Night Four Report Card: Grade Obama's Speech

August 29, 2008 12:29 AM

Tonight on Nightline, George Stephanopoulos graded Obama's speech: two A's and two B's. Not too bad. But what do you think?  Was Senator Obama too harsh on his Republican rival, John McCain?   Were the fireworks over the top?

Tell us what you think, and give us your grades below...

It was an A. He reinforced his role as an agent of change. He oultined his presidency and his positions extremely well, and seeing the first African American candidate and soon the first African American president in front of 85000 people deliver the speech that he did made me extremely proud to be an American tonight.

This comment is about Day 4 of the DNC convention. This was a wonderful night for America. I am a proud Democrat and an American (yes, I can be both!). Tonight was just what I hoped for. Obama's speech was a big WOW. He is proving to be the candidate to beat! He is and will be ready to the Commander in Chief. He leaves no doubt in my mind that he ready. I am a 60 year old white female who has never sent a comment for anything to anyone! I will say it again, I am a proud Democrat and an American.

I only listened to my 2 favorites ... Hillary and Bill. Tuned off Obama tonight ... mute button was on the entire speech but I did see all the hype and excitement over this man ...

And I had to ask myself WHO the hell is this guy and WHat on earth has he really done to deserve all this attention and excitement ...

The answer is hollowly NOTHING ...

I have never been a Rush Limbaugh fan ... but I sure thank God today we have a Rush Limbaugh out there .... and we have Tom Sullivan out there and we have a Glenn Beck out there ... and a Ann Coulter out there ...

This Obamamania shows Americans are hypnotized by this guy who the past 20 years have fed off the Rev. Wright ...

and someone who does not think he needs to serve a full term as a U.S Senator and has RUN for office MORE THAN he has SERVED in office ..

I want everyone to CLOSE their eyes and picture a WHITE OBAMA .... and picture his REAL experience ... those few years in a state Senate and just a year in US Senate .. picture a WHITE OBAMA who does not have the oratory skill that the Black Obama has ..

Obama has done as well as he has BECAUSE he is BLACK with that oratory skill ... THAT IS ALL.

I remain a Hillary supporter who will vote MCCAIN
MCCAIN 08 HILLARY 2012

Same Democratic promises and we can anticipate the same results...free tuition, free health care, he will chase Osama into Pakistan...

A for show glitz
C for how to address serious problems
A for delivery
C for not enough specifics

As independent I gave tonight speech A+
(Master peace). God bless I am American in 21st century.

GoodLordNoObamaPlease - Yet another employee of the RNC who makes up one user name after another here to publish such nonsense. If this was truly a Hilary supporter, they would be doing what Hilary is doing - voting for Obama.

A+ , A wonder, historical night. George Stephanopolous - D-

Posted by: Jennifer | Aug 29, 2008 12:51:44 AM

"GoodLordNoObamaPlease" You make a judgement about a speech you didn't listen to? Go ahead and vote for McBush, you're too stupid to be a democrat. Obama is the Man for this era.

Posted by: JonySky | Aug 29, 2008 12:54:25 AM

A++ - Showed me a great difference between his ideas and McCains. I am now solidly voting for Obama. No-brainer. As an independant, I can't help but notice all the republicans do is whine and make childish comments about silly things like sets. Why no plans to get out us of this hellhole Bush made? I think I know now. They DON'T have a plan. I'm sold on Obama, now. Bravo

Posted by: Ellio | Aug 29, 2008 12:55:36 AM

This was spectacular. What a homerun. How could we as Americans not be proud of this young man. What a great step forward for Americans. He is truly a great young man who would represent American PROUD. Great speaker, leader, role model, family man. Need to give Democrats he chance because we can't get down any further. McCain lives in another world. Does not know how MOST Americans live daily. He can't remember how many homes he has.

Posted by: Lena | Aug 29, 2008 12:58:01 AM

A++ He was inspiring, forceful, and gives me great hope this country can be fixed.
I hope to see the special interests groups out of Washington next.

Easily one of the best acceptance speeches in modern history. An out-of- the-park home run. He did what he had to do tonight artfully and eloquently and left the Republicans little ground to stand upon. He clinched my vote this evening. I do not understand how any mature and intelligent American who is not poisoned by partisanship or polluted by predjudice can vote for anyone else. Barak Obama's time has come and he is the next President of our great nation.

Posted by: James | Aug 29, 2008 1:05:46 AM

Ombama presented his speech just the way I had expected. He is a man that can and will deliver our country out of the mess that Bush has put us in. I think that people of America need to stop looking and the color of his skin and look at the contents of what this man can do for us as a people.

Posted by: Evans | Aug 29, 2008 1:05:58 AM

I felt hopeful tonight after listening to Obama's speech, and it's the first time I've felt hopeful about the direction of our country in a long time.

Obama's speech gets an A+++. I liked its balance--that he talked about government's responsibility as well as our individual responsibility. He said exactly what he planned to do and implied he'd fund it by closing corporate tax loopholes, higher big business taxes, and eliminating bureaucratic offices and functions that no longer work.

Sure, his goals are lofty! But if he achieves just 20% of them, we'll at least be going in the right direction whereas McCain will take us deeper and deeper into a Bush-begun bottomless pit.

Obama impresses me as an idealist, but one whose feet are on the ground. We need someone who agenda is open and honest. We need someone who won't spout Christianity and family values when, in reality, his values lie totally with corporate interests, particularly Big Oil. Obama is a breath of fresh air who'll work on making the Bush/Cheney-polluted White House safe and non-toxic again for the future of America.

On the whole I liked his speech, though.
Especially when he got to the part where

That's one of those cute little sayings

OBAMA ROCKED THE HOUSE.

Posted by: 08AMA ALL THE WAY! | Aug 29, 2008 1:13:41 AM

Great speech for the dummies who believe all the promises which he can't deliver.

Posted by: Sluggo | Aug 29, 2008 1:16:24 AM

Do you people even listen to yourselves? Do you even understand what Obama was saying tonight? Can we all just quit drinking the koolaid and really concentrate on the problems?

The DELIVERY of the speech was an B-. (At times, he appeared to get into a 'preacher' style)

The actual TEXT of the speech was a B.

But lets not get this confused. Yes, he's a great speaker when he's reading off a teleprompter.

But Democrats and Independents (I address you because Republicans are not fans of Obama anyways) Obama said tonight he's willing to have a debate with McCain over who has the judgment to be Commander-In-Chief. Ask yourselves this question, if he's willing to have that debate, why won't he agree to a debate? He refuses any debate invitations other than the standard three in Sept/Oct. No more. Why? Lets have a debate if he wants to have a debate.

Furthermore, Obama's now acting as if he's the reason Bush and Iraq have decided to bring troops home. It seems to me the only reason either side has agreed to do it, is because now we can. Ask yourselves this question Dems and Independents... if a surge in Iraq wasn't going to work, as Obama said, how is it going to work in Afghanistan?

Obama plays himself as the candidate above all of the partisan bickering, a man who's able to cross party lines. But he's never put his money where his mouth is. He never really has crossed party lines on a vote that would have made his own party upset. I'm not talking about ethics reform or nuclear proliferation... I'm talking about issues where there was clear partisan deadlock. When has Obama crossed that line and worked with the GOP? The answer is, he hasn't.

What is better than an A+? Best speech I've ever seen!

Posted by: Dean | Aug 29, 2008 1:20:15 AM

An A++++++++++++++++.

He was brilliant tonight. Can't wait to have a President who can intelligently put two words together - something we've lacked for 8 years.

Posted by: Teresa | Aug 29, 2008 1:21:12 AM

I rated Obama's speech an F, not for failure but for fakeness.

Posted by: young voter | Aug 29, 2008 1:27:03 AM

Visuals were spectacular. Film was wonderful. However, I wish that he had kept the same tone of positive inspiration of the film throughout the speech. Way too much dissing of McCain. It wasn't necessary. (Especially considering that Biden has been in the Senate longer than McCain.) And, I really wish that he had fewer gifts in the basket and more concrete direction on doing a few things rather than a laundry list. In that way, it was like one of Clinton's old State of the Unions, and little from those addresses was ever achieved. He's really all about the domestic landscape and I don't think that anything said today gives comfort about his depth in foreign relations. So "A+" for visuals, setting, even the weather worked in his favor! "A" for delivery. "C" for showing an ability to work with the opposition, which will be necessary to really get anything done(especially after McCain congratulated him tonight). and "D" for content and that laundry list of programs--way too much stuff with no end in sight. "Incomplete" on his diplomatic ability to keep us safe, the commander-in-chief's greatest mission.

Posted by: merrybee | Aug 29, 2008 1:28:31 AM

An "A" for the speech.

An "F" for making me believe he means any of it.

His pretty words do not match his record. And that's just all there is to say.

Posted by: Jo | Aug 29, 2008 1:29:45 AM

"And I had to ask myself WHO the hell is this guy and WHat on earth has he really done to deserve all this attention and excitement ...

The answer is hollowly NOTHING ... "

this is why you are ignorant

you keep asking the questions and obama keeps giving you the answers but you decide not to listen... and then claim he has no substance.

This speach was amazing, republicans were hailing it....

Posted by: bhrandon | Aug 29, 2008 1:33:19 AM

bhrandon,

Yes, the entire republican panel on Larry King said it was a great speech.

However the entire panel agreed that his rhetoric does not match his record, AT ALL.

And that is Obama's HUGE problem.

Posted by: Jo | Aug 29, 2008 1:35:03 AM

The Emperor Has No Clothes.

(He does make a fine speech, however)

Posted by: Beth | Aug 29, 2008 1:36:20 AM

The speech was A+. Inspiring, insightful & specific. 78,000 people and thousands more who had to be turned away. An event to go down in history. Mccain is trying to get 10,000 in a Dayton stadium to make his VP annonucement. His team is having problems scrambling to bring people by bus to the event. Gap in enthusiasm you think?

Posted by: Harry | Aug 29, 2008 1:37:49 AM

Reagan made incredibly great speeches.

I notice that never made any of the libs like him.

And Reagan's speeches matched his record and his accomplishments! Actions and words matched!

What a concept!

Posted by: Jo | Aug 29, 2008 1:38:39 AM

Harry, free concerts also help bring in the crowd.

Nice try though.

And Colorado will STILL vote McCain. Lol.

Posted by: Jo | Aug 29, 2008 1:40:09 AM

The Ayers association/friendship will kill Obama's chances in the end.

Thank you God.

President McCain - get good and use to it.

Posted by: Jo | Aug 29, 2008 1:41:34 AM

For every one person who is enthusiastic for Obama, there are 20 people who are turned off by the Messianic spectacle. Gore compared him to Lincoln? OMG. Grab me an air sick bag. By the time this thing is over America will be doing one big collective hurl.

And that is just ONE reason he'll lose.

Posted by: Jo | Aug 29, 2008 1:44:30 AM

Just one more point, for those who made comments about Larry King's guests, Lincoln served 4 yrs in the Illinois state assembly, and one term as a representative. He was a brilliant orator. I guess you could say his rhetoric didn't match his experience either. Same with Clinton and Reagan. Political experience in many cases means little or nothing in the Presidency. Good judgement does.Lincoln and Reagan and Clinton proved that.

Posted by: Harry | Aug 29, 2008 1:45:34 AM

Reagan's deeds matched his record prior to his Presidency? When did that
happen? He certainly was great orator. But he had no experience in foreign policy at all. And if you listen to his oratory back then, as i did, he outlined his foreign policy without ever having done anything in that area.
Regean was neophyte to the Presidency. But hed did have vision and an ability to communicate his vision. i had nothing to do with living up to his rhetoric.

Posted by: Harry | Aug 29, 2008 1:52:32 AM

Jo. I see you got the talking points on time. Good for you! The reason you want to barf is because Barrack isn't a Republican. If you ask people about Reagan...then there's the Messiah! Try taking some Pepto, and then get ready to
listen to McCain's eloquence in a Republican spectacle that I am certain will be jusr barebones I'm sure. I've heard it will be held at the Minneapolis Motel 6 to cut costs, and to Americans just how "down to earth" Republicans can be.

Posted by: Harry | Aug 29, 2008 1:59:19 AM

I am a Democrat: Hillary said Obama was not qualified ... Bill Clinton said Obama was not qualified ... JOE BIDEN said Obama was not qualified.
I agreed with them then ... I agree with them now.
Obama gave a very good speech ... but he needs to do the "work" that he is telling us we must do in order to succeed. He simply has not done the work to qualify him for the highest office in the country. Some of his remarks about McCain were totally false, some were half-truths ... and some were true. Biden was the "weak" choice for VP ... should have been Hillary ... this was Obama's first BIG mistake!

Posted by: Francisco Cardenas | Aug 29, 2008 2:12:00 AM

The feel-good moment will fade fast. Obama's past records and actions belie his words. Once attention is focused on his questionable associates, the doubts will overwhelm all these lofty words. Without his speeches, what really does Obama have? Can anyone testify to his ability to deliver? I still will not vote for him. And I know quite a few will not either.

Posted by: amy | Aug 29, 2008 2:20:59 AM

His speech was excellent!!!! He has great plans for this country and we need him desperately. We really need to turn this country around-it has been going in the wrong direction for too long. His delivery of the speech was fantastic-he is a natural-he was convincing and sincere. I truly hope he is elected President.

Posted by: Lori | Aug 29, 2008 2:21:58 AM

What is all this nonsense about Obama's voting record? He has consistently voted against tax increases for all but the fat cats who pay no taxes and brag about it. He has consistently voted to support civil rights, privacy concerns, and voted against all the Bushie atrocities. Most important he voted against the stupid imperialistic WAR. But give McCain one edge: He has dodged more votes than any other senator! And when he did vote, he lined up like a mewling little puppy behind his hero: George Moron Bush. Do you idiots really want four years of a president even stupider than the present one?

Posted by: DemoHog | Aug 29, 2008 2:23:43 AM

John McCain is not bad

Just inept

I mean who would support
Bush
Bush again
Torture, when you've been tortured
Going into Iraq
a tax break for oneself- amid recession

and than throw a birthday party the day after katrina with W in attendance

not to mention he voted against MLK holiday(only senator ever)

not to mention he voted against Affirmative Action, when he was fervantly for it

not to mention he is against the immigration bill he wrote ( I am not kidding)

I mean if you are following this man, what does that say about you?

Posted by: evan thyme | Aug 29, 2008 2:46:06 AM

A+

A truly extraordinary speech, one that transcends petty red and blue narrow mindedness that we hopefully can arise from, and move forward positively.

He delivered an inspiring vision of a future that can raise us from the quagmire that we’re currently in, not only nationally, but globally.

Posted by: Mark | Aug 29, 2008 2:48:24 AM

Too tough? I thought the GOP thought he wasn't tough enough? The McCain campaign are the ones that called Obama out. With youth and vigor, Obama showed he is ready to stand up to anyone who questions his strength and temperament and, by extension serve as Commander and Chief. The way they're spinning it, it's clear McCain's campaign see that they've roused a formidable opponent who will fight toe-to-toe and are now backpedaling knowing there is no way they can match that same passion or fire.

Posted by: MurrowBoy | Aug 29, 2008 3:02:44 AM

Obviously, many people on this blog are not experienced in critical thinking. The speech was a concoction of liberal platitudes with no substance. As P.T. Barnum said, you will never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

Posted by: Sluggo | Aug 29, 2008 3:03:25 AM

My 78 year old mother, a lifelong Republican, called me from Arkansas tonight after Obama's speech.

She was almost speechless, very moved, and told me that she and my father - also a lifelong Republican - will be voting for Obama.

I've never heard her like that. I'm stunned.

Posted by: wilderrr | Aug 29, 2008 3:03:46 AM

A+++- the most inspirational American Speech for me since John F Kennedy. I am 62, a Vietnam Veteran , and a proud American tonight. Obama will have my vote. I am so proud of my country tonight. The most important political night since the nomination of John F Kennedy.

Posted by: Sluggo | Aug 29, 2008 3:07:47 AM

Overall grade, a C+. Delivery / oratory, a B. Substance a C-.

Re delivery / oratory, he misfired on a few key moments as when he was speaking directly to John McCain. He clutched near the end and stumbled and wandered a bit. Most importantly, there was no crescendo and no great line that captured the moment. Admittedly, tall orders, but great orators deliver. He also had the unenviable task of besting his 2004 speech, which he did not do.

Re substance, if one cuts through all the fanfare, the flaws are obvious and not insignificant. The theme was "things are really bad and I'm here to save you." By his own admission, the U.S. has the largest economy and the strongest military. Hence things aren't really as terrible as he would have us believe. He lays most of the blame at George Bush's feet in accord with the rather lame attempt to portray John McCain as part of the Bush dynasty. But if Washington is broken, he, Biden and their fellow Democrats have to take some of the blame since they're Washington too. As we all know Congress's numbers are worse than the President's. Besides, blaming Mr. Bush for all that ails us is too facile, extremely unsophisticated (the country is far too complex for one man to be responsible for much) and ultimately boring. Finally, his abortion ploy was breathtakingly cynical. Bottom line: there were too many substantive flaws, most notably logical inconsistencies, for this to be a great speech.

Then again, he was stuck with his material. A bit more creativity would have helped.

Posted by: Stephen J | Aug 29, 2008 3:09:13 AM

I listened to every word Obama said and I head the man who will truly take this broken country into the new Camelot of the 21st century I heard not only his words but I saw in his eyes a man who truely loves his country but also a man who will keep his promises to all americans and will not only be the leader in Washington but will be the voice of all the american people

Posted by: Bruce | Aug 29, 2008 3:11:22 AM

I gazed into his eyes and thought about heaven. I thought about soldiers who gave their lives for this great land. Then it struck me hard-Obama was full of poop as a Christmas turkey.

Posted by: Sluggo | Aug 29, 2008 3:14:57 AM

Greatest speech in fifty years. And I've been around long enough to have seen JFK in person.

Obama is a GREAT American. Once in a generation leader.

Only people who hate America could hate him or his words.

Posted by: Ranger | Aug 29, 2008 3:16:00 AM

One comment re Nightline: Many of us have noted that the quality of the show has suffered over the last several years. Having George Stephanopoulos as the only one grading the speech is emblematic of the decline. George seems fairly bright and works hard, but at the end of the day he's a young Clinton acolyte. How about a couple others with more pedigree and balance?

a very intelligent capable and good man who expressed all these qualities in his speech. I've noticed his critics including McCain tend to be immature in their attacks. Mccain is out of touch and bought by the system.

Posted by: anya | Aug 29, 2008 5:16:12 AM

After 8 years of George W Bush, it was great to see a president who can speak in complete sentences.

Did I say president? It's a done deal now. Americans are tired of the hate/ fear based Republican party. Tired of exclusion and militant christian superiority. Keep commenting Republicans, every post demonstrates my point.

Posted by: John Francis | Aug 29, 2008 5:41:39 AM

Yes a spectacular event but a "C" for the lack of any details. "Change happens because the American people demand it, because they rise up and insist on new ideas and new leadership, a new politics for a new time,"---what just follow me, and I will (what?). Obama stole another famous line from the movie The American President with Michael Douglas...McCain "doesn't get it" and then goes on to say he will debate him anywhere....the famous speech of Michael Douglas at the end of the movie. No real substance, no details---I guess, just follow Obama to the cliff and if I fall over it you will too.

Posted by: Mike | Aug 29, 2008 5:51:49 AM

Obama and Michelle made a success of their lives and they did it in the last 8 Years. Obama has associated with dubious and uncertain people (AYERS, REV. WRIGHT etc.) and associations (ACORN) during the last 8 years. He has absolutely no military experience, a few legislations which reflect his EXTREME liberal views. What does he bring to the White House, few good speeches using a teleprompter and the promise of “hope” and “change” with no details? Obviously “hope and change” does not apply to his family or his friends, well except his friend Rezko the criminal going to jail for voter fraud and more.

Obama speech failed to address why he followed Jeremiah Wright for 20 years.

For this reason, Obama's speech gets an F.

Obama's words claim one thing, but his actions over the last 20 years prove that he shared Jeremiah Wright's radical social views.

Beautiful speech, brilliant man, great leader. Extremely powerful.

I doubt if anybody can fix what the Republicans have done to America...but it will take a man like Obama for us to have any chance at all.

After all these years of darkness, the future is looking bright again.

The world can't wait.

Democrats have to prove they love America...because they're Democrats.

We all know Republicans love America...they just hate 75% of the people living here.

I'll still take the smart guy from Harvard over the moron who graduated in the BOTTOM 1% to lead the country.

McCain has not proposed a single thing that will improve this nation.

Any working class American that thinks the GOP is going to help them is an easily manipulated moron that can't even recall the last eight years of history. But say the word "freedom", "patriotism", or "terrorism" and they'll buy into what ever is said afterwards.

D-
OBAMA MANIPULATES LIKE THE LAWYER HE IS, THE JOHNNIE COCHRAN OF POLITICS

Using voting as the only measure to compare McCain and Bush is patently dishonest.

Obama made a very dishonest, manipulative statement, just like a lawyer would.

Obama said McCain is only 10% different from Bush because of his voting record.

But what about all the things that had nothing to do with voting?

The Surge, Climate Change, Anwar, Torture, Guantanamo Bay, etc, you fill in the blanks.

Obama is manipulative and sneaky.
Especially by omitting facts, like when Obama tries to say McCain wants "To be in Iraq for 100 years"

Not only did Obama and moveon.org change what McCain said from "we may be" to "he wants to be".

They also omit that McCain said- if there wasn't any Casualties we may have a Presence there like
we do in many other countries.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO EXPOSE OBAMA'S MANIPULATIVE, SNEAKY LANGUAGE.

OBAMA IS TRYING TO LAWYER HIS WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE.

For Obama, debating in a Town Hall or going on Oreilly is like taking the Stand.

As a lawyer he knows he must not put himself on the stand.

The American people should not forget he is a lawyer like Clinton.

They use sneaky dramatics. JOHNNIE COCHRAN would be proud.

George come on...the fireworks? Who Cares? The stage...who cares? This former diehard Hilary supporter doesn't. I care about what he says and what his stands are on the issues of our time. I think the choice which I was so ambivalent about before has become clear. Read his plan. Listen to what he says. If you make more than 250,000 a year don't vote for Obama vote for McCain. If you want us to be in Iraq for 200 more years don't vote for Obama vote for McCain. If you think America is only for rich, white old men don't vote for Obama vote for McCain. I don't think this is about the drama...this is about the CONTENT. But since McCain only seems to have the same tired old plan and failed Bush CONTENT his supporters are now reduced to criticizing the fireworks, and the stage, and the fact that Obama is perfectly capable of stating his position in an excellent political speech, which also included words of more than one syllable. And btw he knew how to pronounce those words, too.

That was not a nomination acceptance, it was a coronation, had plenty of animals in house, the only thing lacking were the three wise men.

Cry me a river Dem's, Obama Picks the most up-tight, puckered, old hack in Washington. Change you can believe in???
McCain makes a bold move, picking a solid reformer, who knows how to cut big government. The Bonus, did I mention she is an exceptional woman, with proven government cutting credentials.

A 73-year old man with cancer picking a "hockey mom" as next-in-line for Commander in Chief?

The only ones more thrilled than James Dobson and the Radical Religious Rightwing tonight are those other religious fanatics, Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. They must be partying BIGTIME tonight and already making plans for America in anticipation of that day.

Sarah 'Hockey Mom' Palin is a gift from Allah to all terrorists around the world.

John W McCain has betrayed America just to get a few more votes. Disgusting.

Obama makes great speeches, but his judgment and principles are suspect. He sounds decisive, but a legislator who votes "present" on all the tough issues because he doesn't want to leave a record of what he really believes is extremely scary to me. Who is this man? What does he really stand for? Does he have any principles he can state firmly without hedging?

Great Job!!!!!!! He get an AAAAAAA++++ I love everything he stands for. I am voting for him and don't care what anyone thinks.

The fireworks was out of sight and I love every minute of it. He was not too hard on McCain. If you can't stand the heat get of the kitchen.

Seeing America made so proud by the performance of its athletes at the Beijing Olympiad, we are reminded in these troubled times that our country is still capable of greatness. So many of our fine Olympians are of African-American heritage. Their brothers and sisters have lived in this country centuries before we became an independent nation; they have enriched our culture through unique gifts; they have shed blood in the defense of our freedom; they have suffered under oppression and neglect and still strive for greatness and community.

We are a nation that claims to respect people who take charge of their own lives and excel. Now, when a promising leader has emerged in the person of Barack Obama, of partial African-American heritage, I cannot fathom that a significant number of American citizens have revealed in poll surveys that they will not vote for a presidential candidate who is even partially African-American. Shame on the bigotry that still persists in our country, and shame on any American, whether acting as an individual or through a partisan campaign, that exploits intolerance for gain in a national election.

Sluggo, Jerry, Jo, Roger Miller and ubdjudge all need straight-jackets. Somebody hurry up and get them some help. I'm not mad at them, I really feel sorry for them! And I'm also sorry that I won't get to see their responses because I don't plan on returning to this website until after the election.

Huh!

What a Loser! Mr. Obama you need to go back to school or somewhere so that you can get in touch with reality. More Government Programs is not the way to make this Country stronger. You have to trim the spending and balance the budget. You must keep the Troops overseas until their missions are complete. Do not Retreat. And for your information, being President does not offer On-The-Job Training. But in your case, they have to. DDDD

Obama gets an *E* for Excellent. He thinks like I do, therefore, I understand where he's coming from.

The best lines he spoke were when he said it was "not about _him_, but about (us)...!!!" We _ALL_ need to "take back America!" Government is not only FOR and OF the People - but _BY_ the People! If we want to run this country, we ALL have to work towards cleaning it up - and keeping it clean!

I was so sick of the 4 day democratic party from link sausages, that it was difficult to watch. He is making a lot of promises that can't be met. We had a democratic president like him in Jimmy Carter. He promised the voters so much and never fullfilled one promise. The unemployment was the highest it had been for years. Prime interest rate was over 20%. The highest income tax rate wss the highest I had ever seen. People in poverty was paying the highest taxes they had ever paid in my working years.
Think about it.

An inspiring and incredible speech by Obama. He clearly stated his position and how he plans to bring this country back to the power it once was. It'a so clear that the current adminsitration has brought us to a place we have not been in my lifetime, lower than we have been since the great depression! Wake up America...We need a Change! And for all you bigots out there, you are the minority!!
