Report Card: Will You Watch Obama's Infomercial?

October 28, 2008 11:18 PM

Tomorrow Senator Obama will use 30-minutes of prime-time television to deliver his closing argument to the American people.  With the election less than a week away and the Obama ticket holding a steady lead in many of the polls, some pundits have called the tomorrow's commercial risky.

ABC News' Chief Washington Correspondent, George Stephanopoulos gave his analysis on tonight's 'Nightline'.

But what do you think?  Will you watch tomorrow's infomercial and if so, what can Senator Obama tell you that you don't already know?

No, I would rather watch paint dry. I already voted and have no need for the lies that the empty suit will spew.

Posted by: Jessica | Oct 28, 2008 11:39:36 PM

Yep.

Posted by: Deep Release | Oct 28, 2008 11:41:07 PM

No, I won't be watching. Chances are he'll flip flop on whatever he says anyway. Just as he has with alot of things thru the campaign. Fluff, No substance you can count on.

Posted by: Georgie | Oct 28, 2008 11:47:12 PM

Nope I will not watch. I stop watching ABC since the one sided election coverage in all your \ programming. You report lies!! I was flipping channels and briefly saw tonight you are reporting white supremacy. HOW ABOUT Jeramiajh Wright and Father Flagrant and Louis Farrakan. They are not racist and preach segregation?? Where is ABC sense of reporting ??? Lost in 2008.

Posted by: millie | Oct 28, 2008 11:47:42 PM

Nope!

Posted by: KP | Oct 28, 2008 11:55:08 PM

yup

Posted by: Jeremy | Oct 28, 2008 11:58:52 PM

Yes, I look forward to watching Barack Obama put the final nail in McCain's political coffin. Barack will make an incredible President. So long Sarah and John...don't forget to vote for Barack. Without votes, we don't win!

Posted by: Louise Riley | Oct 28, 2008 11:59:37 PM

yes i will definately be watching!

Posted by: st | Oct 29, 2008 12:00:31 AM

Poor wittle Repubs, stick your heads in the sand until 2016, only to be beaten then by Hillary (or maybe Chelsea).

I'll watch, I want to see what our next President has to say.

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

Posted by: Ed from MA | Oct 29, 2008 12:01:45 AM

The only ones who will watch this are those that have already made up their minds to vote for Obama. I am still an undecided and I wouldn't watch a 30 minute ad by either candidate. I have much better things to do with my time. This money is wasted and that is a shame considering the state of our economy.

Posted by: mn | Oct 29, 2008 12:02:55 AM

Sure will. OBAMA-BIDEN ' 08!

Posted by: Kelly Murtowski | Oct 29, 2008 12:03:29 AM

I most certainly will be watching. Will be refreshing to see Obama speak uninterrupted. He has to clear up all the lies, rumors, and untruths that McCain, Palin, and their cronies have been trying to con the electorate with.

Posted by: JLS | Oct 29, 2008 12:06:03 AM

Are you kidding?

More of his lies like we have not enough?

What a WASTE OF GOOD MONEY. WHY DONT HE JUST SPREAD THAT INFOMERCIAL MONEY AROUND INSTEAD.

HEY, OBAMA, JUST SPREAD THAT INFOMERCIAL MONEY AROUND - NOONE WANTS TO HEAR MORE OF YOUR LIES ...

I HAVE ALREADY VOTED ANYWAY . - GUESS WHO I VOTED FOR, BO?

MCCAIN/PALIN - ha ha ha ha ha

Posted by: STOP YOUR LIES, OBAMA | Oct 29, 2008 12:06:11 AM

This idiot is only about HIMSELF ...

Mind you, he wants us all to use 8 hours of vacation FOR HIM ...

HE WANTS YOU TO SPREAD YOUR VACATION AROUND BESIDES YOUR INCOME, AMERICA

HE WANTS YOU TO SPREAD YOUR VACATION TO HIM ... MIND YOU, TAKE 8 HOURS OFF TO VOTE FOR HIM?

WHAT A FREAK ... !!!! I GOT MORE USE FOR MY 8 HOURS THAN TO GIVE IT TO YOU, FREAK

Posted by: Spread your Vacation around as well, Obamamaniacs | Oct 29, 2008 12:09:54 AM

I would rather have my teeth drilled. Enough already! I think he has gall with this infomercial. Let us watch the World Series in peace and at a reasonable hour. God knows we need an escape from the baggering!

Posted by: tina martin | Oct 29, 2008 12:09:59 AM

No -- I don't need to listen to Barack explain more ways in which he will spread the wealth around. If I wanted to live under socialism, I'd move to another country. I think this guy is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Posted by: dorothy | Oct 29, 2008 12:13:41 AM

Do you suppose he will use this time to finally produce a certified copy of his birth certificate? Since so far he refuses to do so, and being a naturalized citizen of the US is a constitutional requirement to be President of the US......of course this is being discussed all over the Chicago News radio stations, yet you ABC and your biased reporting somehow think it's not a 'newsworthy' thing to report. Perhaps he will clear this matter up personally......would be a refreshing change.....

Posted by: Not a fan | Oct 29, 2008 12:15:42 AM

Yes, I am have been looking forward to watching our future President!!!

Posted by: Irma | Oct 29, 2008 12:16:29 AM

Stop Your Lies Obama,

I agree, McCain-Palin is very funny...ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha

Posted by: Randy | Oct 29, 2008 12:16:32 AM

Yes, I will watch.

Most of the people with the negative comments make less than $250,000 and some have no health insurance. This should be a no brainer about the vote but not everyone has a brain. Fortunately, I get it.

Posted by: Cynthia | Oct 29, 2008 12:17:06 AM

No. What's the point to listen to 30 minutes of all the same old lines. As others have said, the only ones who will watch are those who have already made up their minds to vote for him. It's best to get behind the politics and actually learn what these candidates believe.

Posted by: Bob in Georgia | Oct 29, 2008 12:17:30 AM

Posted by: Randy | Oct 29, 2008 12:17:49 AM

Would not miss it. Even though I already voted same day as Bush and am happy to say I CANCELLED Bush's vote out. hhahahahaha.

Posted by: Newsrook | Oct 29, 2008 12:19:01 AM

Why would anyone watch Obama's infomercial when we are bombarded with them 24/7 by the media.

I WOULD watch a good investigative report by ABC, or any of the mainstream news outlets on Obama's lies, associations with unsavory individuals, refusal to release college and IL Senate records, etc. I would also watch the video the L.A. Times refuses to release showing Obama attending Rashid Khalidi's send-off party with Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn when Khalidi left Chicago for New York.

Posted by: LJC | Oct 29, 2008 12:19:28 AM

yeah ill watch it, what'll he lie about next??? (sarc.)

Posted by: jason | Oct 29, 2008 12:21:47 AM

Yes I will watch it, it is a great idea. Too bad McCain didn't think of it first.

Posted by: lanawonders | Oct 29, 2008 12:23:21 AM

Won't be watching and I find it hard to believe more people haven't seen through Obama and his slick, snake oil salesman, rhetoric. I have a real problem listening to anyone that wants to 'redistribute wealth' to those who haven't earned it. The last thing we need is more government run entitlement programs.

Posted by: Don Wenneman | Oct 29, 2008 12:23:34 AM

NO (as many times as I can say it)!! This is the most self-serving, conceited, insane thing he could do. He is so full of himself. If this is the best America can do, we are truly in for BAD, BAD times. He is really going to do bad things for America with his socialist ideas. If he truly does have an inauguration day, it will be a sad day for America - flags should fly at half mast.

Posted by: Ronda | Oct 29, 2008 12:24:44 AM

Of course. I like to be an educated voter and see all sides. If McCain was doing one I'd watch his too.

Posted by: Chad | Oct 29, 2008 12:25:00 AM

Hey newsrook, didn't you hear, McCain bankrolled Khalidi as late as 1998. :P

Who is the real John McCain?

Posted by: thorfinn | Oct 29, 2008 12:25:24 AM

I will be watching. I enjoy all his speeches, and I won't mind watching him again.I can't wait to see the difference he will be making.

Posted by: Adama Crocker | Oct 29, 2008 12:25:27 AM

I will definitely be watching!! I can't wait. It is time that our country has a person of higher intelligence and with some basic common sense in the White House. I voted early for Obama.

Posted by: Lor | Oct 29, 2008 12:27:04 AM

Obama is wasting his money big time for the prime time infomercial.

People are already sick of hearing too much about Obama considering the sickening media bias in this campaign and Obama's tactics are backfiring.

As they say, a fool and his money are easily parted.

Posted by: Gregory Hynes | Oct 29, 2008 12:27:25 AM

I will watch,I don't want to lose my home in the next eight years.

Posted by: Ferda | Oct 29, 2008 12:28:14 AM

No why would I watch anything has to to do with a bunch of liberal democrat lies. That is why our country is where it is now. They have been in control since 2006! NOT THE REPUBLICANS.

Posted by: wayne | Oct 29, 2008 12:30:23 AM

"If I wanted to live under socialism, I'd move to another country"

It is hard to believe there are some Americans who think letting temporary tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans expire is socialism. These same people would prefer to pay higher taxes in order to subsidize cuts for the wealthiest Americans and the largest corporations who ship our jobs away.
If you have not noticed, we have had a progressive income tax system for the past 100 years... and I do not recall anyone calling it socialism. If we had a decent educational system in this country, Obama would have at least 95% of the popular vote.

Sorry you're wrong. Anytime Obama does a speech his poll numbers go up along with his favor ability.

You might be decided, but there are still many who are not.

Why do you think Obama got so far ? His voice. His vision.

It's funny you say it's a waste, but he is the one polling at an average of 50%.
Seems to be working just fine.

That is laughable. When we look back in history does anyone blame congress? NO. When we look back, whether its positive or negative it falls on the President.

If the President saw something wrong with something Congress has done he can issue a Signing Statement [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signing_statements ] and fix it. It seems Bush hasn't had a problem issuing 110 already... This is why when we look back on history, bad or good things fall on the PRESIDENT, NOT congress. Please tell me where we have ever look back in history and blamed congress. Everything falls on the President because he is in charge.

Posted by: Chad | Oct 29, 2008 12:40:09 AM

DON'T KNOW. PROBABLY BE AT CHURCH. WILL BE INTERESTING TO HEAR WHAT IF ANY NEW LIE HE HAS FORMULATED TO HOODOO THE AMERICAN WELFARE RECIPIENTS;PEOPLE WHO ARE ON A FIXED INCOME AND SCARED TO DEATH BY THE DEMOCRATS WHO TELL THEM "THE REPUBLICANS ARE GONNA TAKE ALL YOUR MONEY AWAY"; AND ILLEGALS WHO ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE INTO "CASTING YOUR VOTE FOR CHANGE". IF HE HAPPENS TO BECOME THE NEXT PRESIDENT, GOD HELP AMERICA CAUSE SHE WILL BE DESTROYED BY HIM AND HIS ARMY.

Yes I will watch, we in OH need help, the Republican's I do not think even know we are on the map. They do for election's only, then they forget we part of the United States. We are not Washington, DC. but OHIO.

Definitely watching the next president's first national address! GO OBAMA!

Posted by: Jim | Oct 29, 2008 12:47:49 AM

No history does not blame congress but they are really the ones charge. Everything is blamed on Bush from hurricanes to earthquakes. Obama even blames Bush.

Posted by: wayne | Oct 29, 2008 12:49:32 AM

Can't do it! I have kept a very open mind thru out the whole campaign. Watched all nights of Dem Convention and all nights of Rep Conv. Barack is a very eloquent speaker and is persuasive...of course, he's a lawyer! After you really study what he stands for and what he's promising, you will see he's building a house of cards. He has NO EXPERIENCE....distributing wealth is so disturbing to me. You don't reward people who don't file taxes with the money from people who get up and go to work everyday. You don't distribute my tax dollars to people who have not come into this country legally. You don't create jobs by raising taxes on businesses....I won't mention his associations, religious beliefs, upside down economic thinking, nationality, or senate voting history. These infommercials on several major network channels is a sure sign of Government spending WASTE of whats to come....how irresponsible! He's so far ahead...whats his point! I was swindled once by a used car salesman and I swore I would never be taken again by a smooth talking liar! It won't be nails in McCain's coffin it will be nails in Uncle Sam's coffin! There are plenty of qualified African American's who do have experience...Please don't vote for Obama just because of his skin color... WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Posted by: Susan | Oct 29, 2008 12:49:32 AM

I can not believe all the stupid things some people on this post are saying. Enough already. Do you honestly think that if Obama wasn't a US citizen he'd be running for president? or if he was a muslim? I keep seeing these comments on ALL the news posts. go check the facts! (it's called Google!)
McCain has shady aquaintances too. Again check the facts!

Posted by: Sandy | Oct 29, 2008 12:53:58 AM

Yep. Going to watch. We finally have someone who cares about the middle class. McCain taxing our benefits from work, will put me even deeper with no money.

Posted by: Mike in KY | Oct 29, 2008 12:55:54 AM

Look all you stupid democrats. Do you really believe that Obama has the experience to bring our cuontry out of this economics problem we face. Not a chance. He is a nobody from the senate. I truly dont know what happened to the democratic party. Bill Clinton is smart as hell. And then you bring obama to the plate. Poor guy hope Biden is ready lead.

Posted by: 37 yr old guy | Oct 29, 2008 1:15:31 AM

I only hope that all of those who are not voting for Obama will have the patriotic will to donate the money they would be given back from their lower taxes to people who really need it.

Hypocrisy is a very bad habit.

Obama for America!

ENOUGH OF REPUBLICANS IN POWER.

Posted by: Al | Oct 29, 2008 1:16:39 AM

Why isn't Obama in jail already?

Because all the things that are said about him are LIES....

Republicans have nothing about Obama so they lie.

Republicans do not care for the country. They only care to remain in power.

That is all!

ENOUGH OF REPUBLICAN LIES AND MANIPULATIONS.

How many more hints from God do we need to understand that we are on the wrong side of things.

I suspect people not supporting Obama would be watching more - to find some desperate things to put in foxnews! I would be watching. It would be interesting hear from people like Colin Powell and Warren Buffett. As Obama is most likely to be taking advice from these people, I would like to get a full understanding of their views on areas of their respective expertise.

Posted by: jonathanw | Oct 29, 2008 1:34:02 AM

yep

Posted by: marlyn | Oct 29, 2008 1:35:46 AM

yes I will.

I have watched all of the interviews and speeches this week - of all candidates.

The McCain battle cry "we are winning" ones to the Obama "don't let us be divided" ones.

The McCain party gets to tell their lies...which I fact check to their embarrassment

The Obama party gets to tell their corrections of all the lies...which they fact checked....

And I voted for Obama on 20 Oct 08 - leaving the Obama rally line to vote after waiting 2 hours with other Obama voters...

I am a republican...but have had enough lies, treasonous actions, and personal issues first to last a lifetime. My president and vice president are liars, and have put my friends and family who are in the service in to harms way - all for their own agendas.

Let the dreamer with no experience have a chance --- we didn't hesitate to allow the wealthy idiot from Texas to have his attempt to mess up the country...nothing could be worse than what he did, NOTHING!

I cant BELIEVE ANYONE ON THIS POST would actually vote for 4 MORE YEARS OF WHAT WE'VE JUST BEEN THROUGH.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE UPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!! I hope your all doing well on the money, health care, job, and housing fronts because these necessities do not care if your Democrat or Republican.

No Way!! You honestly think God is on the side of a pro-abortion, radical, talk "around" the truth, man who sat in a "church" for 20 years listening to a "preacher" spew hatred against whites and jews. Who also denies having friends like Ayers and Khalidi. May God help this country if he is elected!

No lynn.........May Allah help you. It appears you will be needing it more than anyone within the United States.

How will you ever survive with one dimensional social skills while attempting to live in a three dimensional environment?

Crying now and planning on a Heaven's Gate one-way trip November 4th? I'm hearing that's getting booked in full for all cynics in deep denial.

Should be interesting to see what exactly Obama has planned. On another note watch on Friday - Osama Bin Laden will rear his ugly head to endorse John McCain by praising Obama. Bin Laden knows his only hope to remain a free man is to help elect another currupt do nothing, no nothing Republican.

Posted by: freedomfighter1975 | Oct 29, 2008 2:08:24 AM

History shows that when the world evolves into an crisis condition an extraordinary person rises to become the exemplary role model for all.

I believe Barack Obama will prove himself to be this kind of leader. I also see him redefining class from being something judged by how much money you make into something that is measured by how you treat other people.

This kind of change is that the world needs to overcome the catastrophe at hand. Over two hundred years after the White house was built by slaves I am in awe that I have lived to finally see a family of color take residence there as the leader of our nation that their ancestors worked tirelessly to help build.

The next historical chapter of American history is about to begin....and we were all here helping it to happen!!! WOW!

Osama Bin Laden's family are good friends of the Bush family. Bush's best buddy in the National Guard became the financial adviser for the Bin Laden family who invested in George W. Bush's oil well drilling company in Texas when is Dad was President.

Bush isn't really trying to find Bin Laden. Otherwise we would have him in custody. How hard to find can a 6'6" man dragging around a dialysis machine in the desert really be? Especially with today's technology and after spending $3 trillion....

Osama will definitely be voting for McCain and Palin.... so he can retire wealthy along with the rest of his republican family.

Posted by: I.M. Ashamed | Oct 29, 2008 2:31:11 AM

I wished Obama would cut loose the horses and tell the world all that the republican majority has done to cause the economic disaster. Deregulation of Oil, Wall Street, the banking industry and big business... will cost trillions of dollars to arrest and repair. The damage they have done will take over a decade to fix and that is only if we have the best honest people fixing it....

Let the dogs out Barack and tell us what they did to rob us blind!!!

My dollar is only worth a fifty cents to a quarter at the grocery store. My dollar was only a quarter at the gas pumps until recently when the Bush's told the Saudis that republicans would be wiped out of Congress and the gig would be up if they didn't drop the bottom out of gas prices....

It's just this simple.... If your not worth four time what you were eight years ago and making at least four times as much annually you have gotten poorer...under republican leadership....

Republicans are willing to say anything in their campaigns because they have done nothing to brag about. Plus they have everything to fear if their track record is examined by voters before Nov. 4th....

Clean republicans out of politics and save the American Dream!!!

Posted by: Ed C. | Oct 29, 2008 2:44:47 AM

No, I'd rather watch paint dry. I know who I'm voting for -- it isn't the lying suit with all the props, smokes and mirrors telling me that more of the same is a change. Vote Obama 2008!!! Vote for something instead of voting against everything!!

Posted by: jim in California | Oct 29, 2008 2:45:13 AM

Barack Obama clearly demonstrated that his campaign promises are meaningless when he turned down public financing and voted for FISA. Why bother listen to another word he has to say? He is just another lying politician doing what is best for himself.

Evidence of RNC Robo-Comments jam the web.

Notice how McCain and McCain supporters are only able to regurgitate attack ad venom and twisted talking points. Try making an argument, or making sense, or telling the truth.

I bet Obama will spend most of his half hour making a case for a way forward in the world, rather that casting dispersion on his opponent. Spite and Fear can only lead further into the darkness. Hope and Love are the only way back to the light.

The Sun will shine again Tuesday night!

With all the devastating hurricanes we have had, fires, tornadoes, etc., and the economic downfall from the last 2 years, I find it appalling at the amount of money being spent campaigning.

I have watched more than enough news coverage. In fact, I have had to watch many news channels just trying to get the whole story. Too much bias, very sad.

I, for one, would have liked seeing Obama spread the wealth of his campaign funds to us - the middle-class. Being an independent, he would have definitely gotten my vote then.

Ladies, and Gentlemen,The next president of the United States of America! Barack Obama! He is smart, intelligent, can speak a sentence correctly, articulate, evenheaded, believes in commonsense diplomacy, believes that you build the economy by investing in the middle class, does not believe in trickle down voodoo economics like George W and McCain, and he's ready to assume the most powerful office in the world. The world has already voted for him to bring a modicum of peace and commonsense to our foreign policy. Let us not disappoint the world and vote for Obama..John McCain is George Bush all over again and Palin is Cheney in a dress.

no i have heard enough from obama.

he should spread the wealth and spend the money by helping a few hundred people with their mortgage instead.

or better yet clean up crime in chicage where the murder rate rivals american soldiers killed in iraq.

chad,

If Obama can convince people through infomercials and tv ads then why he has not manage to seal the deal despite spending more than 500 million dollars on the campaign so far?

Obama is a ego maniac who wastes money like water, you can be sure that his infomericals wont work and will backfire on his campaign. It will be a total bore and most people who watch will be dedicated Obama voters and not the undecided voters in this election.

Hey Guys don't get mad at me and I may be wrong but does'nt joe the plummer look like a skin head? When you look at the crowd at McCain's campaign you only see sad looking white people exclusively...when you look at the crowd at an Obama rally you see "America"(White, black, asian, hispanic, native American etc. The same distribution at the Democratic convention. The Republican party is losing ground and is looking more like a skin head or Klan organization. Heaven help us all and save us from the Republicans! One more thing! All you Republican bloggers who talk about ABC being biased to Obama..assuming that is true..what about Fox news with Sean(the comedian)Hannity and Bill(spinning all night)O'Reilly..are they biased to McCain..if that is so then there is balance..you shut up! You Republican losers!

I think many people watch this commercial with different reason.

1)Lean obama people will watch carefully to be assured of their decision.
2) strong obama supporters will watch with enthusiasm.
3) Diehard Maccain supporters will watch it for curiosity... just like I was watching RNC convention.

Only people who are not interested in this election, who will probably stay at home will not watch this.

This commercial is intended for Soft obama voters who are leaning towards obama, but not commited yet.

From the recent poll, the soft obama supporters are 2.6 percent of the whole likely voters.

If their decision is solidified, then obama's victory is certain because his electoral vote is far ahead 270 now.

I wouldn't waste my time and electricity. I'm sick and tired of hearing and seeing him on TV along with his buddies, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Christopher Dodd. I have no respect for an individual who seeks to be elected President of the United States and refuses to salute and show respect to the U.S. Flag. Also, his wife, who stated she is finally proud to be an American. When I see the huge crowds that follow Obama, I think of Hitler and the 3rd Reich. During this campaign, I've thought many times of my deceased father, a Democrat and a proud WW II veteran. He fought in Hitler's Germany to preserve our freedoms. If only he would hear/see the comments/actions of the Obama's, he'd turn over in his grave.

Of COURSE I'll watch, all the way from China ... as long as the streams are working!!!

No Thanks. I'd much rather watch Hillary run again (and win!) in 2012, regardless of her recent (obligatory) campaigning for the guy.
