A 'This Week' EXCLUSIVE: Feinstein, Chambliss, McGovern, and Keane

October 08, 2009 7:43 PM

As the President weighs his options in Afghanistan we’ll bring the debate to you with an EXCLUSIVE roundtable on ‘This Week’: Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee; Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-GA, a member of the Intel Committee and Senate Armed Services; Representative Jim McGovern, D-Mass., who has introduced a bill that would require the Administration to submit an exit strategy in Afghanistan; and General Jack Keane, the retired four-star general who was the mastermind behind the “troop surge” in Iraq and supports General McChrystal’s call for more troops. We’ll cover all the issues: the current state of Al Qaeda, its relationship with the Taliban and whether it’s time to wind down or ramp up the mission in Afghanistan?

On our second roundtable we’ll turn to domestic politics. The Huffington Post’s Arianna Huffington, former Bush Communications Director Nicolle Wallace and ABC’s Donna Brazile and George Will join me to debate the politics of health care reform, how the political landscape is shaping up for the 2010 mid-terms, and ethics troubles for Nevada’s Republican Senator John Ensign and powerful Democratic Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Charlie Rangel.

See you Sunday.

Ask Chambliss why he was a draft dodger and lied about Cleland's war wounds.

I can't imagine why Saxbe Chambliss would be invited anywhere, let alone to be a talking head on "This Week," a usually credable show. From his campaign against Max Cleland we know how Chambliss thinks, ergo, why would we want to hear anything he has to say?

Why in the world is George Will a weekly featured guest? The man is so far out there in la-la land that he has NO clue how normal people live. He and Cokie Roberts are jokes.

Do we really want to leave the women and children to the tender mercies of the Taliban? What kind of callous people have we become?

The reason I (and my large family) watch "This Week" IS because of George Will and the sometimes on Roberts. Both are very level-headed, intelligent and grounded in reality.

Thanks ABC for having the best news talk show on Sunday! (Though I will have to say that George Stephanopoulos does on occasion let his liberal leanings show from time to time. When this happens, all I think of is his admission that he openly wept after Obama was elected...)

Love your show, however can't figure out Donna Brazile. Is she a direct spokesman for the Obama administration? Can't remember her criticizing anything our president has ever done. Can’t say I generally agree with Arianna Huffington, however, she holds true to her political philosophy and respect her for that as does George and Cokie. Hate the republican talking pointers as well. Several weeks ago Rob Gibbs was on your show. He did not answer one question asked. Does he understand how that affects independents like myself?

Mr. Will is obviously among those who is wealthy enough and well insured enough to be above the fray when it comes to the daily war on premium payers and potential premium payers in this country. We have obviously become a means of production, and the client has shifted to share holders, fund mangers, or someone else. Not us.

And while I often disagree with Ms Huffington, she is correct that health care reform is more akin to desegregation than some more traditional government program requiring funds that can be costed out in dollars alone.

As a retired small business owner, I can report from experience that buying health insurance for employees has always been nasty business. Even 30 years ago, rate increases were never less than two or three times the COLA. My workers had "living wage jobs" and still could not always afford to cover their families. This is not right. It broke my heart.

Now as a nonprofit board member, I pay over two times what Congress pays for the same coverage. This is not government's fault: I'm glad they can make a deal. This in the industry's fault. Small business, individuals (especially court mandated coverage) and we Medicare B and D are cash cows to these "captains of industry" (this ship of fools).

To pass a law that forces us all to have coverage that did not include an equalizer like the public option (that would give the cash cows a chance) would be a red letter happy day for the so called health care industry.

Don't be mislead by well insured people. Even Mr. Will could find himself with a pre existing condition and wonder what happened. However, it is more likely that Mrs. Will, if there is one, will be the victim of the exclusion-from-care racket.
