes me how illiterate people sound who criticize our next President. Could that be the determining factor between being a Democrat and a Republican? Yes. I believe it is. Ignorance, stupidity and a lack of formal education lead to the GOP.

Obama is the potted plant. Just water him and add fertilizer occasionally. And, he will just sit back and delegate!
That is what he is trained to do! :)

I do not want as Secretary of State someone who cannot discern the difference between being under sniper fire and a friendly welcome. I am appalled, and I was a Hillary supporter until this story came to light. Obama, we deserve better than the self-serving Clintonistas.

The Clintons are capable people without all of the manipulation by media, surragates, and old timers.
I think the Clinton appointment was a bargning chip to get the support that the Obama campaign was convienced it needed to win. To really be "CHANG", if the Clinton's chose not to be involved they should have been left alone and the Obama campaign should have taken the risk. I think they would have been suprised.
If the truth was faced, Obama started to move up with women and the working man's voters before the Clinton drama.
this has the over tones of "calling in favors".
With the push of the media and the oldtimers there was no trust that the new guy was capable of doing the job.
This is the unspoken evidence of the insidius racism in our country. AND THIS IS NOT THE RACE CARD.

FYI allknowingdude,
Formal education is for the most part a boring system of brainwashing by pseudo intellectuals called professors!
Most people go through the ritual to get the piece of paper that buys them entrance to their dream job - at least it used to!
It would appear that most bloggers, liberal or conservative, have not gone through the process! :)

Given the two choices, I'm still glad I voted for Obama. But he is getting off to a very bad start.
The primary reason I supported him was that he was acceptable and Hillary wasn't. It seems that the only change coming from Obama is the name of the prez.
