Closing Arguments: U.N. Cease-Fire Resolution
January 08, 2009 11:58 PM
The renewed fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip has been going on since December 27. More than 750 Palestinians and 14 Israelis have been killed.
But late tonight, a United Nations resolution was passed by 14 key Arab nations and Western powers calling for an immediate cease-fire.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has supported the terms of the resolution, but abstained from voting because she wanted to make sure Hamas would abide by the cease-fire.
So tonight, we ask you: Will the U.N. resolution bring peace to Gaza?
Tell us what you think.

UN is a joke! Resolutions do not stop terrorists, Hammas, hezbollah etc. It only protects them.
Hezbollah is armed more than ever before against UN resolution. What has the UN do about it? Nothing. This organization should be shut down! NY could use the facility for better purposes.

Someone once said, "if Hamas puts down their weapons- there will be peace. If Israel puts down their weapons - they will be destroyed. Why is it okay for rockets to be shot into Israel but when Israel does it back - suddenly its a world problem. Why isn't a world problem in the first place? Why was it allowed to escalate to this point? If the world cared as soon as Hamas fired rockets into Israel and did something about that then, we wouldn't be here today. Everyone turned their head to the bully and now its an emergency. Typical.

NATAN SHARANSKY said it all in his WSJ editorial
"At the U.N., no surprise, this double-standard is in full force. In response to Israel's attack on Hamas, the Security Council immediately pulled an all-night emergency meeting to consider yet another resolution condemning Israel. Have there been any all-night Security Council sessions held during the seven months when Hamas fired 3,000 rockets at half a million innocent civilians in southern Israel? You can be certain that during those seven months, no midnight oil was burning at the U.N. headquarters over resolutions condemning terrorist organizations like Hamas. But put condemnation of Israel on the agenda and, rain or shine, it's sure to be a full house.[...]"

Often I wonder "where is the UN when the missles are falling on Israel? Why is there ONLY any mention of the problem when Israel moves to defend itself?
I'm not Jewish, but I am outraged that the whole thing is so one sided against Israel.
I just hope the US continues to be supportive. If we stop, we will be in BIG trouble.

Are Jewish lives more important than Palestinian lives? The U.S. should issue Israel an ultimatum, and stop selling or giving Israel weapons that kill children and innocents indiscriminately. Western media are barred from covering that war firsthand. Is this an attempt to hide the the truth? Why is Israel getting a pass?

Why can't the U.S. just butt out of other countries business? These countries have been fighting for years and nothing we is going to stop them because each one feels they are right and the other is wrong for the way things should be. Who are we to try and get in the middle when we have our own problems at home that the government can't solve like unemployment and homelessness. Before we go trying to solve the worlds problems lets look in our own backyard and find out why we aren't doing so good.
I feel for those people over there but with rising gas prices again and the fact people are losing their homes I'm more comcerned wtih what is going on here. our sticking our nose in where it doesn't belong is part of the reason our economy is in the toilet.

Israel is now using white phosphorus munitions probably obtained from the US on a civilian population. As a taxpayer, I get upset when my goverment is funding the slaughter of civilians. AIPAC should be declared a terrorist organization and not be allowed to bribe my congressmen. If support of Israel is SO logical, why do they have to try to influence our elections with millions in campaign cash. Americans should stand up and demand better.

America should stop giving weapons to Israel, the Palestinians should not have to dig tunnels to receive weapons from Iran, they have the right to have these weapons. In a war all is fair especially hiding behind women and children. Israelis should learn how to swim because that's the way they'll leave Israel if the Muslim world has its way and of course the peaceful Palestinians are not in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting Americans there. When Israel pulled out of Gaza the Palestinians received tons of money from Europe and where did it go? Parts of it went to school where they teach the little ones how to hate and kill Jews, the rest went for weapons.
In Europe people don't dare demonstrate in favor of Israel as the place is overcrowded with Muslims.

Re; Where did the Palestinian money go? Why do they teach little kids to hate Jews? I think they may have built a power plant, which the Israelis subsequently bombed and blew up. As far as teaching little kids to hate Jews, I believe they also teach little Jewish kids that they have the "god given" right to brutalize the Palestinians. To the Israelis - eventually you are going to have to give all people there equal rights so you ought to get busy and learn how to live together, vis a vis South Africa.

The Jews must learn to live with the Arabs, like their forefathers did since time immemorial. But alas, the Jews are the stubborn lots. They killed their Kings and prophets. They have to cause mischief on earth,or they won't be called Jews. May the LORD of the heaven and earth protect us all.

Jews can't fight men and win. Hezbollah, which is not even an "army" beat them.
Hamas isn't even an army.
JEWS KILL KIDS AND WOMEN.
Wake up world
