Obama Weighs in on Lieberman
November 10, 2008 6:01 PM
President-elect Barack Obama has told Democratic Leader, Harry Reid, that he wants Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman to stay in the Senate Democratic caucus, according to a Senate Democratic leadership source.
Obama delivered the message in a phone call to Reid last week.
The Lieberman matter will be voted on when Senate Democrats caucus next week.
--George Stephanopoulos
UPDATE: I asked Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs if Obama thinks Lieberman should retain his committee chairmanship.
Gibbs told me, "We aren't going to referee decisions about who should or should not be a committee chair. President-elect Obama looks forward to working with any one of any party to move the country forward. We'd be happy to have Sen. Lieberman caucus with the Democrats. We don't hold any grudges."

Obama is being Fair, but to the Democratic Party...
1. Joe Lieberman was Jockeying McCain for the VP Slot...
2. John McCain wanted Joe Lieberman as his VP, but his GOP Surrogates said No and McCain decided to select, the Floating Bubble...
Sarah Plain, "The Yukon EarMarks Queen"
3. Lieberman made it, his Business and Pleasure to Demean then Senator Obama and the Democratic Party...
There is No Way Hell or in Heaven, that Joe Lieberman should be a [Democrat...Period.
The Republican Party wants his Ugly Trollish Looking A!!...
Let them have this [Troll] !!!
He could only be a Thorn in the Side of the Democratic Party, as well as the Obama Administration, in what they are trying to Accomplish.
The Democrats don't Really Need him...Anyway.
its not often mentioned in the News, but there are Several Moderate or Independent Republicans that oftentimes Vote on Democratic Policies anyway.
Like Female Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski, who should've been McCain's Running Mate, but she's a "Moderate Republican" the "Evangelicals" would Scorn her !!!
Yes Sir, Joe Lieberman, you should opt out an go where you belong...
The Republican Party !!!
That would be the Most Honorable thing, your Dis-Honorable A!! could do at this point.
You Nailed yourself to the wall, Now deal with the Shame & Pain !!

I think those that want to get back at Joe needs to rest. Obama is right stop the election stuff. We have serious problems that need to be solved and having people kicked off is not the way we solve problems.

Good for Obama. That is the right call. He does vote Demo most the time anyway, so keep him for that. If he's kicked out, he'd be swept up like manna from the Repo's and then he'd vote Repo because he has no loyalties anyway. He's Joe (out for myself), just like that plummer!!
Posted by: Phyllis | Nov 10, 2008 7:11:59 PM
Lieberman must publicly apologize to President Elect Obama. The insult of Joe as to Obama putting his campaign before his contury is outrageous. His insult was public so should be his apology. Otherwise, he is a coward and really a small man.

I just think this shows Obama is truly committed to working on tough issues in a bipartisan way...even with a traitor!
Posted by: karae62 | Nov 10, 2008 7:12:53 PM
Forgive and forget. If Lieberman should get kicked out of the Democratic party for campaigning against Obama, then maybe the same could be said for Hillary? It's a fine line. Obama is willing to put politics aside in order to get things done.

When did Hillary campaign against Obama?

HAHAH HEHEH… this is great… looks like BO is showing the Senate who is in charge….. I'd like to hear what that ole loudmouth Schumer is saying about this…..

George S...I like the way you used the word "transparent" because your bitterness wouldn't allow you to type the word "smart". Maybe you're not as "opaque" as your posts would suggest.

Obama is a true class act. We are lucky to have him as president.

Leiberman is an Independent who votes primarily on Democratic issues. This isn't about who plays well with others -it is about getting the important measures passed. It makes no sense strategically to alienate Leiberman - it goes against everything Obama stands for. Put it this way - would I vote for Leiberman now? Probably not BUT if it means getting certain bills passed vs punishing him for going against the Dems.... well, I'd prefer to have the bills passed, wouldn't you?
Posted by: arj | Nov 10, 2008 7:14:20 PM
While Mr. Leiberman's actions are a (major) cause for concern, having a president who will overlook past political transgressions is necessary after so many yeaes of polarization.

Posted by, Manuel: "The reason he is keeping him around is to not anger the jew donors. joe was once a VP choice. that means he has a bunch of jew support and dollars behind him. jews want him around to sway policy in isreals favor".

Joe Lieberman did not have that much Pull or Favor in the jewish Realm, as he Thought, because Florida, California, Chicago & New York sent his A!! a resounding Message....
Fear Mongering does'nt Injest well and certainly does'nt Dijest well either.
So Long Joe....
Democrats Generally Vote..Democratic
Especially considering the Alternatives...

Thought Process behing Joe liberman backing Mcain has nothing to do with his conscience. He sincerely believed he will get a prominent role in Mcain Administration if he gets elected. He was eyeing for a vp position but didnt expect Rush Limbaugh and co to oppose him.Now that MCAIN is lost , he has to make a choice whether to caucus with democratic caucus or republican caucus.Either way he is going to be a mere rubber stamp .He himself has to blame for the outcome.

What's that saying "keep your friends close but your enemies closer?
Posted by: Jwench | Nov 10, 2008 7:17:40 PM
That's what confidence in one's self does to you. First you select the guy who said you were not ready as your running mate. Then you did not banish Mrs. Clinton to Bosnia. Now this.
Man, I wish I could get a copy of everything you have, just a copy though.

I've supported Obama all along but perhaps it's past time that the Democrats showed the world that this country doesn't have a king. Lieberman's sympathies are with the Republicans. He campaigns for them, let him go sit with them and ask for the keys to the kingdom.

What does it say about a man who when his political butt was all but through, he called upon B.O. to come to his aid and quiet possibly safe his two faced career. Then that same man turns his back on his friend to support another. Just wonderin if we would all like to have friends like that.

I voted for this ticket,in 2000,and admired and respected Joe Lieberman greatly. Now,I'm disappointed and hurt that this rock-steady Dem would alter his course so radically, for his pal and the party. His actions speak louder than words! Very wrong and pathetically sad.

You Democrats are complete morons. First off Joe Liebermen is a liberal Democrat except on military affairs, he is far from being a Republician. The only difference is he is an honest Democrat. I wish he would come to the Republican side of the aisle. He deserves better then you bunch of KOOK-AID drinkers

Well my 2 cents. i agree with all of you that think what he did was at the very least disloyal. But, as men we sometimes have to do what our souls tell us. I agree also that he probably had higher asperations than just supporting mcsame, but when he was brushed aside for palin, that should have told him something.
