Closing Arguments: Swimming Pool Discrimination?
July 09, 2009 11:45 PM
A private swim club outside Philadelphia is under fire for denying 65 black and Hispanic campers from using the pool even though the camp had paid membership dues.
The club president initially told a local television station that some members at the predominantly white club were concerned the campers might "change the complexion" of the pool's atmosphere.
The choice of words angered camp staff -- and triggered widespread criticism, including a response from Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter.
The club today hit back, calling allegations of discrimination "completely untrue" and blaming the decision on overcrowding.
So tonight we ask you: Are they telling the truth? Are you convinced by their explanation?
Tell us what you think.
