Marion Burros Update
07/10/2009 1:32 PM
Marion Burros got back to researcher Steve Pikelny, and left a message saying that the open letter was “filled with half truths and out-right falsehoods.” And the truth? We'll have to wait. She said she is away for the week, and unable to give specifics.

Marion Burros vs. fishermen? That's a fight I'd like to see.

As someone who used to work nearby Burros's office, I'd like to say that if she says something is "false," it's probably a coin-flip. It all depends.

John, you really should consider doing a segment on seafood. There is not a single shred of scientific evidence that eating fish causes mercury damage to humans. God knows they've tried very hard to find some.

My wife is a dentist and you would not believe the number of people that walk into her office every week complaining of debilitating ailments as a result of mercury leaching from their silver fillings. According to research from dental professionals, there is more mercury in a single can of tuna than in a mouth full of fillings. Neither is harmful to people, but that doesn't stop them from complaining.
The other interesting phenomenon she sees from time to time is people picking up radio stations in their fillings. Hopefully Obamacare will cover these and lots of other serious ailments for "free." I can't wait for my tax dollars to pay for that!

While Ms. Burros accusations are false they are not surprising. To find out what tough questions she’ll need to answer about the similarities between her own story and the Oceana report, both published on the same day, click here:

Is there any update on this posting? Please note it was July 10th that Marion Burros apparently claimed, given a week, she was prepared to prove the National Fisheries Institute’s open letter, that exposed her reporting, was “filled with half truths and out-right falsehoods.” It’s August 18th and as far as I can tell no one’s heard a peep from the former New York Times reporter… 38 days and counting.
