Valerie Jarrett for Senate?

November 09, 2008 12:43 PM

As rumors swirl over who will replace President-elect Barack Obama as the Senator from Illinois, a new report this morning claims Obama confidante and transition co-chair Valerie Jarrett is his choice for the job.

But when I asked Incoming White House Chief of Staff Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., about Jarrett this morning he said "She is a very, very dear friend, as you know, of the president-elect, and I don't think there's been any decision or any discussion that I've seen to that basis. She is a very dear friend of the president-elect and a valuable ally of his, not only prior to running for president, in his Senate life, and just personally for Michelle and Barack."

Who do you think should fill Obama's Senate seat?

Total nonsense and something dreamed up by a racist. Jesse Jackson is not a resident of the State of Illinois and therefore not eligible to be a senator of that state. Keep your racist, fear-mongering to yourself!

Actually it is Jesse Jackson Jr who has been listed as a possibility, and is a congressman from Illinois therefore a resident. It has also been said it is unlikely he will be picked.

Jesse Jackson III is the person that was mentioned.

What is so racist about nominating Jesse Jackson even though Al Sharptong and Jesse Jackson are the biggest race card players out there.

a qualified woman for the position would warm the hearts of women like myself that supported hillary and later mccain/palin.

it is time that women who represent 1/2 u.s population have representational governance in all branches of gov't.

I believe that President Elect Obama should select the person who would best serve the citizens of his home state as well as the citizens of the "World". The world has been "touched" by his election. As such, our newly elected President should always focus on the outcome of each decision as it affects our nation as well as the world. There are many things that "WE" must accomplish within a short period of eight years. So, whomever he surrounds himself with, they too, must realize the potential of positive or negative results in their decisions, actions and ideals. Whether it is Ms. Jarrett or Jesse Jackson III it is his decision, that we will embrace and support.

audrey i agree so far he has made wise choices. we must trust and be supportive regardless of partisan views. in this most delicate and ominous economic crisis we must all come together-for the sake of our beloved country.

a mccain supporter who is willing to listen, and be supportive.

Actually,

It's up to the Governor of the state to appoint the new senator.
He may informally have a talk with President-elect but it's a governotirial prerogative.

Sorry for my english. I'm french

Earth to Kool-aid drinkers. Obama does not get to pick who will replace him. That decision goes to the Governor of Ill.

Posted by: jjpglobal | Nov 10, 2008 7:26:51 PM

Actually, the rumor is that Jesse Jackson III would replace Obama, not Jesse Jackson Sr. And JJ3 is a totally different animal than his father. But if we're being honest, people are suggesting that Jesse Jackson would be recommended (not selected since the choice belongs to the Governor) by Obama because they feel a black candidate will be hostage to the black community. Look at this campaign: many of his staffers were white. Relax, and examine your own racism.
