Winners/Losers in NY-23

It seems to me neither Sarah Palin or Tim Pawlenty are really losers in this. The President campaigned much more actively for the Virginia & NJ Govenor races & the losses were much worse. Not to mention the fact that Hoffman came out of nowhere & came very close. If you think SP & TP are losers what does that make the President?

Hoffman, a THIRD PARTY conservative, was only on the scene for THREE weeks and nearly beat Owens. If Scozzafava's name weren't on the ballot, Hoffman would have won. That's huge. Plus, Hoffman purged a RINO. And Palin had a huge hand in it. Awesome. Liberals should be VERY worried about 2010.

I think Newt was a loser. He backed an obvious RINO and said she wasn't a RINO. He was PROVED WRONG when she endorsed the Democrat like the Democrat she is.

I'd rather loose standing on my principles than win by fudging on what I believe. That's what it means to be a conservative. As a parent I believe and live this every day. I must be flexible - but I also must know where I will not go. What I will not bend to. The Dems and media will not understand conservatives (like Palin) until they understand we have standards that we can not sell out. Even if it means loosing.

You can't say with any certainty that Scozzafava's name on the ballot is what saved Owens. Owens won with 49%, Hoffman garnered 45%, and Scozzafava 6%. If Scozzafava was really as liberal as you claimed, it would stand to reason her votes would have gone to Owens, not Hoffman, and he would have at least gotten to 50% + 1.

But "Hoffman purged a RINO. And Palin had a huge hand in it." So great, that's good. Let Palin purge all the RINOs, and you can govern 11% of the country on local levels, but you'll never win another national campaign.

Somehow you forgot to mention in your winners list ACORN, I bet they were lurking around there somwhere.

you overthrow the local pick for the national appointee,and the national appointee , despite spending more than the dem, in a district that is 65% republican, lost the vote.

LOL! I love the spin and delusion of the left. The fact that Hoffman, a third party candidate, got 45% of the vote with just three weeks of campaigning is a big deal. Gallup recently showed that over 40% of Americans consider themselves Conservative. Liberals are about 20%. Washington will eventually be aligned with WE THE PEOPLE, but it will require purging of liberals from both parties. Unfortunately for power-hungry politicians, the momentum is with the people, as it should be.

Yeah, but that 20% are the better educated people, the movers and the shakers, and the more successful.

A big chunk of the 40% who call them selves conservative are "average" to "below average" in intelligence, hence they are less apt to help the country grow.

Liberals: "Yes we can!" Conservatives: "if everyone is poor, I won't feel like such a loser."

I was definitely hoping for Hoffman, but I am glad to have Owens (a wolf) rather than a wolf in sheep's clothing. Thank you Sarah Palin. If she and other Conservatives continue to call out the Republican party they will regain respect for the party. Just as Christie ran on honesty and integrity, so should the republican party be.

Everything is changing with the GOP, they are finally being forced to listen to their own constituents rather than their competition.

LOL, the NeoCons are squealing in delight at the Gov races. Governors don't have much to do with deciding national policy. However, the pick up of Owens as Congressman has lots of influence on policies. After about a year of Rove & Christie governorship we will see what happens in N.J.

The GOP is not going to win without the support of moderates. I fear the day when both party's candidates are so far to the right and left that us in the middle are stuck picking the lesser of 2 evils, Wait that day was last November.

I think you have to say the current state of mind is denial! Exit polls show the following. First in Virginia 30% of the voter turnout was Independent and 66% of those voted Republican, 53% of voters said they were "Very Concerned" about the direction of the Economy and 77% of those voted Republican, 85% said they are "Concerned" and 63% voted Republican. 24% of those asked said they voted to show Disapproval for Obama! Now New Jersey 28% of voter turnout Independent and 60% voted Republican 56% of the voters stated they were "Very Concerned" about the the Direction of the Economy and 61% of those voted Republican! 89% said they were "Concerned" about the direction of the economy and 51% voted Republican! And 19% of voters said they voted to show Disapproval for Obama!

I remember during the election, Rick Warren asked the candidates "do you believe in the existance of evil?"

This morning I would answer, "yes, evil does exist, and its here, right in America."

But then, evil has always existed, in every culture and society in the world. Justice, creativity, innovation, CHANGE, are things that are advanced by only a handful of people in any country. It's an uphill battle, but it's the only way humanity advances: when the brightest people show the way.

When will the Republicans stop attempting to force feed their "values"? Congress is far the worse for all the members toeing their parties' lines. Quest For Fire II could star Harry Reid and John Boehner.

Conservative Republicans have shown they are a serious cult to eliminate and they aren't followers of Christ at all. Jesus The Christ was a collaborator who brought individuals of difference together, not elminate them or oust them. What he did do was bring individuals together. This just shows how conservative republicans have a cult cleansing mentality and the republican party is so much like the Hitler regime to cleanse and not bring people together in wholeness. Big plus to Italian government for making a different in church versus state. Many of us Christians don't like the Crucifix either with Jesus hanging on the cross. That Crucifix is just one symbol of one faith not all in the Christian faith therefore, good job Italy.

And George is picking the Winners and Losers from the elections - Which seem to be the Right... Hmmm. Objective? Not seeing it. Thanks Sarah!! Keep up the good work. Everything you touch turns rotten. There hasn't been a dem in NY-23 since the civil war!! It's a red district, yet Bible spice managed to scare everyone off. She only represents a small minority of republicans, not all of you can be that dumb.

Jenn...you and blind people like you keep adamantly believing what you do. And celebrate these meaningless wins while you can. You will not be able to in"10 or'12. Moderates left the party for one reason in '08. It is called extreme conservative thinking. And based on the New York results we can see that that "virulent strain" is getting worse. What we have here is a great example of short term vs. long term thinking. Educated, progressive people always win that type of battle.

Hoffman was winning until Scuzzofava's district was counted.

He will unseat Owens, the Democrat lawyer in the regular election.

I would say the Rebublicrats were the losers and Rahm's "win", as his morning phone mate George characterizes it, is more like dumb luck.

Should have mentioned Rahm was furiously calling from the White House to get the endorsement too George.

This was a very sleazy race for both the Dems & Rep's. The only real winner was in Hoffman being exposed to voters and the real possibility that people will stop voting along party lines.

He seemed the only normal human in all the elections last night.

I think Democrats need to start pandering to what independents want and when the Majority of Independents Side with Conservatives/Republicans they need to pay attention to the following! I think America is telling us something! Tell your Congressman not to support the 1.2 trillion Health Kill bill, Tell them not to support Cap and Tax, Tell them get the spending under control, Tell them we want smaller Government, tell them we do not want a Government that Dictates pay, Owns Banks, owns the Auto Industry or who is in Charge of Health Care! Does Health Care need some reform? Absolutely! But NOT in the form of 2000 pages of a 1.2 trillion pork filled partisan bill! Now is the time to tell your Congressmen if you Support this we WILL NOT support you in 2010 or 2012 we will keep throwing people out until they follow the will of the people!
