Guide to Election Night: Six Early States to Watch
November 04, 2008 2:20 PM
Here are the six states to watch between 7pm and 8pm on Election Night:
Virginia and Indiana after the last polls close at 7pm, Ohio and North Carolina after 7:30pm, and then Pennsylvania and Florida after 8pm.
These are the canaries in the coal mine.
McCain campaign manager Rick Davis conceded on "This Week" that John McCain has to win five out of six of these states to have a viable path to the presidency.
He could get there by holding all of the Bush states -- Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina -- and losing Pennsylvania.
But he will then need to secure Nevada, Iowa, and Colorado and all the rest of the GOP safe seats later in the evening.
That puts him at 270.
Or, if McCain manages a long shot win in Pennsylvania, his possibilities open up.
He could then lose Iowa, New Mexico, and Colorado, and still win. Or, he could lose Indiana in that scenario and still win.
But if in these early states Obama holds on to Pennsylvania and wins just one more -- any of the other five -- only a John McCain miracle later in the evening can deny Obama the White House.

The man proceeds to list the reasons he doesn't agree with Obama's policies toward Iraq and instead is endorsing John McCain for president, "because he understands the fundamental truth, freedom is always worth the price."
The man then walks away from the camera, revealing he has a prosthetic left leg.

** Iraq is nothing but another Vietnam.. thats why John McCain is so obessed w/ winning there.. but why are we still there when Osama Bin Laden is in Afghanistan and Pakistan? what sense does it make to spend 10 billion in a country a month when they enjoy a surplus? is that in the best interest of America? No, not really when we don't have enough money to take care of issues at home. These war hungry people need to think of diplomacy, not forcing other nations to be like us. They don't want to be America so why force them?

I can't see the country pulling together if a person built on lies and broken promises wins. How can you trust & respect Obama!

During the election some have chosen to focus on this ephemeral called experience. Some have a static view of leadership that is rooted in the past. That is indeed of some value but only to the extent that it can meaningfully adjust to the dynamism of the present moment. Lessons from the past presidents Cliton and Bush jr. demonstrate this value. Clinton was dynamic Bush was static and the disaster in America is evidence of this fact. Now to McCain and Obama. McCain the experience candidate is stuck in the past... Obama the dynamic candidate is ably suited to engage the dynamic environment in which we find ourselves, as evidenced in the execution of his campaign and the handling of the economic crisis. Leadership is not about experience as it is about to the leader relates to people and not solely to the static elements of war, and material things.

republican_paulie...
So you think war is good beacuse it keeps people working? That is absoluty absurd, but im willing to bet you dont have a brother, sister, husband or father in the war. It must be a pretty good view from the cheap seats

Obama will be worse than Jimmy Carter!

Hillary supporters NOW it is pay back time. Pay this radical and his racist hate filled wife and preacher back with a vote for McCain and Palin in 2008 and then Hillary in 2012 !!! Its the right thing to do for your country and its payback to the MEDIA for shoving this Pied Piper down our throats. MSNBC needs to be shut down after this and that psycho Keith Olbermann committed to an asylum !!! Vote AGAINST No-BAMA and lets make Michelle REALLY MAD and push her back to her crime ridden city of Chicago !!! Say NO to OBAMA PELOSI REID AND BRAZILE!!!!

It's funny how the majority of posters are hate-filled racist Republicans trying to explain how they are right with no substance! Have at Republicans, because almost all the Democrats have already voted for a true leader of the people and are back to leading their lives. In fact it was your type of posts that drove me to the polls to vote early. HA! HA! HA! HA!
Posted by: sean | Nov 3, 2008 9:19:32 AM
At least we know what we are getting if Obama wins so no complaining from those that voted for him as he drives the country over the cliff.
Posted by: Tim | Nov 3, 2008 9:19:50 AM
You Republicans should stop wasting your time.
Republicans should not even bother voting.
IT'S OVER.
E_DAY - 1: ELECTORAL COLLEGE EV POLLS
Obama 353
McCain 185
No miracle can help McCain now.
McCain is toast.
Just try not to be very sore losers my friends and fellow prisoners.

My family is very close.
McCains tax plan will help the middle class more than Obama.
Now tell me what has Obama done, not talked about doing but has actually done>

* thats why people trust Obama Jane. They want someone new who hasn't been in Washington helping ruin our economy much like John McCain has... he hasn't held the people's interest in 26 years.. what makes you think he's going to start paying attention to people now? Just because John McCain is a POW doesn't mean he's capable of being a cool and calm president

** LOL how crazy do you sound? Chicago is still an American city that produces many jobs for American citizens... are you proclaiming Chicago isn't real America? Why are you people dissing American cities?

Yeah Jane,
I'll tell you what Obama has done. He beat the Clintons, something the Republican's couldn't do. He's put together one of the most effective and ingenious political campaigns in history. He's leading going into the last day before the election. It takes someone with vision and insight to do that. It takes someone who has the skills to manage this country going forward to do that.
Thats what he's done. As for the Republican ops whose job it is to post on all the blogs to create doubt and fear..... hasn't worked so far, at least not enough to turn it around for McCain. It's harder work for you guys now since you have to actually enter the code to post instead of doing the automated posting.
You guys need to be scared....very scared. Remove all firearms and sharp objects from your homes. Don't want to see you do harm to yourselves when you realize Wednesday morning that you have a Democratic president in the White House.
Posted by: Hey Jane | Nov 3, 2008 9:22:59 AM
Hey Tom, get some control fellow.
A democrat at his/her worse is better than a republican at his/her best.
Get used to it Tom, and others....
President Hussein Obama!
GoO and GoObama....................
and Jane, I don't know where you have been, but voting in 30 states has been underway for about a month..... it's called early voting.
With a Republican in the white house the USA as lost 760,000 jobs this year...folks, we can only go up....
With a Republican in the white house, my 401k is almost worthless....
With a republican in the white house, 4,190 dead Americans in Iraq...
With a republican in the white house, the worse attack on the country since the revolution...
With a republican in the white house, the economy tanking and the biggest bailout of republican "greedsters" in the history of this country...
Tom, you republicans have placed this country in a position where we can only go up. we are at the bottom of the barrel.
my prediction 354 EVs.....
Have a good day Republicans...
GO O....................

I tell you that the real conservatives in this country should endorse (quietly) Obama's campaign because he was raised through age 30 under 10 years of Kennedy/Johnson/Carter but 20 of Nixon/Ford/Reagan policies.
1. This shows that he prospered under relatively conservative policies.
2. He is the fruit of the "color blind" policies that were being pushed.
3. If elected, a lot the rationale for affirmative action and similar race-based quotas goes away because the system did work. He saw his opportunities and took them.
4. If he were a little more conservative (maybe a lot more), he would be the poster child of those folks.

* My mother voted for Hillary... and then did the right thing and voted for Obama on Friday... people know Republicans don't share the same ideals as Hillary supporters do... there won't be a lot of Hillary supporters switching over and you know it! lol its okay tomorrow will be a new day for America and after you see the changes that we did in America, you will support Obama. Just try getting over YOURSELF soon~

GOP trolls are out in numbers. I voted 2 weeks ago in Indiana. Worked the phones for Obama, he's leading in Indiana, our calls have him up by 5 points.
All you McSame's gonna get together and brew up some Jim Jones kool aid on Wednesday?

Jane - you ignorant sl&t. Obama doesn't see his mother because she is dead. Please vote for McCain. I don't want to share making history with people like you.
Posted by: mudge007 | Nov 3, 2008 9:26:38 AM
Georgie I have no clue how you summized this? Man on the street has a differing opinion. Obama who may be close will not win. The silent majority gets to speak Tuesday and guess what? Most will not vote for Obama.
Posted by: Jim Rod | Nov 3, 2008 9:27:17 AM
Tom Barringer...... Michelle Obama was writting the truth. And as far as you saying whites paid for her scholarship, so did her parents and black tax payers. We Africans deserve the same treatment as White Americans, after all we built this country on our sweat and BLOOD, no pay, slavery, and we are still not recongized for that. I Love America the same as any White American but I still see the racism even though it has gotten so much better but it is still very much alive. I understand where Michelle is coming from because I live in a mostly white neighborhood and my 4 children attend a mostly white schoool and I have had to get their teachers to change grades that were lower than they had recieved, this is the reason I keep their graded papers until report cards are releashed. I want my black children to have the same opportunities as the white children. I pray that one day I will not have to do this but until then I will push my children,( who 3 out of 4 are honor roll and 1 straight A honor roll), to be the best that they can and obey the law and the rules of society.
