As Toyota's World Turns

Two key updates to the Brian Ross Blotter investigation that ripped the doors off a major safety problem at Toyota and last week led to a suspension of sales on eight popular models made by the world’s biggest automaker.

First, Toyota announced its plans to fix the millions of cars recalled for potentially faulty gas pedals that may be causing runaway cars.

And then, embedded above, is an interview Brian conducted with Toyota U.S. president Jim Lentz outside a Manhattan office building.

Brian asked him directly about any cover-up of the runaway acceleration issues. Government documents show that the company first yielded reports of “runaway Toyotas” in March 2007.

Lentz first said the key right now is to get information to Toyota customers about the fix. Asked again about allegations of a cover-up, he said flatly, “There is no cover-up.”
