John Berman has been at ABC since 1995, and allowed to appear on television since 2001. He covered the 2008 campaign extensively, following John McCain and Mitt Romney during the primaries and then Barack Obama in the general election. He also spent more than 20 months chasing George W. Bush around the country as a producer from 1999 until 2001, earning the clever nickname, "Pain in the Ass," from our 43rd president. He is a frequent and sometimes welcome contributor to all of ABC's broadcasts.

Palin’s Promise
September 04, 2008 12:01 AM
A whole lot of people watched Sarah Palin tonight and thought John McCain is a very smart man.
In towns across America, where people look and sound like Sarah Palin, she was given a fresh start. There’s the inside-the-hall audience -- who already loved her anyway -- and the outside-the-hall audience -- who have been given plenty of reasons to be skeptical.
To them, Palin showed two important qualities. First, there’s her resolve: This is a woman who has taken a beating in the national media for five days, and she stood before the American people and explained herself.
Then, there’s her fight: With no experience on the national stage, she challenged Barack Obama on his own turf.
Palin has much work to do to establish herself on the political scene. But she took a critical first step today.

by the way, if mrs. palins "experience" isnt worthty of a v.p. ticket, then her so called "small town scandals" shouldnt be a talking point right? just a thought... but attack from every angle that you can.. lol

I would love to have Palin as the VP of my girls soccer club, but not the VP of the US!

Posted by: plh | Sep 4, 2008 12:37:03 AM

What fools on this blog think Obama the Marxist writes his speeches.

She sounds like a wonderful person, great personality, someone you could hang out with go camping, have some heated politics discussions with. BUT do we need a wonderful person as a VP who is nice and all as a VP? OR do we need a person who is ready to be the leader of the greatest country in the world at the drop of a hat?

I am a registered republican but vote for the BEST candidate
Posted by: plh | Sep 4, 2008 12:39:52 AM

clooette...
great point, but have you looked at what she stands for and what she has done for the state of alaska? her approval ratings? her reform policies? she has done very well. i can see where some might say the short experience time is an issue to them, but she has done a great job at being a leader thus far. if the situation were any different i would understand a little bit more but having barack obama for your democratic PRESIDENTIAL canidate pretty much takes away all credibility... lol
Posted by: tim | Sep 4, 2008 12:43:22 AM
Excluding the top of the ticket HYPOTHETICALLY (its hard I know but just to try and think out of the box here guys) who would you rather step up to be the next president PALIN OR BIDEN?
Posted by: Collette | Sep 4, 2008 12:43:36 AM
Tim, that's funny that you assume that BO is my candidate of choice I am an Independent and have not made up my mind who to vote for yet, or even that I will vote for either one!
BO has his experience problems as well....
Posted by: Collette | Sep 4, 2008 12:45:50 AM
well, by the way you talk i find that hard to believe, but ill take you at your word. if your a rgistered republican, im assuming you are upset with their actions as of late. as am i. but you cant be a republican and actually think obama is a better canidate?! its just not possible. now, that being said, you can be like me and believe mccain IS NOT the best canidate for republicans, but it can ALWAYS be worse. and barack obama would be a nightmare. he is for everything i stand for. i just cant possibly give my vote to someone with his left wing, marxist views.

I've been in academia, here and in Europe, for 40+ years and one skill that, after all that time you can't help but acquire is the ability to assess intelligence after only a short-term interaction with someone.
Sarah Palin might not have an Ivy League degree, but she's a highly intelligent woman. Clearly, also, she is a natural at administration. Believe me, not too many people are gifted in that particular area.

I am just trying to get people to think and think hard about this...rather then this whole messed up my party your party woman vs man junk.
Posted by: Collette | Sep 4, 2008 12:46:54 AM
My fellow americans, and dear misguided dumbocrats. Nothing will stop McCain-Palin at this time. This is history in the making, you better get used to it, suck on that for a while. We need much more than a community organizer to deal with today's issues.
Don't waste your vote ... vote AMERICAN ... vote McCain-Palin 2008.

as we know - she were not able to manage, and fire, fire, fired..
In amall city with 7000 people, including infants.
And her 'fight" with Oil bosses was to turn the pipe for her interests, no matter war.

I never said who I was voting for yet....but right now the way this country is in a mess this whole two party system is just screwing everything up.....we cannot get things done in congress because of this crappy system and people like us are the one's that suffer while the DEAD PARTY HEADS just yammer on in DC!
Posted by: Collette | Sep 4, 2008 12:49:50 AM
collette...
well i wasnt assuming you were an obama supporter, just that if you compare experience issues, i would rather the v.p be a newcommer, or a little more lacking in that department than the president!!! i can totally understand being an independant, matter of fact i am pretty much the same, i dont like to affiliate with either party. but to be undecided?! what are you undecided about just out of curiosity? i mean obama and mccain are like night and day, as the democrats and republicans are. are you just confuse with the big picture of who you want to give more control to or is it actually a personal debate between obama and mccain you cant decide on?
