Skip Black Friday, Still Get Bargains
November 26, 2008 7:00 AM
ABC News' Alice Gomstyn reports: Are you willing to sacrifice your turkey time for a chance to get your holiday shopping done early and cheaply?
If so, when you wake up Thanksgiving Day, you might want to spend a few minutes online at your favorite retailer’s Web site.
John Vincent, the founder of the BlackFriday.info, says that many retailers aren’t waiting for Black Friday -- the day after Thanksgiving when shoppers can find some of best discounts of the year -- to start offering big bargains. Instead, they’re posting Black Friday deals online a day early, on Thanksgiving Day itself, while their brick-and-mortar stores are closed.
“People [can] take advantage of the deals before these items sell out, and they can sleep in on Black Friday,” Vincent said.
In the past, some deals have gone live as early as 1 a.m. ET on Thanksgiving morning, Vincent said. Generally, if a store is going to post bargains on Thanksgiving, he said, they will be up by 6 a.m.
Electronics retailer Circuit City, which is currently going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, confirmed to ABCNews.com that it will be among the retailers offering Black Friday discounts on Thanksgiving Day. The retailer’s Web site, a Circuit City spokesman said, is generally updated at 5 a.m. ET.

This is a ridiculous attempt to stir up the stock market. The hell with the banks, the automakers, and the stock market itself! It's a screwed up system that exploits creatures all over the planet. So let it crash by not investing in it. You'll probably lose money anyway if you listen to this lady.

Walmart is going to match anyones ad, even black friday ads. Very smart! (and so easy for all those black friday shoppers)

Oink Oink Oink....Herd mentality..... "ZOMBIES - "WE MUST SHOP NOW"….. like a bunch of greedy pigs @ the feeding trough….. I don't and wont shop on either of these days….this s a prime example of why our economy is in the state it is, in fact, I don’t plan on buying any gifts, I find that there is very little or NO holiday sprit anymore….. it's just "WHAT DID YOU GET ME, and how much did it cost"………. take your sales and put them where the sun don’t shine

Hey, I don't know what the problem is with these other posters, but I think this was a helpful article and I appreciate the links to finding good deals. Christmas is coming up and I want to be able to buy gifts for loved ones on my list that don't cost a fortune.

It is a good article and people are forgetting about the season of giving - getting a better price on something is a good way to make a dollar go further. I guess the previous people have more money than they know what to do with if they think that the info was crazy. You can get deals all over already too.

I like how one of the poster's here writes-"it's the season of giving-getting." You're absolutely right! It's the season of getting! To most mindless robots, it's all about greed. Is there anything of value left for us that hasn't been commercialized?

The problem with "deals" is that you end up buying things you don't really need.

I have very little to no money to buy gifts this year. My kids will at least receive a little something from other family members. But I have a couple of people that I normally buy for and have no money for their gifts. SO, I have secretly asked several of their family members to email me favorite recipes that come from more than one generation of the family -- along with photos or stories that remind them of the dish in the recipe. I will put together a scrapbook of these "treasures" and give those as gifts. In the end, I am sure this will have much more meaning than anything I could buy on Black Friday.

What's the matter, didn't your mommy love you enough. Geez, I am glad you won't be at the stores with your grumpy attitude. Stay at home please.

Support China. Bye useless junk for your family this holiday season.
Actually teach your kids about what the holidays really mean, and go for a walk with your family to fight obesity.
