How can we ever forget Condoleeza Rice'S testimony before Congress after 9/11 when she was asked about the briefings in eary August of 2001 about the intel that "Osama Bin Laden was bragging that they were going to hijack planes and fly them into tall buildings". Her response was that they didn't do anything because the intel was not specific enough, because it didn't give dates and flight numbers and subsequently the World Trade Center was destroyed. Immediately after 9/11, all airplane flight doors had locks installed so that, in the future, no-one could get into the cockpit to "fly planes into tall buildings" Had she and others acted in time more than three thousand people would not have perished; but in spite of her inaction she was shortly thereafter awarded the "Medal of Freedom". What a shame!

I am delighted these two outstanding women already have a strong relationship, we need everyone working together to address the serious problems we face and those we share with our friends around the world.

I agree with Kim, I also appreciate women celebrating the strengths of other women--it does not happen often enough.

I just love these arm chair quarterbacks who second and third guess the people who actually have to make hard decisions based on the best possible information our intelligence has at the time. You guys sound SO intelligent now after the fact. The unsaid truth is Condi made it possible for Barack to be elected.

Condi's Blackness could NOT be denied as was possible with the very light-skinned Colin Power.

She forced enough Americans to notice and choose between their racism and reality. She performed well enough that enough Americans became comfortable seeing an African American at the top of the power structure.

AND She was the VERY FIRST CLEARLY indisputable, very dark skinned, African American in such a position.

So comfortable, that in many ways she became boring -- whether you agree with her agenda or not is not relavent to this point.

It's not that she succeeded or failed, was left or right wing, but that she fulfilled the duties of the job in a way that no sensible person could interpret in a color-conscious way, and in doing so, she helped advance racial equality in the deep fundamental way that was going to be nec. for Obama to win the Presidency.

Of course there are many other reasons, but merely by being who she is, she helped, and it's clear she is very happy with the result. So cut her some slack.
