Closing Arguments: Global Warming or Lousy Weather?

June 11, 2008 12:19 AM

The east coast tonight is being pounded by thunderstorms, the Midwest has been hit by terrible flooding, and only halfway through tornado season it's already the deadliest season in a decade. So, what is going on? Do you think global warming is already making our weather more severe? Or is this just lousy weather?

Just normal climate variations. Definitely NOT global warming.

Global warming is false. The earth is COOLING down. LOOK AT THE FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lousy weather. There is 0 proof of global warming. No facts, just conjecture or just plain fraud. ABC needs to quit foisting this paranoia on the public. Prove it beyond a doubt first. Do your due diligence and then tell the truthoccasionally.

I think the United States has been destroyed and the New World Order is using HAARP to break our country up and depopulate the west to either sell it off or give it to the Mexicans. HAARP is destroying the communites by either floods or different types of storms and fire. It is up to the American people to wake up and destroy the political leaders who are in with the NWO.

Polls show that most people just aren't buying into the media hyped global warming "crisis." And it's hard to get all frightened when some of the leaders of the movement still travel the globe via private jet.

It's a scam. Just a way to undermine capitalism. Beware.

THESE ARE TIMES THAT HAVE BEEN FORETOLD IN THE BIBLE. THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS. IT SPEAKS OF ALL THESE TYPES OF NATURAL DESASTERS, FLOODS, EARTH QUAKES, DROUTH, SUNAMIES, HURRACANES ECT... AS BEING A SIGN OF THE END OF TIME AND THE COMING OF THE ANTI CHRIST. OFCOUSE IN THE END JESUS COME BACK FOR THE REDEMPTION OF THE RIGHTOUS. YOU ALL NEED TO BE DOING A SHOW ABOUT THAT. IF YOU DESIDE TO PLEASE INFORM ME IN ADVANCE. I DON'T WANT TO MISS IT.

IT'S JUST WEATHER! A FEW YEARS AGO, WHO EVEN KNEWABOUT EL NINO/ LA NINA? DIDN'T YOU CATCH THE ANTI-MAN-MADE-GLOBAL-WARMING PETITION, SIGNED BY 31,386 SCIENTISTS, INCLUDING FREEMAN DYSON, AND 9,000 P.H.D.S?

Weather, no; Climate, yes... its an academic distinction, but an important one.

Weather is local and short-term, so the answer to your question is no. BUT, what does seem to be happening is that our global climate (long-term average of weather) is getting warmer and becoming more erratic, which is a prediction of climate change. Global warming doesn't cause a specific hurricane or thunder storm, but the increased temperatures on land and in the ocean provide the heat (energy) that makes the storms (that we've always had) more intense over the long-term.

Global warming is BOGUS.. All the worst weather events happened YEARS ago, Highest recorded world temperature and US temperature, Blizzard of 49, Hurricane that almost made Long Island 2 Islands.
It's a CYCLE

I live in New England. About two weeks ago, I was in a long line at the bank (about 6th in a line of 10 or so strangers)and somebody mentioned how cold it had been both during the day and at night. I said it's the Global Warming. None of us knew each other; but, we all started laughing and joking. I think that says it all. You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time; but you just can't fool ALL the people ALL of the time.

global warming is real and you know you can feel it everytime you walk outside. which you no doubt avoid doing at all in summer. the world best scientist, say it's true. this isn't a movie. we can't wait till the last sec to stop this. i pray for our grandchildren.

I think global warming is a factor along with the earths cyclic routine. I think the global warming is accentuating the normal process. Alternative energy is a must if we want to save our planet and not have this dependency on foreign oil which is causing the downfall of our economy. But, that's another subject.

GLOBAL WARMING IS JUST A GREAT BIG, FEAR-BASED FUND RAISING SCAM!

Posted by: DON WILKERSON | Jun 11, 2008 1:24:21 AM

And just like that the crazies come out...

Before you post a nutty rant about how climate change is a scam created by the commies, the 'new world order (wasn't that a WWE group), 'greedy scientists', or the anti-christ, check this out!

Even Fox News finally figured it out:

Yes, I definitely do believe that global warming is a significant part of the cause of our extreme weather. As the atmosphere and oceans heat, there is more energy available to exacerbate the strength of storms. It is exactly the effects that teh scientists told us we would see.
Question: We are burning fuels at unprecedented rates. Heat results. Some no doubt escapes. But how can we NOT be heating the environment.
I saw it coming in the 60's, but didn't realize the effects of CO2 and methane.
Most of the world's wiser countries are well along the road of correction. How can we be so dumb as to keep our heads stuck in the sand. Gore was right - this is going to be very inconvenient. I wish it weren't. But I'm quite convinced that it is.
Millions are beginning to starve. I'm trying to do my part, and have been for years - like with a 70 MPG hybrid, drying my clothes on a clothesline, only having had 2 kids, and walking more. It feels good to help. I wish I could do more.

I think its global warming. what else explains the later winters and worse weather during the spring. I remember growing up wishing we didn't have any snow for holloween, and now we are wishing for snow for christmas! how do u explain that?

Posted by: john webersd | Jun 11, 2008 1:26:49 AM

Global warming...it's possible that our planet is indeed getting a bit warmer and perhaps this warmth is what is triggering the unusual weather patterns, BUT, it is rediculous for anybody to think that we as humans are and CAN actually warm the planet up! That's insane...LOL!!!

Posted by: Zaida | Jun 11, 2008 1:30:09 AM

we have to listen to the bible. these things are happining for a reason.

Posted by: john webersd | Jun 11, 2008 1:35:25 AM

Do you think global warming is a myth? Then what happened to the winter weather that was so common when I was a child, with temperatures dropping to 10 or 20 degrees below zero? And watch out for people who issue utterances like, "Environmentalists claim global warming is real, but scientists do not." Few if any real geoscientists deny global warming. Indeed, it was at gatherings of the best scientists in the world, at the Club of Rome and elsewhere the issue was first raised. Moreover, the effects of greenhouse gases are empirically demonstrable, and their increased presence in the atmosphere is also scientifically measured. Finally, what is it about the U.S.A., that people here are so far behind Europe, and even third-world nations in understanding that global warming is real?
