Meet Caron Tate - She's Got Great Advice on Women's Health
May 04, 2007 4:54 PM
My name is Caron Tate, I'm 5" 7" and 165 pounds. Years ago, I thought I was on my dream life path: I was a singer/actor/model who worked out all the time. I loved it. I loved swimming, weight training, dancing, aerobics and running. My diet was good and my health, generally speaking, was great.
Then all hell done broke loose. An arm twinge and occasional neck stiffness became constant, excruciating pain and a loss of control over my left arm. I watched it twitch and jump on its own like water on a hot skillet. I spent months sleeping for a few minutes at a time until the electric pain shocked me awake again. I was recovering from that when a car hit me.
I've learned from these and other life experiences; including depression, giving up performing, and losing my home; that true health is about so much more than extreme workouts and single-digit size clothing.
It is knowing that we are body and mind and spirit and that all three need to be nurtured. It's educating ourselves about how our bodies work and taking control of our own healthcare. It's learning to find balance and peace in our lives. But most of all, it's learning the healing properties of laughter and love and companionship. There is no better medicine. I hope my video will illustrate this philosophy.

I'm in a similar age group to you, Caron, and have just heard about this contest through Joel Sapp, who will marry my daughter this summer. I'm so pleased to hear from another "strong" woman who has survived difficulties, AND has a wonderful message to tell about striving for good health, something everyone can and should do.

Thanks for your story and determination to overcome your difficulties. I am a Red Hat sister in Florida and also have been going to a chiropractor and accupuncturist plus massage therapist for pain. Good luck.

Caron, I think that out of the 5 finalist, you are the one that is the most encouraging for others. You are the most unselfless one of the bunch. You spend your time helping others, instead of spending all your time in the gym. God Bless You.
