Paterson Under Pressure to Give Kennedy Senate Seat
December 15, 2008 3:29 PM
Caroline Kennedy is seeking Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's New York Senate seat.
She has asked New York Gov. Paterson to appoint her to the seat. Top New York Democrats I have spoken with say it would be difficult, if not impossible, for the governor to say no.
But the Kennedy team isn't taking anything for granted, and the governor is emphasizing that he hasn't made the choice yet.
Here's why it might make sense for him to choose Kennedy, beyond her celebrity star-power:
She can raise an awful lot of money; Paterson himself will be on the ticket in 2010 and he will want a strong pick to get out the vote; and it gets him off the hook -- he won't have to pick among all of those other elected officials in New York.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is not commenting but her allies in New York have been very critical of this choice. It's no secret that she was very upset with Kennedy during the primaries. It hurt Clinton when Kennedy came out so publicly for Barack Obama.

Floating Caroline Kennedy to the Senate without Hillary's consent is an insult to her. No one worked more for Obama than Hillary and this is the thanks she gets. They stick the first major Obama endorser in her face.
What chutzpa

Caroline Kennedy is not qualified to be a U.S. Senator from New York but that’s not even a minor consideration. New York isn’t even a state, it’s nothing more than a political board game for liberal politicians and the Kennedy’s are simply using it to anoint a goddess. The political system in this country is a sham and has become an aberration that only serves the elitist class and other narcissistic film flam artists. It really doesn’t matter what any of us want or think we’ll be force fed whatever the ruling classes think we should eat. This once great Republic has become morally weak, pathetic and rotten in its core. The country urgently needs strong, intelligent, courageous and patriotic leaders to guide us out of this cesspool of incompetence, moral relativism and confusion lest we disappear into the abyss. Unfortunately, the probability of that occurring is near zero.

If Caroline Kennedy wants to be a senator, she needs to run for office instead of trading on a family name to have it handed to her.

NY has a governor we didn't vote for about to appoint a Senator we won't get to vote for. Kennedy's qualifcations seems to be she is a Kennedy and she can raise lots of money. This is a back door attempt at keeping a Kennedy in the senate once Ted leaves. Caroline was never interested in running for office - but suddenly wants the job when there is no work involved in earning it. I would also like to be the senator from NY. Please consider me.

Haven't we had enough Kennedys in our political system? I am sick of names getting people political positions that would have never gotten on their own.
Ted Kennedy crashes his car while drunk and kills a woman, which he doesn't report for 11 hours. This for whatever reason is no hinderance on his social life.
John F Kennedy had several good legacies, but liberal history writers have often forgotten his bad legacies- the cuban missile crisis, Vietnam, his lukewarm support of civil rights up until the election.
History gives JFK credit for "getting America through the cuban missile crisis", but it usually forgets to mention that he brought us into the crisis, also. He promised cuban rebels air support against castro and then he chickened out. As a result, thousands of brave cubans were slaughtered and Russia was emboldened enough to move their missiles 90 miles off of our shores(they just saw JFK back down from a tin-pot dictator).
JFK "lead us through" by pulling America's missiles out of turkey, only weakening our position in the world.
He then took America into Vietnam, which was a noble cause, but he had neither the stomach nor the skills to navigate America successfully. No one can argue that Vietnam didn't go very well.

I smell Obama's hands all over this one. Way to stab Hillary in the back all over again.
Posted by: Marnie | Dec 16, 2008 10:40:43 AM
Let's see...she can raise a lot of money and she can kiss Obama's ass. That's about it. Oh, yeah, and she can stick a knife into Hillary's back. That about summarizes her qualifications.

I wish my first job would have been a senator. She is a 50 year old pampered rich girl who has never held a real job.I know Let's make her president, next election. you need less experience for that position and after all her dad was president 40 years ago that makes her more than qualified.
Posted by: stan | Dec 16, 2008 11:00:11 AM
I don't think she is qualified for a senate seat. I don't think she should be put in because she is a Kennedy. Put someone that's qualified regardless of name. We need good qualities and workers for our country. Enough of this "I'll rub your back if you will rub mine".....Let her campaign for funds if she wants to but give them to the poor people....

Give her the damn job!!!!

I wrote to Governor Paterson a week ago urging him not to do such an abhorrent thing.
New York State is full of people who have actually worked to accomplish something in their lives, whether in politics or some other sphere. Designating the junior senate seat from New York as an official sinecure for the well-connected kin of famous politicians is a shoe thrown at the head every one of the Governor's constitutents who does not have famous last names.
But perhaps he doesn't recognize the inherent offensiveness of political nepotism, coming from a "political family" himself.

Hillary was appointed initially. She was not even a resident of NY prior to that. She had no previous elected-office experience. How is this any different?

I don't know why people even write in these comments. Most Americans know that it doesn't matter what we think or what we want. Politics has taken over they rule us it is their wishes that are considered before ours and they always win. We are only aboard to pick up the bill, if we weren't here to supply the money we would be eliminated in all aspects of being heard in our own country. As far as I have seen so far all politics is evil, decietful, under handedness, liars, theives you know the kind of people in prisons, the only difference is people in prisons don't have our taxpayers money to advance their careers.

With the country is a recession and New York State's enormous deficit we need someone with experience who is familiar with the entire state and it's economic problems not just someone with a famous name who's a good fund raiser. So what if she wants the job, that does not mean she is capable of doing it.

Lepet,
After you liberals crucified Palin, you got b@alls to ask that....LOL
Clinton wanted to claim spousal expereince then and even during the primaries. Kennedy has done a lot with charities and other philanthropic pursuits, but she is not qualified for a US Senate seat. Im sure its happened before, I think there have been a couple of cases where a spouse has completed a term for a sitting senator/representative.
But on the merits of no elected expereince & not winning an election to get the seat, NO...she is not qualified.

Uncle Teddy is pushing to keep the Kennedy political dynasty going and the Dems will began grooming her to become the first female president after Obama in 8 years. Just as Obmana made history just 40 years after MLK. It will be Caroline just 53 years after we saw her as a little girl at her father's funeral. Look for another history making election and another Acorn fiasco.

I WISH TO BE CONSIDERED! I WANNA BE A SENATOR!! PLEASE PLEASE DADDY ... WHY CAN'T I RIDE THE HORSIE MR. PATTERSON? Take your crab laced carpet bagging ass back to where u came from Caroline ... little baby girl Caroline. She came to Buffalo and Rochester this week and REFUSED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS FROM THE MEDIA OUTSIDE each venue. Sound like somebody she just coached into STEALING the White House? She is an elitist ... SNOB and relatively simple woman who WILL NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS when asked. Gee, Sarah Palin was hammered by the media for being honest and showing her qualifications. Caroline won't BECAUSE SHE HAS NONE. She will only comment to programmed reporters who ask the 'tough' questions that she can answer without a teleprompter like; Does the governor see you clearly? Does your uncle like to take you for late nite drives offer you booze? Does your delusional mind wander into consiousness every now and again?
Good Grief ... I am taking the forty or so jobs I have proudly provided for twenty plus years here and getting the hell out of this cesspool called NY state. Got an IDEA ... CHARLIE MANSON would make a great community organizer in NYC or Chicago, I heard he really fixed the West coast nice like.

Disturbing point that the rating hungry media focus on and insist that the public does, too -- and that is wrong:
"She can raise an awful lot of money; Paterson himself will be on the ticket in 2010 and he will want a strong pick to get out the vote; and it gets him off the hook -- he won't have to pick among all of those other elected officials in New York.
The cycle must be broken... this non-campaign is looking more and more like a campaign...

Maybe it would be a good idea if Hillary changes her mind and stays in the Senate so that Caroline Kennedy's wild ambitions would halt and she can't be a Senator. That would be payback for her not supporting Hillary. I've lost my respect for the Kennedys. They are now passe!
Posted by: Swissdiver | Dec 22, 2008 12:26:41 AM
Makes you wonder how they Dems had the nerve to question Palin's qualifications. This one's only accomplishment was being born into the Kennedy family.

Besides Caroline Kennedy asking about the position, isn't Mr. Cumo? Who is married to one of Robert Kennendy's daughters?
Posted by: Cindy Briggs | Dec 22, 2008 3:38:42 PM
Talk about corruption!! Who cares if she's a Kennedy?? Since when do they put their pants on any differently than the rest of us? That's what really pisses me off. Give the job to the most deserving individual!! I haven't even seen her face in 20 yrs!
Posted by: blatzrox | Dec 23, 2008 6:38:23 PM
The appointment oF Caroline Kennedy to the Senate would be so anti-democratic as to call into question the political integrity of Governor Patterson.
