Governor on California Tax Hike Plan: 'I Hate Taxes'
November 16, 2008 8:50 AM
In an interview Sunday on This Week, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger argued that like his state, which is facing a runaway deficit of nearly $28 billion, industries and governments must cut back.
"Anyone that wants to go and think that they don't have to shift down make changes, if it is states, if it is local government, if it is the auto industry or any other industry as far as that goes, they're living in a dream world or in a fantasy world," Schwarzenegger said.
"We’ve got to find ways to cut down because there's not much money around now -- it's a different world," he said.
The anti-tax California Governor has proposed more than $10 billion in spending cuts and $14 billion in tax increases, including a "temporary" 1 1/2-cent increase in the sales tax -- which critics say could further curtail spiraling consumer spending.
But Schwarzenegger suggested his states' fiscal problems trump conservative ideology against taxes.
"It is very hard when you have to increase taxes," Schwarzenegger said. "I don't want to do it. I hate taxes, I hate the word taxes...But there's certain times when you have to forget about the ideology and all of those things and fix problems."

Perhaps he should have thought about that before allowing his state legislature to spend them into this mess.

How can anyone in California take Arnold serious or at his word! First he claims to be Governor for the People, biggest lie ever told! If he was the Governor for the People, first he would respect the Peoples Vote against "Gay Marriage" and instead of calling on Judges to overturn the "WILL OF THE PEOPLE"! All the Gay's throwing a tantrum because they tried to get the People's support and the People spoke out against! See no one wants you to have the title of Married because they believe "Marriage is between Man and Woman or Husband and Wife!" Now folks are all for you having something but Not the term Married! If you can respect that, then just may be People across America may just start respecting YOU!

One of your people on the round table
stated that food stamps work. They do not. Have these people never been to the
grocery store and watched what food stamps are used for? I have seen them
used for packaged meals, sodas and other things not necessary. For the price of packaged meals, they could buy
fresh foods and get more for the dollar. Also it makes the average American mad to see these people use food stamps and put these purchases in
vehicles better than they can afford to buy. Foods stamps work? If I may borrow the phrase, "give me a break."
