Ten Things David Gregory Needs to Know

December 07, 2008 10:00 AM

Abc_3_gregory_stephanopoulos_081207 10.)  Monday night is the new Saturday

9.)  Saturday Night Live is a pretty cool wake-up call

8.)  Dennis Kucinich is a biter

7.)  You'll never have to anchor another car chase -- ever

6.)  No more OJ stories either

5.)  Remember to wink at the camera when you say "stimulus package"

4.)  Never let Chuck Todd drive you to work

3.)  Don't sit Doris Kearns Goodwin next to David Broder.  Long story

2.)  Rapping with Karl Rove is a guaranteed bump during sweeps

1.)  Most important, don't forget we move our clocks back next Sunday.

Seriously, David, you're about to get one of the best jobs in journalism.

Good luck (but not too much).

David Gregory is a big disappointment! I can still see him dancing with Karl Rove and it still sickens me! No more MTP for us, it's been bad enough putting up with Tom Brokaw! No wonder NBC is sinking with these kinds of decisions.

MTP was relevant once. Not anymore, and it's been that way for a long, long time.

David Gregory is terrified of being called a liberal by the right.

He's one of most incredibly bland and boring questioners in the news business.

He make Larry King look like he's on steroids.

Posted by: David | Dec 7, 2008 12:39:28 PM

"makes"

Now Sarah Palin can go on MTP without fear of being asked hard questions.

Posted by: David | Dec 7, 2008 12:44:03 PM

"Dennis Kucinich is a biter"

Surely this is not another gratuitous corporate news cheap shot at Kucinich--the only Congressman with the moral courage to take his oath of office seriously in filing overwhelmingly justified Articles of Impeachment against both Bush and Cheney.

Gregory has proven himself a neocon hack, whose cavorting with war criminal Rove was both musically and morally repugnant.

David Gregory has the potential to do the job well and showed some glimpses of the ability when he suddenly realized he was a journalist at White House press briefings.

We'll see how he does as both Democrats and Republicans in Washington need policing by a thoughtful Press that is interested in the truth, rather than reporting talking points.

David Gregory plainly doesn't dye his hair, he doesn't smear himself in fake tan lotion and - above all - he possesses a level of gravitas seldom found in his contemporaries on other channels. I wish him well in his Sunday endeavours. To be sure, he has a tough act to follow. But follow it he will and is most certainly destined to be around for many years to come as a truly fair and balanced commentator.

David Gregory is just a suit and haircut.

Posted by: The Omen | Dec 7, 2008 1:43:08 PM

David Gregory is one of the most biased and rudest journalist. It isn't in him to be fair. Just the facts, Sir, that's all we want.

Posted by: jonnei36 | Dec 7, 2008 2:14:28 PM

I have no respect for David Gregory, so I won't be watching.

Posted by: Clint | Dec 7, 2008 2:26:26 PM

I saw on one of the tabloid newspaper yesterday in a supermarket stand. Its headline reads "Hillary tells Obama she will divorce Bill if he offers her Secretary of State". The bias of journalism for Mr. Obama has just been incredibly gut wrenching. No more true journalists anymore, just pundits and opinionated characters.

Posted by: young_voter | Dec 7, 2008 2:58:29 PM

Gregory is a horrible choice! We demand Chuck Todd!!!!!!!

Posted by: Bill | Dec 7, 2008 3:08:03 PM

"young_voter," if you're using tabloids as a way to gauge journalism's quality, it's clear you aren't smart enough to even post comments on a blog, much less critique journalism. Go watch MTV or something.

I would have picked Andrea Mitchell. She's the best reporter on the network. Love Chuck Todd, but he's an analyst. I don't think I've ever see him do an interview.

Posted by: dcj | Dec 7, 2008 4:32:39 PM

Gotta love David Gregory. Guess some just don't get his sense of humor. Rock on Dave.

Posted by: Yankee | Dec 7, 2008 4:49:32 PM

The jury is out on David Gregory. All too often he sounds like a neo con. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Posted by: Herb Gray | Dec 7, 2008 4:55:01 PM

Today was the last day that I will watch MTP.

Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell, Gwen Ifill, Eugene Robinson would have all been a better choice than Gregory!

Everyone should email NBC and tell them what we really think and then maybe they will change their minds.

Posted by: Leah | Dec 7, 2008 5:09:49 PM

What a lightweight to bring to such a heavyweight position. Gregory's depth is comparable to an asphalt rain puddle.
Why not give Chris Wallace a few million more than Fox pays him and get someone with credibility.
It really shows what a sorry state TV journalism is in these days when you have to bring this puff piece guy who likely never did a personal investigative piece in his career. He's a talking head not a journalist.
My days of watching Meet The Press are likely over. Thank God we have C-Span and PBS.

Posted by: Tom. Tescher | Dec 7, 2008 6:05:21 PM

David Gregory is biased to the right. I never watch any of his shows. He leans toward tabloid and has no depth. Just asks what you would expect him to ask, nothing more. Very disappointing.

Posted by: jonnierae | Dec 7, 2008 6:27:51 PM

David is really a fair interviewer. It took a while, but I see him doing well. watch his daily "1600" show.

Posted by: Sal Akpos | Dec 7, 2008 7:16:15 PM

What about the birth certificate?

Posted by: josie | Dec 7, 2008 7:49:59 PM

Why doesn't george STAPHonopolous do some real journalism AND report on what is happening at the Supreme Court tomorrow. It has become apparent that the "Savior" that the lemmings voted for in october has put the country in a constitutional crisis. He will not release his birth certificate and now we are on the brink of riots in the street if it is found that he is not a natural born citizen.. Blame the media, blame the arrogance of Obama and blame those who blindly voted for him. THIS ISSUE IS REAL...and you won't find any information about it on this crappy, Obama worshipping website. Do your own research people and don't be a fool and believe factcheck.org. The more you research the more you will see how much corruption is really out there.AGAIN, OBAMA HAS PUT US ON THE BRINK OF A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS AND TOMORROW YOU LEMMINGS WILL FIND OUT JUST HOW BAD IT IS.

Posted by: steve | Dec 7, 2008 8:02:04 PM

HEY LIBERAL LEMMINGS.....why has Obama not released any of his college information, his passport records and why has he spent several hundred thousand dollars protecting the release of his birth certificate. Are you people really this gullable. Obama, factcheck.org and the media have played you people like fools. Simply ask yourself why is Obama hiding this information? He has put us all in harms way.

Posted by: steve | Dec 7, 2008 8:07:58 PM

hey staphonopolous......you are not a journalist. Half of all Americans hate you because of your bias towards the left. A major Supreme Court decision that will effect us all is coming down tomorrow and you decide to run this cute little story. Your a joke but unfortunately the situation Obama got us into is no joke. People we this really is very serious and you will see just how bad you have been played tomorrow at 10 am.

Posted by: steve | Dec 7, 2008 8:12:53 PM

I am very pleased with NBC's choice of David Gregory. He always asks tough questions and makes sure they answer them.
Congrats
