Majority of Viewers' Questions for Obama on Economy

January 09, 2009 4:47 PM

In preparing for my interview with President-elect Barack Obama airing Sunday morning on "This Week" we asked our viewers for suggestions on questions.

We've received hundreds of pages of questions coming in from viewers -- the overwhelming majority of them on the economy.

If you have a question for Obama, please email me HERE.

Don't miss my exclusive interview with the president-elect this Sunday morning -- his first since arriving back in Washington, D.C.

Our interview kicks off a week-long series on ABC News about the economy, "America’s Economy: What’s the Fix?"

See you then.

I have a question: Obama will be creating jobs such as rebuilding our roads, bridges...etc. What jobs will he create that will help women? I know that there are women in these fields but for the most part these jobs are handled by men. I am losing my job and there is nothing out there for me to fall into. I am single and only have one income which will be ending soon.

Georgie be sure to ask a hard question like.. does he like ice cream and what flavor

So your avoiding the one question that's now before the Supreme Court? Nice work "fawning corporate media." You don't ask real questions, you just do what your told. And why is viewership going down again? Right, because your doing SUCH a good job at not doing your job. Obviously.

Like many families across the USA, we are struggling to put food on the table. What can the government do to try and help contain the rising cost of food?

I would like to know, for the sake of transparency, if President-Elect Obama, would be willing to publically disclose the total dollar amounts of the last stimulus payments and any future stimulus payments, intercepted for debt from individuals by the Treasury on behalf of the IRS, HUD, and Sallie Mae and covertly returned to the Federal coffers.

George, do you think you could fit that in between any pressing questions you might have regarding flag pins, Rev. Wright, and challenges to Obama as to how much he loves his country? Thanks in advance for your cooperation....

Please...

1) Why more costly bailouts at our expense & absent full accountability as to where all the $ went & it's working?

2) Why did you not pick more expert people for CIA & all our defense posts- when our safety at risk?

3) Why not send all ILLEGALS back asap- for our safety & to cut our social security, medical, school costs & free up jobs for our kids & all AMERICA'S now unemployed????

4) If you'll be swearing on the bible ( on 1/20/09 ) to UPHOLD OUR CONSTITUTION- WHY have you REFUSED to make public ( & transparent as promised) YOUR ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE & other documents that would save millions of legal fees & allow ALL Americans to believe in you & be confident that no CONSTITUIONAL CRISIS is eminent, while America's already in major crisis???

Mr. President-elect you are viewed by right wingers as a far-left liberal who "sees the limiting of government not as a linchpin, but rather as a fatal flaw ..."(National Review Online, Oct. 27,2008). As such, when you say what the federal government or the state government 'must' do on behalf of the people, it is talking about federal socialism and your aim is to remove essential constitutional constraints. Is it your aim to change our government and its constitution into one of federal socialism as alleged?

***Tax Cuts in the form of Uncle Sam Gift Card guarantees spending to the last penny. ***

Tax cuts with no strings attached will be wasted, especially a $50 increase of the net monthly pay won’t make me buy anything big. But a tax cut, or a rebate in the form of a Gift Card (a debit card similar to the Digital TV conversion government coupon) with a ninety day expiration date will do the trick. A ninety day expiration day guarantees the refund will to be used fast and for purchases only, use it or loose it. A debit card can be restricted to a select list of purchases, for instance you can't use it with any financial services, no bank deposits, no insurance, no investments, no cash advance, no payment of taxes, loans, no gambling, no mortgages etc. only for purchases. It can have a 20% consumer co-pay too for extra bang. Whatever doesn't get to be spent it stays in the US Treasury, not in a bank account. The cards can be reloaded every year until the economy will need no more stimulus. The cards can be issued staggered for year round purchases. The government will know instantly how much is spent and on what, every penny goes for purchases, or stays in the US Treasury.
Everyone has something to replace but postpones replacing it until it breaks down, especially now he thinks next month he can get it for less (deflation), well a gift card with a deadline will make the decision easier. Nothing like a deadline concentrates the mind, I got my digital TV converter the last day, but my rebate check ended up in the bank!

Here are my questions: How in the world will increasing the deficit help the economy? Temporary construction jobs? You have to be someone's relative to get those jobs. Tax breaks for companies keeping jobs here? Company bosses can't wait to manipulate that. Whatever happened to increasing taxes on the rich? To increase revenue, you have to get the revenue from somewhere. (That was a campaign promise, was it not?) When you are in a hole, stop digging. It is becoming clear that Obama - along with everyone else - has no idea whatsoever if any stimulus plan will work. So spare us any bailout and stop spending our money. Until we as a country start getting serious about economic issues - including trade deficits, fair trade policies, and foreign policy expenditures - all of this is for naught.

Does anyone really think that we need more roads? Id rather go hungry and lose a little weight than spend half my life in traffic on the Long Island Expressway, the BQE, and of course that fine road the Cross Bronx. Seriously, would the Administration consider repealing the Davis-Bacon Act? More jobs for for the unemployed and less pay for a few iunion fat cats.

How about asking for his

BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

Why illegal are allowed to stay when jobs are needed for citizens doesn't make sense This is not to say that legal immigrants should be discrimated against. That would be wrong. But, someone is asleep at the switch, it seems.

Also, tax reductions without strings are like gifts from Santa. Whether for business or personal use, there should be some way to redirect tax reductions to parts of the economy that need it. For example, if the tax incentive could be used as a credit to purchase environmentally friendly vehicles.

I have an "out of the box" idea for helping the auto industry produce and consumers purchase more environmentally friendly vehicles. What if auto insurance companies allowed an individual to insure two vehicles with one insurance policy but only one could be driven at any time. If this were linked to tax benefits for environmentally friendly cars we could have a short and long term benefit. Just an idea. I'm sure the devil is in the details.

Eager to hear George S's Obama interview this morning, I went online to find that it was divided up into various segments, each one preceded by some commercial. That's not helpful in the least to those who want news, not noise. Serious journalism ought to be delivered divorced from intrusive ads. I understand you have to pay for the website, but surely you can find other ways so to do. Others have.

The 'change' is black rule...
