Kyl: 'No Chance' Health Reform By August


Despite President Obama's calls for health care reform legislation before congress leaves for its August recess, the GOP Senate minority whip told me today there is "no chance" it'll get done. "Republicans very much want reform but not on the backs of the American people with the kind of taxes and potential rationing of care that would result," Kyl said, "There is no chance that it's going to be done by August."

Durbin: Cheney's Secret Program 'Could Be Illegal'


Pretty startling allegations in this morning's New York Times. The NYTimes reported former Vice President Dick Cheney ordered the C.I.A. to withhold information from Congress about a secret counterterrorism program. Today on "This Week," Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin, D-Ill., argued the Senate Intelligence Committee should "absolutely" investigate the matter.

Bush-Era Torture Probe Likely


Investigations into the Bush administration's interrogation practices of detainees now seem very likely. Back in January, President Obama told me "we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards." But my sources confirm Newsweek's Daniel Klaidman's reporting that Attorney General Eric Holder is likely to launch an investigation into whether there was abuse or torture of detainee, and whether laws were broken.
