Exclusive: Obama's Blago Report: Only One Rahm Call to Governor
December 21, 2008 9:26 AM
Sources tell me that the Obama team's review of contacts with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will show that Rahm Emanuel had only one phone conversation with Blagojevich.
The contact, described as a "pro-forma" courtesy call, came as Emanuel was named Chief of Staff for Obama. Most of the discussion concerned Emanuel's Congressional seat (which had previously been held by Blagojevich), with only a "passing reference" to the Senate vacancy, according to these sources. No deal for the Senate vacancy was discussed.
Speculation in Washington and Chicago has been swirling for a week now over what the Obama team’s report would find. Until now, the contents of that report have been kept sealed, at the request of the U.S. Attorney’s office. Last Wednesday, Obama said he found it “a little bit frustrating” that the report had not yet been released.
The sources add that the report will show Emanuel also had four phone calls with Blagojevich Chief of Staff John Harris. During those conversations, the Senate seat was discussed. The pros and cons of various candidates were reviewed, and the sources say that Emanuel repeatedly reminded Harris that Blagojevich should focus on the message the pick would send about the governor and his administration.
Sources also confirm that Emanuel made the case for picking Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett during at least one of the conversations. In the course of that conversation, Harris asked if in return for picking Jarrett, "all we get is appreciation, right?" "Right," Emanuel responded.
Bottom line: these sources say that Obama's report, which is expected to be released this week, will confirm what Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald and President-Elect Obama have said -- and what Governor Blagojevich clearly believed: that Obama officials were not open to any kind of deal for the Obama Senate seat.

James - perhaps it's just that they're soooooo busy putting out fires, and working more than ANY incoming administration due to the current situation, that they got their wires crossed? The amateur is leaving.

Not at all, this case is still going forward as well as the Rezko case. We also have Bill Richardson being arraigned for similar pay for play politics. Then of course there is Charlie Rangle who has also shown he is on the take. We also have Terence Bean who was a major player in the Obama fundraising efforts who is the owner of several Gay Porn studios. The birth certificate issue is still before the supreme court. The death of Donald Young is still being investigated in Chicago. Larry Sinclair might still come by to "service" Mr. Obama.
So no, this is just the first salvo in what will be a very long, very tough, four years. We simply elected a man who has a very muddy background. Sooner or later one of these issues will pop up. And believe me, the list I put together is not all inclusive. There are more.

Our of curiosity where were you people during the Bush years? They can out spies and what do you do? Demonize the spy. This is ALL about some overload on partisan.

Take a deep breath. Every person participating in this better pray that Obama succeeds. Our lives depend on it. And it is our responsibility to pick up a shovel find ways to cooperate in rebuilding our nations ethics, reputation and operational moral mores. The past will be history if enough people now, in a thoughtful, positive way, pay attention and make sure transparency reveals each step in our country's recovery from "sleeping at the wheel." We're in a ditch; help make it right through action, not criticism. That is mainstream, not "left" or "right", as amateur muckrakers and media like to jargon. This is not a game, folks. Stop acting like it is!

Alena,
Nice comment, you attack the current administration and then ask that we all leave the partisanship at home. That is not the way to end the politics of personal destruction. In fact, you have just given the green light to those who feel compelled to attack Obama. Why should Democrats get to attack Republicans and Republicans not have that same right to return the attack?
Mr. Obama has to understand that he will need to control his supporters if he has any chance to foster a "loyal opposition" instead of an opposition that is out for the same blood they have seen extracted from them.

Watergate II? Wow, you people either aren't paying attention or you're not very bright. Take your pick.

Some people on all sides of the political spectrum seem to be delusional. They are swimming in the air.

No t sure if this adds up. What of the earlier reports that Emanuel was calling Blago daily for a period after the election? Nothing criminal here, but there remains unanswered questions about the extent of the Obama-Blago contact.

Fred? The difference? The "current" administration has been attacked on the sorry job they did. Obama? You guys are foaming at the mouth wishing for bad. Give him a chance. I know an awful lot of people hurting right now. It's best for all of us if he's successful? And if you really want to nit-pick? Did you guys sleep thru the Clinton years? I recall him getting plenty of picking.

What happened to all that talk about getting behind the president and putting aside the non partisan stuff?
I could understand if there was some real evidecne but at this point there is just speculation there will be some evidence at some point.
Reminds me of the speculation about Bill Ayers.

This stuff is so funny! You can't make this up :) The Obamanites don't want to admit that the wool was pulled over their eyes, and the rest? Well ... we get to work on our 'I told you so dance' :)
The coming depression is going to be sooo much fun with him!

Emanuel Rahm looks like a crook to me. Of course he is from Illinois and most politicians there are crooks.

Whether good or bad, you're better off facing it and getting it over with. making nice and pretending everything is okay is what has been done continually for the last 8 years and we can all see exactly where it has gotten us.

The United States stands on the bring of destruction. For the last 78 years our government has in essence bought our votes through an ever expanding social welfare system and special interest giveeaways that has led our nation to bankruptcy. Our debt, in pursuit of these ineffectual programs and politics as usual, has left us 12 trillion in the hole. The interest every year on this debt is nearly 500 billion dollars. Mandates made as far back as FDR continue to limit the options each subsequent administration has at its disposal to address the problems we face.
Now, when we are near the precipise we elect a man that wants to recreate the so called "great society" that got us into these failed policies in the first place. This will not end well. Our nation would be much better off if Mr. Obama was removed by scandal. If not this one then any of the others that are lurking out there. We cannot afford another four years of ever expanding government while our politicians continue to engage in pay for play politics. Mr. Obama has already shown that he is part of that corrupt culture even if he is cleared in this particular case.
We need someone who is truly committed to reform, not someone who uses change simpy as a campaign slogan.

I have never seen a President before entering office to have so much scandal facing him and his people. I think we are in trouble in this country. We elected the wrong man. Should have elected someone else to run as a democrat. Hillary would have been better. John Edwards would have been a good choice if he could keep his zipper zipped up.

You are sick, sick sick sick. You do not know what you are talking about.
Posted by: barefootboy | Dec 21, 2008 10:37:02 AM
Alena, that was my point. You continue to attack those you disagree with and then ask that we not attack Mr. Obama. Do you really believe this is an effective strategy?
If Mr. Obama was a real leader like Ronald Reagan or Dwight Eisenhower, he would understand that you need everyone committed to fixing the problems our nation faces. However, Mr. Obama has not once told his supporters like you to back off. In fact, he seems to be encouraging people like you to attack president Bush and Governor Palin and others in the opposition. This is just stupid politics on his part and you are one of the foor soldiers in that soon to be failed approach.
This issue is a proxy for that self chosen war that Mr. Obama seems so intent on creating.

As I recall James we were running at a surplus under the Clinton years and most of us were working. What has happened the last 8 years is not what the founding fathers has had in mine. What has happened the last 20 years a class society run by the rich ceos is not what I want
If it means a bit of socialism so be it. The Greedy Wall Street people show they have NO trouble with socialism , nor Sarah Palin and the Alaskans that get their share of the till everyyear.
IF this is capitalism count me out

It's unfortunate there are so many who obviously are puppet's of the two individuals most inclined to bring down a duly elected government of the United States, before it even takes office. Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and of course the others who mimic these idiots on the daily right wing radical talk shows. From the moment this Blagojevich story broke, Limbaugh and Hannity within the hour had become judge, jury and executioner and proceeded to fan speculation into a raging inferno totally without a single fact other than what had already been released to the media by the officials investigating. It would be a revelation if constructive analysis were to be offered up by these idiots for a change, however that would defeat Rupert and James Murdoch's (the liberals who own FOX and related radio stations), purpose. They have found and are capitalizing on a niche market all the way to their banks. I love the hypocrisy. But of course, if they were to report just the facts, instead of the spin and lies and speculation, they would become just another mundane news source which certainly wouldn't help the Murdoch's bottom line.

Where is the proof that Obama is a "major liar"?
-----------------------------
Obama is from Chicago. Name one politician from this city who is not a "major liar". Please....pretty please...
Any name you put out there will be researched and a dozen links to improper use of government trust will be provided, IE: lying.
