Closing Arguments: Your Take on McClellan's Memoir
May 28, 2008 11:21 PM
In his scathing new book, former White House press secretary Scott McClellan accuses President Bush of using “propaganda” to sell the war in Iraq to the American people and chastises the president for "decision to turn away from candor and honesty when these qualities were most needed."
“The Iraq War was not necessary,” concludes McClellan, who for three years regularly and vigorously defended Administration policies from behind the White House podium. McClellan’s memoir, "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception," has set tongues wagging all over Washington.
Former Bush staffer Karl Rove says "This doesn't sound like Scott, not the Scott McClellan I've known for a long time…it sounds like a left wing blogger.
Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama says “The only news is that somebody within the administration is confirming what a lot of us thought for some time."
What do you think about McClellan's allegations?

Do you want to have this debate in a vacuum????
The Supreme Court, The President, The Vice President, The Republican Party, and all those who voted for Bush, should admit they are wrong, The War was wrong. They should apologize to the Troops, and Their Families, and The American People. They should all hang Their heads in shame. Thank You Scott McClellan. You are a TRUE TEXAN. And, a True American. You, have washed your hands of this blood of our soldiers who fight the War For Profit in Iraq.
By the way...Has Bush ever admitted he was wrong about anything???
After all, he has the lowest approval rating of any President in U.S. History.

P.S. The democrat controlled congress has lower ratings than Bush.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Can you imagine a foreign leader sending his military into America, destroying our country and killing a million of us in an attempt to "bless" us with with a different political system and to "achieve greatness" for himself through war? The only appropriate place for such a man and his entire sordid crew would be a war crimes tribunal followed by prison cells,in my humble opinion. Because it is happening to "others" however, rather than to us, it's all acceptable and accountability is unnessary. Right? I thank and respect the man for at least doing the unthinkable - telling the truth to the people.

It's about time! And it's only the beginning. Historians will be digging and trying to uncover the truth for prosperity; this book turns over the first stone. I imagine history will show a personal agenda - the real reason this administration invaded Iraq and how they deliberately misled Americans by implicating Iraq as a co-conspirator to the terrorist attack on 9/11, as well as creating the fear of an attack using WMDs against us by Saddam Hussein. I wonder how far the conspiracy by this administration really goes; did they deliberately 'lose' intelligence that could have prevented the 9/11 attacks? We had been watching the 9/11 conspirators all along and had extensive intelligence - we knew that something was imminent; how and why did this administration totally overlook all of it? And so much more we'd like to know. So thanks to McLellan for stepping up to the plate and giving us this first look from "inside." The facts must have been eating away at him - the book sets him free.

only in the junior george bush world is telling the truth become the worst sin of all
Posted by: okie_mike | May 29, 2008 1:12:50 AM
With what's at stake in the world right now, this is certainly the right time for THE TRUTH (sooner would have been better). But what is the truth? Right now only the Bush insiders know, but based on the mounting evidence and the possibility of numerous investigations into the actions of the Bush adminstration I suspect Bush's legacy will very fittingly mark the end of what Nixon started 40 years ago (deception, division and dishonor to the highest office in The United States of America).

Scot McClellan hasn't said anything that we don't already know. The problem is that he, like the rest of the media, held back on information that could have put pressure on the Bush administration to end this war and save innocent lives. These two-bit journalists that interview these politicians know they that they are liars and won't challenge them and hold their feet to the fire. They (journalist) withold information and won't inform the public until after someone is out of office or dead. Who needs to know it then? There use to be a time I trusted and respected journalist, and the media, but not anymore. They will lie and defend the politicians of their choice. I've watched a many an interview of political figures, and they can't speak 10 words without lying. And the journalist doing the interview won't challenge them. America has done a lot of wrong in other countries and always try to hide behind the cloak of "national security". Iraq was Bush's personal agenda and he hid behind national security. He is guilty of mass murder, war crimes, and should be impeached, convicted, and put on death row along with all of his staff. Everyone knows that the Republican Party is the party of hate, division, racism, hypocrisy, war, exclusion, tyrannism, imperialism, and last but least stupidity. So, there are a lot of Americans in this same condition. When I look back on history, I see that every great civilization failed, and this country is on the brink.

We must first tried to sort this---is he lying now or was he lying back then?
If what has been reported about the book is true--then the author should be held accountable to us, the American people. Maybe it could fall in a category of commitrting treason during wartime. The real reason he trashed such a good man and his "friend?" of many years ----GREED--- selling books, making money from lies, throwing a friend to the wolves (DNC, "Main" ha ha ha PRESS). I will not give this subhuman any of my money by buying his trash!!!!!!!!!

The reports i've read relating to the book and charges made have pretty much been trickeling out for quite some time from other sources.no less a personage than Walter Cronkite was on record as saying that the media had given this administration a free ride and Mr Bush was caught in lies on many occasions such as when he said who knew ? on the levees in New Orleans and then a tape indicating that he'd been warned before Katrina about their inability to hold also indications by terrorist czar Clarke that intelligence in fact had warned Bush about threats from Al-qaida beforehand and the cabinet member from the treasury stating that prior to the war Mr.Bush said "i want Saddam and you find me the way to get him." that pretty much in itself tells you about the fabrication of the whole war. Had the media given the attention and focus to the many outright lies dirty tactics and illegal activities of this administration instead of being intimidated they might not have appeared complisate as they most certainly do.

If people had only researched Bush and Cheney's past endeavors prior to their first election, I don't believe they would have ever been elected. Just a few trips to the library. But then again, Americans seem to only look at the package and not the contents. I believe their master plan was to dominate the Middle East one step at a time; Afghanistan, then Iraq, then Iran, then Syria and so on if needed. Total domination, total control, the good old neocon way.
Thanks Mr. McClellan for opening the lid a little wider.

Our History is so slanted sometimes because many times people on the inside are afraid to step up and tell the truth. We see what happens and how they are attacked systematically when they do. I thank Scott McClellan for validating what so many people already know about this administration. What they did to the American people is criminal. I hope his reasons for writing this are for more than money - but I realize he will need it to survive because no one will want to hire him on the Republican side for quite a long time. I believe the man's conscience was getting the best of him and he had to step up and do the right thing. This is not about back-stabbing the Bush administration, because the ones that were really back stabbed by this Administration are the Amereican People. Thank you Scott McClellan. It's always right to do the right thing.

I believe Scott McClellan now. I don't think he felt able or willing to speak out when he worked in the Whitehouse.
I only wish that he would have mentioned this before writing the book. It would give him a bit more credibility. I am glad that he is speaking out now.

Knowing how the republicans operate, is it any wonder that Scott never expressed any oposition opinions while he was employed by them. Can you imagine what they would have done? Talk about throwing somebody under the bus, they would not only have done that, they would have then backed over him. He did the right thing by keeping his mouth shut until he was away from them. And, whenever I hear someone being described as "disgruntled", I've got to figure, there is some element of guilt and/or truth behind those
allegations.

Have a nice rest of your life, Scott. U deserve it.
Who wud've thought that there was a fox elected to guard the hen house.
It sure dredged up the robots who never saw a republican prez that they would not follow over any cliff. It sure has a benefit...ex-white house folk have finally awakened, even if only to say script generated things.
Kinda explains the house of chaos. Ole

I think that with what I have seen about the book so far. Shows what many have known since the begining. If only the democrats had any kind of backbone Bush wouldn't have gone nearly as far as he did. I think now is the time for a trial against the entire Bush administration. The charge of Treason comes to mind and the inaction of our government has caused this economy. George W. and Chaney are the head of the snake of this government the entire administration going back to 2000 should be charged with treason. If convicted they should surrender all benifits of thier offices and all the money they made since in office. Including all the money they made off the war and what thier families made off the war.

I can see from the posts there is one bush backer. Someone that seems to think Bush is a good man that is is a great president. If that is so JO then tell me something do you have a family member in the armed forces in Iraq? Have you lost a family member in Iraq? I have my cousin, friend, and nephew are currently in Iraq, I lost two friends to this war. My family and friends have sacraficed blood for Bush's war. He sits in the white house and acts like we need to free the middle east of fighting and bickering that has exsisted for millennia. If you had the power would you put yourself or any family member on the front line to fight for cowards who refuse to fight for thier own freedom.

Regardless of his motive for writing this courageous book,it validates what were facts to all but die hard ostriches and enablers (people who voted for Mr Bush)of the disastrous Bush eight years-- that all the fables stated to justify this disastrous for our country and the world misadventure were in fact known to Bush and his cronies to be myths. It further elucidates the real motive for the Iraq war.Since alcoholism and being born again did not fill the huge void in his self esteem, surpassing daddy and going down in history as a great president , might do so.Who gives a damn about the tens of thousand american service persons or hundreds of thousands innocent iraqui civilians(they are fellow humans, not collateral damage statistics)killed or permanently disabled. I will not mention the final bill of significally surpassing the $trillion mark down the drain. If our president was Japanese he would commit hara kiri.
