Coming Up on 'This Week'

January 04, 2009 7:08 AM

We will begin in Israel this morning where heavy fighting continues today after thousands of Israeli ground troops moved into Gaza last night.

Join us as we get the latest from Israeli President Shimon Peres from Jerusalem.

And, President-Elect Barack Obama begins lobbying Congress tomorrow to pass his massive jobs plan just as a full-scale ground war in the middle east threatens to present his first diplomatic test.

We will dig into both those challenges with our guests this morning: the Senate's Democratic whip, Dick Durbin of Illinois and the most powerful Republican in Washington, GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell.

Plus, we'll discuss the controversy over the Obama's now vacant Senate seat with our This Week Roundtable: George Will, Cokie Roberts, Katrina Vanden Heuvel and Jonathan Karl.

See you then.

Ok they keep talking about getting all these jobs. But what I don't understand is from where. I ask my husband are you going and open a business and hire 50/100 people is this where some of the jobs are suppose to be coming from new business? They can bail out the banks and auto companies where they are the highest over paid employees working. I talking about the CEO's! However auto workers on the a line making $ 70.00 an hour !! Give me a break they make more in two days then I do in two weeks...and then if they can't have their way they go on strike...well if they do that how about giving those jobs to someone who really needs and wants jobs. This 70.00 an hour and all of these get aways for these CEO that cost millions and the average person can't even make ends meet. Get rid of them don't give them more!!! ok I have said my piece what good it will do !! Oh I know NOTHING!!!!!

Katrina Vanden Huevel doesn't provide any useful discussion to the round table. She is a liberal and can't think beyond what her beliefs are. George, you gave her way to much air time.

Katrina Vanden Heuvel

What a wack-O

Katrina provides helpful balance to your moderately republican program.

I couldn't help but notice that you had no input from the Palestinian side at all.....just the lies and distortions from the Israeli spokesman.....why?

If your children were forced to live in hopeless and intolerable poverty and no one would help....I imagine you would eventually fight.

Sad that your coverage is so one-sided and so anti-Palestinian.

Kitrina is a very good counter voice to George Will. When will Americans wake up to the lies and missinformation of the neocons? Keep standing to them Kitrina.

It is very interesting that This Week (1/4/2009 KABC Los Angeles)your panelists feel that it is important to have African Americans in the senate. However, your panelists are all white. I would like to see more color on your panel.

The govt has bailed out several banks, companies etc at tax payers expense.
How about doing something for everyone in America with the stroke of a pen. How about rolling back the clock to the 80's when one cold deduct the interest on their credit cards. As it stands now we pay the finance charges and then get taxed on that finance charge in the form of taxes since the payment is part of the tax base calculation. This deduction would have the effect of increasing disposal income since it provide for an immediate tax break.

Now that's doling something for all Americans.

Hello George, Jan 4,2009 at the end of your program a picture of the White House in the background was brought closer into full view and there in the upper balcony was a LARGE DRAPE with a full screen picture of a man wearing a Turban. we were shocked and so was my husband who saw it also. on this Sunday the 11th of Jan. We watched for it to be shown again and it was not.
Can you explain why it was there on Jan 4,20008?. Because we did see it .
Please post this thank you. Anne Skinenr

I no longer watch Washington Journal because it has slipped from having plenty of guests and pertinent information into a melange of right wing punditry. No more Peggy Noonan, Newt Gingrich, etc. Would have loved to see the show improve with progressive ideas and guests, but the show went into degeneration. Yuck!
