Closing Arguments: Talking with the Enemy?

July 16, 2008 9:53 PM

The Bush administration announced today that it will send William Burns, a high-ranking diplomat, to meet with an Iranian negotiator this weekend in Geneva. It's part of discussions about halting Tehran's nuclear enrichment program and appears to be a change for the Bush administration, which once referred to Iran as part of the Axis of Evil. For two years, the Bush administration has stuck firmly to its policy of not directly engaging with Iran, unless enrichment ceases.

So is this a real change in policy for the Bush Administration? And should the American government be sitting down with the Iranian government?

1. Yes this would be a real change in policy if the US actually had any real "policies" under the Bush administration. The administration governs by its Orwellian convenience, prevarications, and idiocy.

2. There is no country on this Earth that the United States should ever fear to talk to. It is the mark of cowardice to avoid speaking to your supposed enemies and issuing blanket labels and ultimatums. With that said, Iran is not our friend and it need be made clear what our stance will be should they prove to be pursuing nuclear weapons.

Hussein Obama is the man for the job, he'd feel right at home, and may even wear a towel rag. Hopefully he'd stay in Iran and be the next ayatolah and spend the rest of his muslim life reading the stupid ignorant koran.

Barack Hussein Obama is an anti-american candidate who in his own words described how he will destroy America's defense capabilities. Jake Tapper, delete this message and we will discuss what your wife does when you are away covering polticial events.

This goes to show you how McCain was wrong all along in saying we shouldn't talk to terrorist. Now I wonder how the Republicans are going to try to spin this in their favor. Senator Obama should be putting this out in McCain's face everyday. Saying, " I told you so, I told you so". Have a nice day all.

EXACTLY what Obama's been saying.

Looks like Bush Junior and the Failed Republicans are finally growing a brain. Must be an election coming up.

Every day that passes...proves yet again that Obama's been 100% right all along.

Sure will be great for America to have an intelligent president again.

Poor old George W McCain...doesn't even know how to use a computer. LMAO.

“We hear talk of a meeting with the Iranian leadership offered up as if it were some sudden inspiration, a bold new idea that somehow nobody has ever thought of before. It’s hard to see what such a summit would actually gain. Instead of sitting down to talk with Iran, we must create the real-world pressures that will peacefully but decisively change the path they are on.” -- John Mcain (June 2, 2008)

"This is a complete capitulation on the whole idea of suspending enrichment," said former U.N. ambassador John R. Bolton. "Just when the administration has no more U-turns to pull, it does another."
========

For once I agree with Bolton except that this is a good U-turn and should have been done years ago. This also appears to be following Barack Obama's proposed Iranian policy. Obama leads, Bush/McCain follow.

Gee I wonder where he got that idea?

Geez,

I haven't been to this ridiculous board in sometime and I can see NOTHING has changed although LOTS has changed in the nation. Hmmm, I don't know the cost of GAS, FOOD, and other items we need to just get along has risen considerably for the average American. You know I do hope Obama wins this election, but in my own sick twisted little mind, there is this side of me that hopes McCain DOES win, and ALL of you get what you DESERVE. WHY? Simply put because YOU have not had enough, gas isn't high enough, enough people have not lost their homes, so you want more. Maybe, just maybe you will get 8 more years of the warrior McSame and Cruela Deville :)...

There is a really great video by David Zucker on Madeline Albright talking to our enemies. The ABC spam filter won't let me post the video site but I'm sure you all know where it is. This is great satire. Please take note New yorker staff.

I THOUGHT TO BE PRESIDENT, YOU HAD TO BE “ELECTED”?

The media is coronating Obama --- Reagan and Kennedy were both “elected” before they went and spoke in Germany to the public. I think we should have the election by the Anerican people first, and then the media and should back who is elected --- not who they favor. This thing in Germany, he is not speaking for the American people yet.

HOW MUCH IS THIS TRIP COSTING THE TAXPAYERS?

Barack Hussein Obama "hopes" we won't notice how many times he's "changed" his mind.

Why did Obama wait until he is running for President to find out what's going on overseas?

ALL IT IS NOW IS A HUGE "PHOTO-0P" WITH THE BIASED MEDIA IN TOW.

If he cared at all about what is going on --- he would have been before now --- and don't even get me started on Afghanistan --- he should have been there several times --- considering his committee appointment.

This man is a fake and a fraud and my only hope is that the American people wake up before it is too late. HE IS A DANGER TO AMERICA.

ANYBODY BUT OBAMA

THE MAGAZINE COVER OF OBAMA AND HIS WIFE WAS GREAT! WE ALL NEED T-SHIRTS.

OBAMA REFUSES TO DO TOWN HALL MEETINGS — IN FRONT OF AVERAGE AMERICANS — BUT HE’LL TAKE 300 PEOPLE TO EUROPE!

LAST TIME I CHECKED — EUROPEANS CAN’T VOTE FOR OUR PRESIDENT!

ARE TAXPAYERS PAYING FOR THIS?

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA WILL DESTROY AMERICA.

I’M VOTING FOR JOHN McCAIN IN NOVEMBER.
