Impossible for Obama to Keep Richardson

January 04, 2009 6:29 PM

That the Obama transition team didn't know about these allegations against Gov. Bill Richardson is shocking.

A Google search would have shown that this investigation has been going on for some time. This has been an issue in New Mexico for a while with the Albuquerque Journal reporting on it for several months.

It would be very surprising if this is something that was missed by the Obama team.

But what I think happened is the fact that the FBI investigation into pay-to-play allegations isn't closed out, combined with all of the focus on the Gov. Rod Blagojevich's corruption scandal makes it more difficult for Richardson to survive politically. And that made it impossible for President-elect Obama to keep him right now.

But this isn't likely to distract Obama for long. He faces so many other challenges of such magnitude. Obama is coming to Capitol Hill tomorrow to talk about his economic plan.

That, combined with the Israeli ground war in Gaza, and the panoply of national security challenges he'll face when he takes office.

This Richardson hiccup is likely to be a small blip -- especially if they are able to come in with a easy-to-confirm replacement for Gov. Richardson in the next week or so.

All contributions from Americans living overseas had to be accompanied by a valid US passport number and were carefully crosschecked.
Will people stop making false claims that Obama got contributions from foreigners?
As to Richardson's problems, I knew about them and I live in London.
I am also aware of Clinton's problems.
She and Holder will no doubt be challenged in Senate hearings by the Republicans.
The Obama Transition Team cannot claim ignorance as they are all Clinton allies.
The military will not allow any person in a sensitive position to hold dual citizenship.
Why does the PEUSA have an Israeli citizen, Rahm Emanuel, as his Chief of Staff?

How naive can you be Amoreena? Of course the Obama team told Richardson to withdraw. As they did John Edward before the convention. They had promised the North Carolina Senator a prominent place at the Dems convention for his endorsement, and as it came close to deliver they went to Edwards and told him to confess the adultery, ride the storm and don't expect anything from the convention... maybe later?

Obama has sold out to corporate business, only 1% more small donors than Bush - the rest from professional lobbyists. His debts to Corporate America in addition the political capital he owes just about everybody will eat him alive. If Obama concentrates on the people, abandon does promises we have the same'O misery. Infighting and when Obama tries to win in four years he has to do it without the outspending in money 5:1 he did this time against McCain.

This sophmoric reporting misses the main points: A) Richardson was not properly "vetted." How many others were not as well??? and B) The Obama "team" is more interested in filling the positions wiht "high profile" Clinton associates then they are findng the right people for the job.Part of the problem is that there are very few Democratic "stars" in the fold and Obama has no personal capital with any of them anyway.

They knew about it. They just didn't care. They KNEW that their taodies, in the Press, would keep this quiet. Anybody hear ANYTHING about this before NOW? I haven't, and I'm on the blogs EVERY MORNING. Besides, he's a MINORITY. OBVIOUSLY, they're just going after him because of RACISM. Watch how fast this case goes bye-bye when the GREAT COMMUNITY ORGANIZER and his teleprompter, get in the White House.

It is impossible that the transition team Didn't know about this. Plus Richardson was fully aware. The shady dealings begin the new year and the new administration. Democrat culture of corruption is bursting out all over but of course it means "nothing" when it's a Democrat.

George still won’t admit that he’s the leftist version of Rush. You are not an unbiased journalist George, stop pretending that you are. You are a left wing commentator, the flip side of Rush Limbaugh so why pretend otherwise? At least Rush is honest about what he is.

The real story of this latest scandal is the glimpse it gives into the Obama presidency.

As with everything about Obama, his entire "vetting" process, which was praised widely by his adoring media, was nothing but a PR stunt. Everything in this disaster done to loud acclaim by the "tingle brigade" will be of no value other than to get PR for the "messiah", Obama.

He already shows more signs with his idiotic jobs plan to provide 3 million ditch digging jobs by building roads and "greening" government offices.

Gets him PR, but provides nothing.

many of the residents of new mexico are glad to see this one is sticking to teflon richardson. He can cover his eyes on the mexico illegals, the meth labs, and the failure to enforce septic disposal regulations while he plays with his full size train set ( the rail runner, a complete waste of taxpayer money ) Just think some wanted to run him for the big seat in dc... egads

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?

Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that there is gambling going on here!

Croupier: Your winnings, sir.

Renault: Oh, thank you very much.

LOL...All you foolish liberals made such a big deal about McCain not properly vetting Palin.

Now it is completely obvious that Obama and his vaunted vetting team are either totally incompetent or deliberately trying to brush Richardson's issues under the rug and hope a compliant media would help nail the rug to the floor.

As many others have stated, it sure is getting crowded under that "Change" bus!!

One of two things happened with this Richardson deal. One, Obama and his team are very naive and inexperienced or two these type "pay for play" schemes are no big deal in Chicago/Illinos style politics. In either case it is truly frightening.

hey georgie, have they all forgotten your DIRTY re loan from Citicorp? Or was it JP Morgan. My, my, if they only looked inside that deal - huh georgie? Boy, did that deal stink? That's why citi ate it - cause it did pay for play. Just like Georgie!

This isn't a surprise to anyone who has followed politics..New mexico was ready to oust Richardson-he was not well liked there..handed out appointments to all his family and friends whether qualified or not-he is cut from the same cloth as GWB...democrats have their parasites too..as a democrat I say weed them out..I certainly wouldn't defend richardson-he needed a job-when he realised obama was certain to win-he jumped ship from the Clintons to better serve himself..and that has always been his M.O.-serving his country is way down the list-he has no character...

Is there anyone connected to the new administration that is not involved with some kind of controversy? Obama hasn’t even taken office yet and he’s already looking incompetent.
He’s going to make history alright.

Dear Les Miserables
You have harped on Obama since you first heard his name if you perceive him as bad you must really hate Bush and the RNC. I mean really, really hate them. Hatred is a sin, get over it.
