Jarrett: Partisan Divide = GOP's Fault
November 01, 2009 10:57 AM
Though the President pledged on election night to work with the GOP, the President’s top adviser blamed Republicans for the partisan chasm that has grown in the year since.
When I asked about the divide Jarrett said, “You should ask that question to the Republican Party."
She refused to accept that the President should bear any responsibility for the partisan divide insisting that President Obama constantly reaches out to Republicans, and just because he doesn’t get their votes does not mean the process isn’t fruitful.

Fascinating how all things that are bad are attributed to Republicans while the Democrats are viewed as angelic messengers of good and truth...

"the President constantly reaches out to Republicans"
Huh? George, did you call her on this one? With back room deals that are sealed off, Republican health care proposals that aren't given a glance by the Obama Administration, it's amazing to hear this blatant lying coming from Jarrett's lips.
Why don't you call her on this obvious lie?
Posted by: MikeM2006 | Nov 1, 2009 11:13:56 AM
This is a lie from Jarrett.
Republicans have recruited many moderates like Castle of Deleware to run for the senate.
Republicans recruited charlie crist of florida.
Republicans recruited mark kirk in illinios and are looking and are trying to recruit guliani in new york.
The moderate new jersey republican cristie won over the conservative.
Moderates are being promoted all over.
Just remember McCain won the primary last year against all the talk radio.
Moderate republicans are far closer to the mainstream than Valerie Jarrett and Van Jones.

Dems = Reps = Big government trash.

George, give us a break. I promise you that we're REALLY not that stupid. Do they ever stop pointing fingers? Bunch of whiney crybabies. Please start calling them out on this B.S.! Do your job.

When is this administration going to take ANY responsibility? Everything is someonelse's fault. BUCK UP! GROW A PAIR! You are the people in control, stop pointing fingures and act like adults instead of school kids!

Moderates and the GOP. NY23?

Both parties need to take responsibility for the divide. Comments like Speaker Pelosi made earlier this year suggesting that because they "won," their agenda can now be implemented, shows that both are culpable. It is time for both parties to temper their ideological agendas to be more representative all of our citizens rather than the constant giving in to either extreme based on who is in power at the moment. The reason the popular vote is so evenly split, is because the real majority is in the middle with two minorities at the extremes. The first party to realize that and actual govern based on that knowledge will truly win the hearts of the American people.

that's a completely absurd response. what it proves, however, is the ingrained belief among obama supporters that there is no room for any opposition at all and that to achieve the administration's goals they must have 100% control of the congress, the white house, and preferably the supreme court. the idea that a party with a near filibuster proof majority is prostrate to the manipulations of a minority party in whom no americans have any faith and which is completely out of touch with mainstream people (according to the president and congressional democrats at least) is also absurd. so, now the score card is that everything that is wrong is the fault of republicans, fox news, rush limbaugh, glenn beck and anyone who disagrees with the administration in any way, and the white house and/or congressional democrats have absolutely no responsibility for anything that's gone wrong in the last decade. what a joke! and anyone wonders why all politicians are held in such low esteem. kindergardeners could do better.

Jarrett-another big lie-did you call her on it-No, that's why we all are switching to Oreilly, he makes them answer the hard questions. Softball is boring.

We'll reach out to those that agree with us, ask for feedback but ignore, compromise to get a vote in comity and take it back when it hits the floor. Valery Jarrett's words crystallize the democrats definition of bipartisan, "Ultimately you don't have to change...", well Ultimately you do, that is the definition of compromise and compromise is the only way to achieve bipartisan.

Ditto Jon....amazing how astute some people are....

There's a partisan divide because people think differently about things.
That isn't going to go away.
President Obama repeatedly misstates the position of those who do not agree with him. He paints them as obstructionist, and said in an address to Congress that arguments against him are "bogus" and "lying".
Debates should be respectful, but the result is never going to be that everyone ends up agreeing. You don't have to agree with Obama to be an honest person interested in solutions.

George, Jarrett lies as much as 0bama, they are not going to take responsbility for any thing. Al Sharpton should stay off t.v. all he can do is agree with someone else, he doesn't have a clue.I'm suprised he even realized Obama was trying to use him during the election, Obama didn't want to appear to black or to radial

George, I enjoy the Roundtable every Sunday, Keep holding their feet to the fire. They need to start acknowledgeing some of the blame. I think Obama is trying to break every campaign promise he made, it sure looks that way.
Posted by: Gail | Nov 1, 2009 12:17:57 PM
Valerie Jarrett has got it exactly right. The Republican party's decision to be "the party of NO" following President Obama's election must accept responsibility for their actions and the fact that their behavior fosters a partisan divide.

"The Republican party's decision to be "the party of NO" following President Obama's election must accept responsibility for their actions and the fact that their behavior fosters a partisan divide."
Yawn! Hey genius, Democrats have super-majorities in both chambers of Congress. They don't NEED Republicans to pass anything.
Posted by: Mary | Nov 1, 2009 12:57:14 PM
democrats say the republicans are out of touch with the common man, that their base is crumbling, and that the party is on the verge of destruction. at the same time, however, they say that republicans are able to control congress by obstructing the near filibuster proof majority democrats hold. just this morning, while jarrett was saying it's all republicans fault, another white house mouthpiece was saying that the divisions in the new york republican party are evidence that armageddon is here for the republicans. what exactly is this message, and what am i to make of it? that the democrats, in control of the white house and congress, are so ineffective that they are powerless against a minority party on the brink of extinction?

Ms. Jarrett: How much have Obama and the Dems reached out to Republicans? How many minutes did they discuss Republican recommendations for tort reform?
Oh, forgot, don't want to offend the big donors: trial lawyers. Premiums go up and up and insurance pays off big malpractice (often frivolous) lawsuits.
Without tort reform, insurance companies, rightfully or not, can use the high cost of malpractice, etc.
Good Doctors never want to make mistakes.
But if they have to request lab tests, scans, needlessly - prices go up generally as well as in the court room.
Jarrett is a joke.

Just like so many other members of this so-called "transparent", "ethical", and "post-partisan" administration, she is full of crap.
Posted by: JC | Nov 1, 2009 1:25:47 PM
Ms Jarrett's comments this a.m. were beyond belief based on what I am currently aware of. I sure wish she, Ms Dunn or other administrative officials would appear on FOX News and try to answer questions that might help all of us wade through the facts. To date, the facts don't support her comments. Here's to a more open & transparent government.

Watching Jarrett's body language, reactions, and mannerisms were quite telling. As experts will tell you, there are outward body signs that indicate when a person is lying.
Jarrett showed such indications. Several of Jarrett's responses resulted in her chest, neck and some of her face becoming quite red. Numerous hard swallows, neck twitches and fidgety movements were noticeable. While I'm sure there will be an "explanation" for these reactions, I won't buy it.
Keep down playing the indignation and aggravation of the voters as it only makes them more determined. In 2010, the cleaning will begin. In 2012, I hope Jarrett will be following her boss to the unemployment line! Along with them will be the rest of the radicals!

Jarrett how is it that dems have complete control of the house and senate and can pass anything they want yet they are having problems getting it done. It sounds like the real party that is having problems are the dems or maybe it is the failing policies of this administration. Anybody with a brain knows you cant keep spending money and raising the deficit to the levels we have now and keep lying to the american public and think they are going to support you.

The behavior of republicans is similar to tantrums thrown by children when they can't get their way. Grow up and work on developing a counter culture to the democrats or you'll never realize a majority again!
Posted by: John Locke | Nov 1, 2009 4:23:37 PM
" Reaching out " is not what's taking place. Democrats are not interested in compromise, and Republicans aren't going to just roll over and sign on to things which are anathema to freedom.
