John Berman has been at ABC since 1995, and allowed to appear on television since 2001. He covered the 2008 campaign extensively, following John McCain and Mitt Romney during the primaries and then Barack Obama in the general election. He also spent more than 20 months chasing George W. Bush around the country as a producer from 1999 until 2001, earning the clever nickname, "Pain in the Ass," from our 43rd president. He is a frequent and sometimes welcome contributor to all of ABC's broadcasts.

Googling Sarah Palin...

October 02, 2008 5:52 PM

Google has a great feature up, in honor of its 10th anniversary, where you can Google as if it's January 2001. Results come back as they would have then.

So my colleague Tahman Bradley had an inspired thought: Google Sarah Palin. After all, she was mayor of Wasilla by then.

And the verdict is . . . nada.

Of course, not quite nothing. First reference is to a British genealogy site: "Father: Job Palin (Abt 1762-1849) Mother: Sarah Rayner (1765- ) . . . 5 F Sarah Palin."

For the record, Joe Biden's Senate Website is first up under his name. Barack Obama's state Senate site (with a quite dated photo) is first up under HIS name.

And some things don't change: Google "John McCain," and you get a link to "Straight Talk America: Main Page."

If there's ANY justice in the world, in January 2009 you'll also get nada.

yes, you are correct JR, if you elect Obama, you will get in January exactly what he has accomplished in his ridiculously meager career....

NADA.

Nada won't protect our country, nada won't put food on our tables. This man has done NOTHING.

He just talks and talks and talks and talks.

And the world is sick of him already!

Amen liberati. JR has been consumed by the dark side.

For Obama to say he doesn't like lobbyist everyone should remember that as a community organizer that is exactly what he was. He lobbied for money to fix up low rent housing, education and other stuff for his community. Too bad part of the money for housing went to his buddy Resco and some of the education money going to Ayers and the money for crime didn't do to well either. Many of the Resco houses couldn't be lived in, education speaks for itself in Chicago and crime rates in Chicago are tops in America.

Obama was good at shaking the money tree but as for his other efforts????

Can you stand 90 mins. of her squeels?
I won't vote for McCain because she will have to speak.

She may have the weapon to bring about world peace. If they give in,She won't give a speech

Is Palin incapable of being direct? She's asked a question, and she refuses to answer it or shoots off some memorized patter that may have nothing to do with the matter asked about. She was accused of lying about Obama, for pete's sake, and her response was to claim she's "talking directly to the American people" and ignore the accusation. If she says one more time that she's talking "straight to America" not only will I not vote for her, but I will actively work against her. She has had ample opportunity to go out on the stump, or agree to more interviews, and "talk directly to the American people," but she hasn't. She seems dishonest and patronizing, like the sort of acquaintance you'd be polite to but never ever confide in. Wow, I didn't think anyone could make Joe Biden look compassionate and brief.

I can imagine Palin as a PR person for an oil company or spokeswoman for the Alaska tourism board, but not as Vice President of the United States. She's McCain's gimmick to attract working class voters.

I thought he handled himself quite well. She really was out gunned.. you can't cram for a debate against someone who has been in the thick of things all along. I would have liked to see him a bit more aggressive, but I understand his restraint given his opponent, and it worked in his favor.

Lobbyists are a fact, deal with it. Look at what he was trying to accomplish and why.. then go look at the bills he has supported, both in Illinois and in the US Senate. He fights for what he believes in and it shows. Equal rights for minorities and woman, affordable and expanded health care for all, ethics reform and transparency in government, better education, better housing, fighting poverty, energy independence, improved fuel economy, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, upholding constitutional rights, increased benefits for veterans, etc.. A quick look through the library of congress thomas center (link below) will reveal a great deal about the man. Then look at those sponsored by McCain.. the vast majority are either directly or indirectly related to the military. Understandable, since he sits on the armed forces committee, but that appears to be the major motivating factor with his legislation.

And when you compare that with each candidates tax and health plans, it is more than obvious where each ones passion lies. Sorry, but I'm just an average working slob trying to provide a home and future for my family. For me it is as plain as day, and I wish more people would really open their eyes and look for themselves.

Obama has ZERO experience needed to be the president. He has gone to school lot and learned how to make speeches in front of people, but that doesn't qualify you for president of the United States. Running a country is alot different than going to a classs and delivering a speech for a room full of students.
