Inside the Clemens Steroid Hearing

February 13, 2008 4:17 PM

We're working on putting together a piece tonight on the Roger Clemens steroids hearings taking place on the Hill right now. Producer Karin Weinberg is in the hearing and sending us updates throughout the day. Here are some of her observations.

Karin Weinberg Reports:

It's a circus. Lines of fans outside for only a handful of seats. Fans with Yankees jerseys. Some of the committee members seem genuinely star struck, fans of Clemens. One committee member asked Clemens what uniform he'll wear when he gets into the Hall of Fame.

Dan Burton was the big Clemens defender who said he did not believe Brian McNamee -- Clemens' trainer who said he injected him with human growth hormone -- and asked him how Roger Clemens plans to get his reputation back if it isn't true. Burton said in this country you are "innocent until proven guilty."

Elijah Cummings was hardest on Clemens, and asked the most pointed questions. For Cummings, it came down to good guy Andy Pettitte.  Cummings said the person he believes most is Pettitte.  He asked Clemens, "Why would McNamee lie about you, Clemens, but tell the truth about high use in Pettitte and Knoblauch?"  Cummings said to Clemens, "It's hard to believe you, sir. You're one of my heroes, but it's hard to believe you." Very powerful.

I also believe in Roger but not for what he has done but more on what he has given to the children.Either way if he did or if he did not it is shameful of the media to drag his name thru the mud and the same for Barry Bonds because of these two mens careers and their skills in the game does not give the media a excuse to profits off these storys and their advertising sales once you set quilt in others minds it stays .So what if neither were quilty you still have destoryed their names and history, now you tell me is this fair? I've taken steroids for over 11 years and why to keep me alive as I was told by my doctor that I now know was wrong because I no longer take them its a terrible drug and try 80mg a day talk about mood swings that come and go but then again I must say I could never hit a ball like Barry or pitch a ball like Roger so who are you to judge! Then again why is their so much media attention on these two don't you think that the media could do more on national health care or help students get a education without putting them in debt, sorry that I'm lost here but what is your purpose other then persuasive thoughts of people that will not support your ways..I do not know what Barry's feelings are but as for Roger I can not blame him for sayiny the best thing about Dayton,Ohio was his view from his rear view mirror. Way to go Jeff Bruce the next time you use others life for your profits for your stinking web site guess you better seek some one else thats scared of yours and the city's staff thoughts. My thoughts Dayton is to much in control of the newspaper and City officals that waste to much money for their own needs and less on the people the best that could happen to Dayton is to remove all above that includes Business staff that passes out third front money to their friends only.Local senator wife handles that for you right just like when you change a levy the night before the people voted. How slick are you or better words how crooked!
