John Berman has been at ABC since 1995, and allowed to appear on television since 2001. He covered the 2008 campaign extensively, following John McCain and Mitt Romney during the primaries and then Barack Obama in the general election. He also spent more than 20 months chasing George W. Bush around the country as a producer from 1999 until 2001, earning the clever nickname, "Pain in the Ass," from our 43rd president. He is a frequent and sometimes welcome contributor to all of ABC's broadcasts.

The Wardrobe Questions Begin
January 19, 2009 3:24 PM
I am still waiting for my invitation to the inauguration, from either ABC or the Obama team. At this point, I have resigned myself to the fact that neither is forthcoming. So instead of actually witnessing history, I will be commenting on it as I watch on television (or streaming video on ABC News.com!!!!) It will be like when I yell at the TV when the Red Sox are playing, except that Obama isn't perfect like Kevin Youkilis.
So everyone start gathering around your computers at about 9:30am Eastern Time. That's when I am going to get started, assuming the coffee is alright. I will be eager to hear from all of you as the festivities ensue.
My first question, and you are all welcome to weigh-in now, is about fashion. There is a whole bunch of chatter about what Michelle Obama will wear during the balls or what Barack Obama will wear at the moment of the oath of office.
Well, my question is, what will Charlie wear? Charlie Gibson that is. A shout out to the person out there who correctly guesses the shirt and tie combo that Charlie chooses on Inauguration Day.

Hard to imagine with people getting their homes repossessed, getting laid off, etc., that who is wearing what is even a concern. It shows us what a shallow country we can be.

Great stuff, John!
My prediction for Inauguration Day:
A scandal will ensue when Charlie Gibson wears the same suit, shirt, and tie as Doris Kearns Goodwin - but it looks good on Doris.

I say he goes with a nice warm dickey and a Bailey's on the rocks.

Shallow the question may be but I would rather spend my time pondering that than higher taxes that are sure to come!! My guess dark grey suit with deep purple or blue tie! I love Charlie!

Tell Charlie Gibson & Diane Sawyer that President Obama was not giving the "Thumbs-up" sign to the parade contingent from Hawaii; He was giving the "Hang Loose" sign!!
