Gonzales v. Cheney

In an interview with the Washington Times , former AG Alberto Gonzales defends his successor Eric Holder's decision to investigate possible prisoner abuse by CIA interrogators.

Rebutting Dick Cheney's Sunday blast of Holder, Gonzales says Holder was right to make an independent decision.

And unlike Cheney -- who said it was "ok" with him if interrogators broke the rules to get good information -- Gonzales says that it's "legitimate" to examine that kind of conduct for the sake of accountability

This is especially surprising -- not only because there's little evidence that Gonzales took this kind of stand during his tenure -- but also because one of the most powerful arguments against Holder's decision is that this misconduct was already investigated by career prosecutors during the Bush years.
