AARP To Endorse House Health Care Bill
November 04, 2009 4:31 PM
Democratic sources tell me that AARP – easily the most influential seniors lobby – will endorse the health reform legislation put together by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats.
Speaker Pelosi and her leadership team have been lobbying the lobby for weeks. AARP officials also met yesterday with WH Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and took the proposed endorsement to their Board of Directors. A public announcement is expected tomorrow or Friday, in advance of a vote by the full House likely to come on Saturday.
“Big victory,” summed up one top Democrat.
The Speaker still doesn’t have the 218 votes she needs to pass the bill. Moderate Dems are balking over abortion funding and illegal immigrants. But Democratic leaders insist the votes will be there before the gavel falls Saturday.

This is why I am not, and never will be a member of the AARP. They will never get a cent of my money.

Even if 100% oppose this bill, just Rahm it.

=============================
The AARP is NOT representing their own members but instead has become a lobbying group for the ideology of their power hungry management.

I WOULDNT SIGN ON TO ANYTHING RIGHT NOW AND I THINK THE BLUE DOGS KNOW BETTER NOT A GOOD TIME TO SIGN ON TO PELOSI HUGE ADD TO THE DEFICIT BILL

Surprising since AARP is just a cover for big insurance!
Posted by: La Chatte | Nov 4, 2009 5:28:01 PM
The complextity of the bill aside, I can't even understand the politics of the health care debate sometimes. Why would the AARP endorse a bill no one thinks can clear the Senate?
Posted by: Myron | Nov 4, 2009 5:33:41 PM
The major function of AARP is to sell health insurance, besides publishing a magazine. It has long been serving as a mouthpiece of Pelosi on health care reform. It neglects what said inside the HR3200, while stating that the health care bill contains no government involvement. Since only half of its membership are seniors over 65, it probably doesn't care much if it loses all the members over 65, all they care is to be prosperous on selling health insurance, which means big money.

AARP goes along with Pelosi. Could it be that they are in bed with Nancy? AARP is another arm of the Socialist Democrat Party.

I wonder if AARP will become the 'adminstrator' for the public option plan.
I've been fed up with them for awhile. Pulled my mother's Medicare supplemental from them a couple years back. My aunt moved hers earlier this year.
Posted by: malcat | Nov 4, 2009 5:53:41 PM
Many people have already left the aarp.
Their position on this is pretty outrageous considering the cuts in the bill.
Posted by: jonny | Nov 4, 2009 5:56:18 PM
AARP is a greart supporter of Seniors. I belong, have the supplemental health insurance and I andall my medical providers are happy with it.
There is no one else speaking for us. They are keeping are Medicare benifits safe and make sure we have a united voice on important issues.

I canceled AARP as soon as they got political and aligned themselves with Pelosi. Anything she is involved in is bad for our country. Pelosi doesn’t what most American people think, she needs to go. Pelosi is just bad for our country and she take that punk Reid with her.
Posted by: a citizen | Nov 4, 2009 6:10:08 PM
I cancelled my membership and so did my mom, they ask when you call why you are cancelling and I told them because they supported this stupid Health Care Bill and I DID NOT!!!!!!
Posted by: countrygirl_74 | Nov 4, 2009 6:16:04 PM
They will get their share of the 47 million uninsured that will now have to buy insurance very profitable. There are lots of medicare insurance plans that are much cheaper than what they offer.

I don't think the current reform really reform as much as they should - even "Japan Incorporated" - a nation that's in love with capitalism, has a higher percentage of private medical facilities than us, and has absolutely NO public options, realizes it's absolutely ridiculous to allow for-profit health insurers: all their 240 private companies for non-profit. Who'd be foolish enough to support health network costs controlled by companies that desire 15% annual profits, spend 18% of all health care dollars on admistrative costs like corporate jets, waste 25% of the rest on paperwork, and need more patients and higher costs - above the rate of inflation - to keep their house of cards going? Oh, yeah - there is ONE - and only one country foolish enough to do that, isn't there? Any wonder the rest of the world is now calling us "The Land of the Fee"?

You can kiss off any further renewal of my memebership from now on. Once you decided to get too close to the political arena especially with Nancy Pelosi that put a very sour taste in my mouth. I can't believe you would succumb to their awful tactics. Yes we need reform but not with what they are trying to propose and try to shove it down our throats.
Posted by: Bridget | Nov 4, 2009 6:25:04 PM
I love AARP, and will remain a member. At least they don't try and rob you.

The House and Senate Health Care Reform Bills slashed Medicare by 500 billion dollars which will severely cut health care services for Seniors. So Answere: Because the CEO of the AARP, Barry Rand is a supporter of President Obama. If ABC or any of the other MSM in the tank outlets had any integrity, they would be pointing this out. Without a doubt if the head of the AARP was a supporter of President Bush ABC would be shouting this info from the roof tops.
ncoming AARP CEO A. Barry Rand contributed $8,900 to President Obama’s campaign committees, federal records show.
"Rand, a retired senior executive at Xerox Corp., Avis Group and Equitant Inc. and the current chairman of Howard University’s board of trustees, gave the maximum $4,600 to Obama’s election campaign and an additional $4,300 to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising entity of Obama and the Democratic National Committee.
Altogether, Rand has given $15,900 to Democratic campaign committees since 1995, according to searches of Federal Election Commission databases dating back to 1990 that are maintained by CQ Money Line and the Center for Responsive Politics."

I have several times considered joining AARP, however because of their liberal positions I have hesitated to do so. But supporting the gov. run health care offered by Pelosi, is the final straw!! Not only will I "never" have anything to do with AARP, but I will also urge everyone I know to do likewise Something smells foul here between Pelosi and the government. Supprise...Supprise!!!!
Posted by: Dick | Nov 4, 2009 6:40:55 PM
The AARP CEO (not the members who know their health care is being slashed) need to stop drinking the government run socialized health care kool aide and face reality. The reality is government run programs never come in under budget and are unfailingly engulfed in fraud, waste and corruption. Government's track record is always failure when it comes to running anything including Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, the Post Office and Amtrack that are without exception running in the red and going bankrupt. So expecting a different outcome from the Senate and House's Health Care Reform Bills is pure insanity.
Moreover the Senate and House Health Care Reform Bills are filled with thousands of pages of government laws and mandates, 700 billion dollar increases in taxes, an evisceration of Medicare services for Seniors and promises of higher quality health care at lower costs which will inevitable be broken.
The bottom line is government can never be counted on to keep their promises of higher quality and lower cost Health Care for all. Just look how the promises to Seniors are being broken by government. The House and Senate Bills eviscerates health care services to Seniors who need health care the most.
What is so despicable is that the CEO of the AARP cares more about supporting Obama's agenda than standing up for the Seniors he was hired to represent.
What is certain, is that the promises that are being made to everyone of lower costs and higher quality health care will also be broken. Why? Because there is no way to realistically pay for them other than eviscerating the services promised to everyone when the costs go out of control as they inevitably will. The real tragedy is that once the leftist Democrats succeed in their goal of destroying the private health care system, only the elite in DC will have the luxury of a "Cadillac" health care system. The rest of the "masses" as the leftists Dems like to refer to us, will be left standing in line in vain, waiting for that surgery or treatment we need to save our lives.

Oldsters, prepare to have your bennies cut!!!
Posted by: jonny | Nov 4, 2009 6:56:29 PM
HaHaHa, see you old timers, even the AARP likes it. Don't let hannity and the beckster scare you. There just fear mongers.
Posted by: Jim Bob | Nov 4, 2009 7:19:39 PM
The AARP wants the bill because it cuts funding for Medicare Advantage plans that 1 out of 5 seniors enjoy. Why? Because AARP sells Medigap policies and with no Medicare Advatage plans to compete with they will clean up. But don't talk about that George.
And the AARP has been endorsing the destruction of the health care system ever since the Liberals decided they wanted the government to take it over.
Think about this. The bill is going to cost 1.2 Trillion and doesn't include the 1/4 Trillion doctor fix nor does it calculate how much this will cost when the Liberals pass their immigration reform next year. How about another 15 to 20 million receiving government subsidies. Let's not talk about that though.

I smell a rat with this endorsement given that the House Bill cuts Medicare by 500 billion dollars. Seems to me that the head of the CEO, Barry Rand who gave a lot of money the Obama campaign, cares more about his support of Obama, than representing the Seniors he was hired to represent.
Posted by: jason | Nov 4, 2009 7:43:39 PM
If AARP in going along with this con they show their intelegince and who they are behind and it's not a free America. The Russian leader, of the sixties, is going to be right.
