The Quadrennial Quest

August 15, 2008 9:19 AM

With less than two weeks to go before the conventions, there’s still no obvious runaway frontrunner for VP on either side---although that’s about to change. We expect Barack Obama to make his announcement next week, just before the Democratic convention, and then John McCain to tap his running mate the week after that, on the eve of the Republican convention.

We’ve been talking about all the leading candidates, but last night on Nightline, we looked at why anyone wVeepbeat_generic_blogould actually want to #2. It’s the top political office that (historically, anyway) has gotten no respect—and subjected some of its occupants to outright ridicule (can you spell potatoe?).

We talked to Dan Quayle (I asked him if he was a liability for the first President Bush) and Walter Mondale (who had some advice for Obama what to look for in a VP).

You can watch it here.
