Closing Arguments: Does Win Make the Celtics the Best Sports Franchise Ever?

June 18, 2008 12:44 AM

Tonight the Boston Celtics did what no other team in NBA history has ever done: clinched its 17th title, with a stunning 39 point victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. So does this cement the Celtics' place as the greatest sports franchise of all time? Even better than the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, or the the Detroit Red Wings?

Yes, There win makes them the best franchise team that has ever been. It takes alot to win 17 titles. The team has struggles and worked hard for its Victories.

Are you kidding? The NBA doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence as the NFL, MLB or the NHL. Nobody watches it, nobody cares, and the Celtics can't hold a candle to the Yankees, Canadiens, Cowboys, Red Wings, Yankees, Cardinals (MLB), Phillies, or Manchester United. Best sports team ever? My foot. The NBA sucks and it is given way too much press coverage.

I'm voting for the Red Wings!
Winning the Stanley Cup is still overall the hardest championship to win.

There is no denying that the Celtics are great but greater than the Yankees? Please. 39 pennants and 26 World Series titles trump The Green's 17 Garden banners any day.

IT SURE DOES, THIS WAS NEVER DONE BEFORE IN ANY SPORT, THEY PROVE LAST NITE, THEY ARE THE BEST. THEY CRUSHED THE LAKER'S, WHAT A WIN, THAT'S WHY THEY ARE THE 2008 NBA CHAMPS.

COMPARE TO THE CELTICS: THE YANKESS SUCK, THE RED WING SUCK, THE NHL SUCKS, THOSE SPORTS ARE SO BORING, PLEASE CANCEL THEM, I REALLY DONT SUPPORT GARBAGE.

The Dallas Cowboys are the greatest team ever. The spurs are second. The Mavericks suck as much as their goofy nerdy turdy owner. How bout them COWBOYS! Ye HAW!

Yankees have much better stats. 26 world series, 39 pennants, plus longer history. No way is boston better

The DALLAS COWBOYS are the greatest sports franchise in the world. They are going to be the ones to watch out for this year during the upcoming football season. Congratulations to the Boston Celtics for winning the NBA title. The Lakers and the Celtics gave us a great basketball final to watch. I'm looking forward on watching the greatest quarterback Tony Romo lead us to another SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!
"GO COWBOYS"

The DALLAS COWBOYS are the greatest team ever!! They had a good year last year and I am looking forward to this year with Tony Romo as quarterback to take them to the Super Bowl and win BIG!!!!! "How 'Bout Them Cowboys"

I don't think so...not in the same class as the Yanks or Cowboys...really, the NBAs talent level when Boston won many of their titles just wasn't what it is today. Players are much more athletic today....if they win 5 championship between now and 2015, then they can join that elite group. But before the 90s the top athletes played Baseball and Football.

The Red Wings are the best by far. They are still able to win even with the payroll limitations. This is something the Yankees don't have to deal with. Plus, look at how many times the Wings make it to the playoffs. I believe it is more than any other sport franchise. Also the fans of any sports team will tell you a lot about the franchise, and they didn't nick-name Detroit "Hockeytown" for nothing.

Manchester United?? Soccer???Well that opinion isn't worth anything. NHL, well thats almost as bad as soccer. Celtics Rule and are definately in the top 3 at least and yes maybe the greatest of all time.

Congrats to the Celtics on the win and the 17th championship as well as to all their fans. They are a great franchise, one of the best, but not the best in my book. A lot of great alternatives mentioned above like the Yankees and Canadiens.

Best franchise in the NBA maybe, but comparing one sport to another is like comparing apples to oranges

oh, and no matter how many Super Bowls they win, the Cowboys will alwasy suck
